Mitt Romney to the Rescue?

An unlikely hero in all of this could be Mitt?

‘It is imperative’ that Mueller probe continue unimpeded, says Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney hasn’t even been sworn in as a senator, but he had strong words Wednesday over concerns that acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker would pull the plug on the Mueller investigation.

Along with that warning to Whitaker, the onetime Republican presidential candidate, who won a U.S. Senate seat in Utah on Tuesday, also thanked Jeff Sessions for his service in a tweet late Wednesday.

The ouster of Sessions, which also removes Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein from overseeing Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and potential collusion by the Trump campaign, caused alarm from many Democratic lawmakers, especially in the wake of an opinion column written by Whitaker last year, in which he called for limits to Mueller’s probe.

And Romney wasn’t the only Republican senator to share that concern.

“It is imperative that the Administration not impede the Mueller investigation,” Sen. Susan Collins of Maine tweeted Wednesday. “I’m concerned Rod Rosenstein will no longer be overseeing the probe. Special Counsel Mueller must be allowed to complete his work without interference—regardless of who is AG.”

Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, who is outgoing but still has his seat until the new Senate is sworn in on Jan. 3, called for the full Senate to pass a bill protecting Mueller’s investigation.

“Earlier this year, we passed S.2644, the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act, out of the Senate Judiciary Committee,” he tweeted. “The bill would safeguard Robert Mueller’s investigation. Leader McConnell should bring the bill to the Senate floor as soon as possible.”

This law would be struck down as unconstitutional.

Right.

Obstruction of justice isn't unconstitutional, but a law preventing the President from obstructing Justice is unconstitutional.

Take it up with the constitution, Kevin. Congress cannot legislatively create a fourth branch of government.

That's your concern here huh. Not the fact that Trump is obstructing justice. No concerns there whatsoever, right?

You don't get to pretend you care about the Constitution while supporting a man who has basically taken a dump on it from day one.

If Trump is obstructing justice then there are already laws in place to determine his guilt or innocence. Sorry that you are unable cherry-pick the Constitution until you get the polifical results you want. Much like how the elctoral college never bothered you until Hillary lost, your politics of convenience is proving to be a watered down fascism of your own design, simply because Trump tweets mean stuff.

Only because Trump is managing to stack the courts (including Supreme Court) with conservative corporate hacks of the most extreme sort, willing to overlook almost any anti-democratic act or policy he would like to perpetrate on anyone not part of wealthy, all powerful, authoritarian elite that he favors.

I'm glad to see that there is now at least one GOP elected official who recognizes how undesirable Trump is. It is still dismaying, though, how few Republicans realize or care how openly corrupt and pathologically dishonest and self-serving a monster Trump is.

I was glad to see most of the RINOs get voted out. I'll never forget how upset I was over the election of 2012. Now I thank God for unanswered prayers.
