Wanna see my ...

..scientific method ? - Neil deGrasse Tyson

Fox and National Geographic are investigating “Cosmos” host Neil deGrasse Tyson after three women accused the celebrity astrophysicist of sexual misconduct, including rape in one instance.

Tyson did not immediately respond to requests from TheWrap for comment Friday.

On Nov. 8, Patheos published an interview with Tchiya Amet, who says Tyson drugged and raped her in 1984 when they were both grad students. On Thursday, two more women came forward with accusations in Patheos: Dr. Katelyn N. Allers, an associate professor of physics and astronomy at Bucknell University who says she was “felt up” by Tyson at a party in 2009, and his former assistant Ashley Watson, who said she quit her job because of Tyson’s sexual advances.

“The credo at the heart of ‘Cosmos’ is to follow the evidence wherever it leads. The producers of ‘Cosmos’ can do no less in this situation.

Rape is a major crime suggesting a potential radical lack of respect for about half the human race. So a conviction for rape should certainly lead to a re-evaluation of someone's character.

Kavanagh again, I suppose. So here we go again ...

'Due process' is what you get in a criminal court, where you are entitled to be convicted only if there is evidence sufficient to persuade a jury beyond a reasonable doubt that you are guilty.

If however, you are being evaluated as a person suitable for appointment for life as a Justice of the Supreme Court, you ought to meet a higher standard - your character ought to be such that it is above reasonable suspicion. The mere fact of not being vulnerable to a successful criminal prosecution is far too low a bar for having such power conferred upon you. Bluntly, Kavanagh's character pretty clearly was not up to the standard required - as he demonstrated pretty clearly during the hearings, be it observed.

I don't agree with this. We as a society need to be able to both take accusations seriously and proceed towards determining justice without the accusation alone being treated as anything other than an accusation. Kavanaugh had flaws and displayed character traits such as a willingness to lie about his own conduct that on their own should have sent the President looking at alternatives. But when it comes to the Ford accusation the system did a fairly reasonable job in what should have been a target-rich corroborating witness environment and came up empty handed. There could be multiple other explanations for why that is other than his innocence but we can't claim to have a just society if we proceed beyond the bounds of justice.

Not according to the penal system...A rape conviction isn't a death sentence nor is it a life in prison sentence...meaning "the debt" is paid to society after the rapist serves the time....Florida will even let the rapist vote, as in "character evaluated".

So much for the tolerant liberal, you are as disgusting as any "judgmental" Republican you ever condemn.

Your comment was in the context of someone being found to be a rapist and society not letting that slide because they happen to do a good job explaining complex ideas in astrophysics to a general population. Your post above did a little space-time jump into the future where said rapist is now understood to have made reparation and is attempting to rebuild their life. That's not the same thing at all. Nor is it to say NDGT is guilty, but your comment began with the assumption rape was confirmed in order for someone to be a rapist and not just an accused rapist. Now, had you made a modification to your statement along those lines I would probably have sided with you. But I doubt a more nuanced statement on your part would have generated the same reply (or any reply) from Chap.

No, my comment was the context of NdgT having his professional work dismissed because he is a rapist which is in line with the Democrat/Lib witch hunt methodology when the accused is white, Republican, southern, or wealthy.

As a reference see Alex Baldwin on SNL in wake of being charged.

That's the same thing, except you don't seem to get that the historic problem is most industries have a bad record when it comes to holding rapists accountable for, well, rape when they are otherwise outstanding members in their fields.

Only one accusation is serious, but the other two accusations are _______ . Tyson shouldn't lose his job for giving an award handshake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHaxUeNUmsk

In our era if you are bad at flirting you are done! You are nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if suicide rates go up again.

I agree, like the investigation of an award handshake.
