Trump's Outrageous, Demonstrably False Claims About McCain

Post by _Gunnar »

Ana Navarro, herself a conservative Republican, clearly pointed out pathologically outrageous lies that Trump claimed about John McCain that are so clearly false that it is amazing to me that even Trump had enough gall and stupidity to think he could get away with them. What particularly galls me is this:
Navarro, who worked on John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign, said the president's claim that he had to "approve" the senator's funeral "is a flat out lie" and his claim that John McCain had not done enough for veterans was a "pathological" lie.

"John McCain and Bernie Sanders passed the Choice and Accountability Act in 2014. It was signed by Barack Obama while you were calling into question his citizenship," she said, adding the law was passed by "veterans who served while you were pretending you had bone spurs."

"Why are so many Republicans silent about this too? Why are these cowards siding with a draft dodger over a war hero?" she asked before giving the floor to McCain's daughter, fellow panelist Meghan McCain.

"I don't like coming out here every day and having to do this," McCain said. "It's extremely emotionally exhausting."

"He also said that John McCain had not done anything for veterans, that John McCain had -- you know, that they had failed in getting choice and accountability for many decades. Lie. you pathological president, liar, liar, liar."

"John McCain and Bernie Sanders passed the Choice and Accountability Act in 2014. It was signed by Barack Obama while you were calling into question his citizenship. And it was John McCain who got the expansion of that act, in his dying days, he got the expansion of that act, and it is called... the John S. McCain III, Daniel Akaka, and Samuel Johnson VA Maintaining Act -- three veterans who served while you were pretending you had bone spurs."

Trump even claimed credit for the very benefits to veterans resulting from this act, despite the fact that it has John McCain's name on it, and it was passed and signed into law by Obama before Trump even ran for President! Do any of you Trump supporters have the audacity to deny that this is unequivocal proof that Trump is a pathological liar?
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Gunnar I watched that episode of The View on youtube the day it was aired. Ana Navarro ripped into Trump and delivered the message with a passion that could only be described as seething anger and contempt. I've also followed Meghan McCain's tweets about this using online searches. Navarro did what Meghan McCain should have never been placed in a position to do; respond to Trump's LIES. Navarro put it right out there and held exactly nothing back!

Trump's lies and attacks on John McCain are near unbearable. In another episode or tweet, his daughter pointed out how his family DID thank Trump for his support for the funeral.

Perhaps the one best gesture he made that day was staying away from the funeral as was the family's preference. I hope you watched Meghan's powerful eulogy!

People were asking how Trump could attack a deceased man who isn't around to speak for himself. My answer: Because he isn't around to speak himself!

Trump is a liar, a coward, a bully, he is entirely classless, and so far as I am concerned, he is a heinous bastard. They say that inside of a bully therein beats the heart of a coward. How cowardly does it get when a man launches continuous attacks on a dead man who cannot respond?

The View is the only show I watch on a regular basis and I never watch it on TV because I despise commercial television. Abby Huntsman, Meghan McCain and Ana Navarro are the three Republican's on the panel. Navarro co-hosts intermittently. I think she'll be taking over when Huntsman goes on maternity leave, so we'll be hearing more of her on the show. It's interesting that all three get into strong disagreements not only with their Democrat co-hosts but with each other. There have been shouting matches. One thing the entire panel shares is a strong critical position on Trump. Meghan McCain has gone so far as to distance herself as a member of Republican party, now regularly referring to herself as a Conservative.

She recently stated that if her father could see what is going on now, he would be delighted that he was making front page news in death. In his own way, John McCain responded to Trump on The View not so long before he died. They asked him if he was afraid of Trump. The man laughed himself silly!

But think about how cruel this has been for the McCain family who are grieving.

Ana Navarro adds just the right touch to the show. She has gone nose to nose with McCain over immigration, and in this case, she demonstrated a clear sense of right vs. wrong and cut Trump to pieces in full public view which is what he deserved!

We have got a hell beast in the White House. This was a sickening heart-depressing display on his part. Thank you for posting about it!

Here's another one. This is Khizr Khan on The View, ripping into Trump for his remarks about John McCain. He, too, doesn't mince words.

Jersey Girl, the most sickening and dismaying part of this whole mess is that many of Trump's hard core base don't even care that he is a known pathological liar, or even a criminal, and have even unabashedly and unapologetically admitted as much in some cases. I find this frightening! It bodes ill for our children and grandchildren in years to come. It also sickens me that many fundamentalist and evangelical Christians seem content or even delighted with this state of affairs because they think it presages the second coming of Christ that they are eagerly looking forward to.

p.s. thanks for posting the video about Khizr Khan.

With regard to EV Christians. I recall about 2 years ago, checking in on a Facebook page. My childhood pastor's daughter married a pastor herself and so I sometimes look in for photos of her on her husband's page. In all my years of church attendance, I cannot recall a single time when a pastor in my life, except for possibly praying for God's leading and protection for the current President, mentioned politics. Ever.

On this Facebook page, was post after post supporting Trump! Seems to me that a preacher who now holds a major position at a prominent Christian University has forgotten what his Bible teaches and in my eyes, this represents a serious violation. But I am old school in that regard.

It's depressing how so many Christians have been duped by Trump and how easily they've set aside what they've been taught. It's very sad and frightening.

I suppose that if I were to look hard for some indication of Trump in the New Testament, I could come up with some evidence. But, he wouldn't exactly be on the Lord's side.

Not even close.

The fact that Trump is an asshole and a moron is a feature for his base, not a bug. Otherwise, they aren't paying attention.

A big amen to that!

Apparently so. That is the scariest and most depressing part of Trumpism.

I've been listening to Pete Buttigieg interviews lately. For those not aware, he is the mayor of South Bend, Indiana and a 2020 Democrat candidate (or maybe he's still in the exploratory phase... but anyway). I like him, and I think he could emerge as a serious contender. But anyway...

He likes to talk about how many of his constituents voted for Trump to "burn the house down" because they felt left behind economically. What I find sad about this idea is that it clearly misplaces the blame for people's perceived troubles. It exacerbates the situation they don't like.

I find it almost impossible to feel sympathy for these people, primarily because their ignorance affects everyone; we are all at the mercy of the lowest common denominator. If they can't be bothered to do the work of finding out what's really happening, they bring their troubles on themselves. They are hostile to the very education that could save them.

Fox News opinion shows and right-wing media are not a substitute for an education. They are antithetical to learning facts.

Aside from flashes of integrity and intelligence from people like Shep Smith and Chris Wallace, that is seemingly becoming increasingly apparent. Yet, the Fox network was one of the first networks to run Neil DeGrasse Tyson's brilliant update of Sagan's Cosmos series. Have you seen that? It was on Netflix for quite a long while. It is still on YouTube
