medotorg,

In my view and it is a view I feel confident in, there is only one Dylan song which somebody else performed better than Bob. Hendrix nailed All Along the Watchtower.
A possible second would be Joan Baez singing Farewell Angelina. It is possible that the song was written for her to sing as Bob did not release a version officially. There is a bootleg version of Bob singing the song however.

Let's not forget that this song was composed by Phil Everly. Who can forget the perfection that was the harmony of the Everly Brothers? This song was born out of the Rockabilly cross over style from which Rock sprang forth. And the lineage goes something like this,

And Gospel/Spirituals begat the Blues and the Blues begat Rockabilly and Rockabilly begat Rock n' Roll. And it Rock n' Roll had a good beat and was easy to dance to, I'll give it an 85, Dick". And it was good.

To be fair, the Everly Brothers birthed this song but when Ronstadt got hold of it, she lit it up like a Christmas tree and all others that followed are basically imitations of Rondstadt.

McCartney is no Mozart. He doesn't have the depth of voice needed to pull off the song. There's no "gut" in his voice. So there.

For Schmo: Why McCartney sucks at it.

McCartney doesn't have a blues voice. No gut. No grit.

Blues voices:

Elvis Presley - Lawdy Miss Clawdy ('68 Comeback Special 50th Anniversary HD Remaster)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALHWkx7J_lA

Roger Daltrey and James Burton (guitar): Lawdy Miss Clawdy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R-z1KeKlwE

Now watch McCartney entirely blow the same song:

Paul McCartney Lawdy Miss Clawdy - 1987 Hi-Fi!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0gH-2EyYiw

Case made. McCartney couldn't wail or belt out a song with grit if his life depended on it. McCartney sucks at it. He has no soul.

You've made no case. All you're doing is pissing at one of the greatest song writers of the last century.

Elvis and The Who... please. You're embarrassing yourself.

I bear my testimony that this is true. Selah.
