I have questions. I've never done a bow drill before but I get how it works.

1. Why did you use an Aspen spindle? I thought Aspen was a hardwood and you said softwood generates heat or friction faster? Was that because your pine spindle got warped?

2. Is that your shop where you used your scroll saw? (I'm being nosy there).

3. Why didn't the ember set the floor on fire? I can't tell if the floor is made of wood or like concrete.

4. I know the board to be called a fire board. Can it also be called a hearth wood? I guess so since it's the foundation for the fire or something?

That must be a very empowering experience especially the first time! Awesome instructional! Please answer my questions as you have time.

It makes me nervous that all of these survival skill videos are being made so close to the election.

Could the opposite also be true?

This election makes people so nervous that they're practicing survival skills...you know, just in case?

Yes, I meant to pick up my other pine spindle and got the quakie instead......
2. Is that your shop where you used your scroll saw? (I'm being nosy there).
Not a bit, you are perfectly fine girl.... yes that is the shop
3. Why didn't the ember set the floor on fire? I can't tell if the floor is made of wood or like concrete.
It's not big enough nor hot enough to...
4. I know the board to be called a fire board. Can it also be called a hearth wood? I guess so since it's the foundation for the fire or something?
I have heard it both ways. Perhaps personal preference?

video was helpful inasmuch as i needed to survive a 45 minute video. Thought i was watching Scorsese's The Irishman.

Yes I really enjoyed this one Philo Sofee! I am very envious of your shop. I would love to have a shop like that where I could go hack around and live out the idea I have in my head to flip furniture for a little side gig. Been wanting to do that for a long time now. I just worked on 4 pieces for our home...they really won't be done-done until Spring when the weather breaks again but they're good enough for now and I always enjoy doing that. Bringing an old piece of wood furniture back to life--painting, staining or whatever-- is good for my head.

Good thing I have plans and supplies for indoor projects to do because I'm thinking that once winter really hits I'm pretty much going in this direction.
