Trump in Evangelical Pantheon

Post by Moksha »

Was watching a video of how some Evangelical leaders and their followers now include Trump in their religious pantheon. I imagine this is also true for some LDS people on an individual basis. Not sure if there is a scientific term for this level of non-discernment, but it seems very worrisome that people would incorporate Trump into their religious beliefs. Much better to go with a white salamander.

It's been a long time since I respected the religious mindset (if ever), but this takes my disdain to a whole new level. There is no argument to save these people from the charge that they have the reasoning of a worm.

If Trump is worth worshipping, then anything is, which means nothing is.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.

Don't these people read the Bible? I may be an atheist, but I do have a lot of the Old and New Testaments in my head, such as:

Psalm 146:
3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
Luke 17:
20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

22 And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.

23 And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.

24 For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.
I think that comfortably rules out our Donald.

That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.
