Michael Flynn: We should be a nation of One Religion
(CNN)Former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn's call for "one religion" in the US to win the battle of good versus evil has garnered sharp backlash from a range of critics.
Flynn, who was subpoenaed last week by the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack, made the comment during a speech to a conservative Christian audience on the ReAwaken America tour in Texas this weekend. "If we are going to have one nation under God, which we must, we have to have one religion," he said. "One nation under God and one religion under God, right? All of us, working together."
Christianity, thy name is patriotism.

What a looney.
"I have learned with what evils tyranny infects a state. For it frustrates all the virtues, robs freedom of its lofty mood, and opens a school of fawning and terror, inasmuch as it leaves matters not to the wisdom of the laws, but to the angry whim of those who are in authority.”

We should be a nation of NONE religion, but that will never happen. Too many damned freaks live in the US.
Why can't people keep their idiotic religions to themselves? If they did, religion wouldn't bother me one bit. There has to be a direct relationship between how much a person talks about their religion and how much of a douche bag they are. The best religious people are the ones you have no idea are religious.
Religions are like referees. The ones you never notice are the best ones.

Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

I like that perspective, Schmo. Going around blabbing about one’s religion is annoying as hell. Honestly, so is partisan politics. I would prefer we stop being free advertisements for this or that ideology or faith. It would be nice if people could just be polite and decorous in the public square. The less I have to have someone’s personal life and choices thrown in my face, the better. Keep it to yourself should be the order of the day.

I think there is a fundamental lack of understanding about what it means to live in a pluralistic democracy. It's hard getting people with so many different perspectives to row together. It would be a lot easier if everyone thought the same thing. That would be the simple, pure narrative.
Lately I've been thinking that what America needs is a 21st Century Norman Rockwell, sort of an American propagandist. There's a painting about Freedom of Speech that I love,

The first thing our modern eye notices is that all the people are white men. But look deeper. The speaker is clearly working class, he is also slightly younger than most of the other men. But you can see in his eyes the conviction that what he has to say is worthwhile, and the other men are accepting and listening.
We have stopped believing in our mythos, in the possibility that in the act of coming together we form something greater than a nation of individuals with no common purpose or interest. People like Michael Flynn see the way forward is to look backward, to the way things were. That ain't the way history works. You can't start from where we were. You have to start from where we are. And the reality is that belief in theistic axial age religions has been dropping in the Western World. You can have revivals and reformations, but generally it has been trending down. We have to look into our specific theistic beliefs and find the human principles that can help govern our relationships.
The reality of our country can be profane, but that doesn't mean we lose hope for a more perfect union.

And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Re: Michael Flynn: We should be a nation of One Religion
I just looked it up. Michael Flynn is an Irish Catholic. My ancestors were protestants until they converted to the LDS church. But that's meaningless in the world today. There are only believers and nonbelievers."If we are going to have one nation under God, which we must, we have to have one religion," he said. "One nation under God and one religion under God, right? All of us, working together."
I would love to serve the general Flynn and have the opportunity to break away and build a faith based country some day.

Instinct, common sense and reason all play a part.
Alternately, you can tell me how it is that many ordinary animals decide to care for their offspring. Maybe explain when Jesus instructed them on the concept of family and the Commandments.
More to the point of the OP, though, i think that a fair number of believers in Judaism are thinking, “… here we go, again …”
