Twitter permanently suspends Marjorie Taylor Greene's personal account - Greene's, R-Ga., account was suspended over "repeated violations" of Twitter's Covid-19 misinformation policy, the company said.
Another Qtard conspiracy theorist bites the dust. But I’m not here to discuss the clickbait. Has anyone watched Netflix’s ‘Don’t Look Up’?
There were so many places to take things from, because there's so many preposterous people who've put themselves in public places recently, and shamelessly so. It was kind of fun to put together this character that was in just pure id, just what her appetite wanted. And about amassing power, money, more power, and more money, and nice hair and nails, you know?
I couldn’t help but draw parallels between Streep’s character and Marjorie Taylor-Greene. For example Greene gave an interview where she makes a claim and then immediately, and without a hint of irony, contradicts herself:
While bashing the news media, Ms Greene specifically claimed that hospitals were not facing a steep rise in Covid patients that threatened to overwhelm their facilities, a trend that has made headlines in recent weeks and an assertion that is easily proven false by the real-life situation on the ground in Florida, where more and more hospitals are being forced to cancel elective surgeries as their facilities reach capacity.
"So while the news tries to tell us the hospitals are slam-packed with COVID, that's just not the case," she said. "Everybody needs to get back down to common sense and remember that, you know, we're human, we can't live forever, we're going to catch all kinds of diseases and illnesses and other viruses, and we get hurt sometimes."
…
Bizarrely, just seconds earlier in the same interview, Ms Greene claimed correctly that Covid-19 was “raging across the country”; it remains unclear what she meant by that, if she does not believe the disease is causing alarming numbers of hospitalizations.
Anyway. If you get a couple of hours, I recommend watching the movie. It’s either existentially terrifying given the behavior of the Right over the last six years, or extremely offensive if you’re a damned moron.

Netflix. I have Netflix!!
Apparently I can't read an OP to save my life.
Do you see that though? MY good self esteem allows me to leave my mistakes up in front of God and everybody and own up to them. Ain't nothing wrong with the Jersey Girl.

I watched it last week during some time off from work. It was...well. I didn't like it as a movie. The concept was kinda funny but the execution was a miss, in my opinion.
ETA: To expand on this, it struck me as falling into a satirically shallow pit where the laughs were expected rather than earned from being clever. It had that Fox News humor vibe where the joke is essentially that the audience knows who we are supposed to be mocking but that's the entire joke. Only, it was a movie. A "Kick Me" sign with a 2 hour and 25 minute run time, if you will. In comedy, the rule is that the longer a set up takes the bigger the payoff has to be to feel earned. That works against movies like this where the premise is easy to get but the run time is all set-up for that premise with no actual insightful punchlines to relieve the time the viewer is investing. Purely as a movie, it wasn't shot interestingly, the production was meh, and the cut scenes were messy. The acting was generally good, but the material never felt elevated by anyone with the exception of Cate Blancett. She made something of her part that transcended what she was given.
It did get a couple of laughs out of me. The best one being at the very end when the Steve Jobs/Musk/Bezos/Zuckerberg character had his final quip. But for the most part I found it got tedious very quickly.

I watched it the day it came out. I thought it was a serious movie about an asteroid on a path to hit earth. But about 15 minutes into it, I knew this had to be some kind of parody of American stupidity. My favorite part was the news segment from "Patriot News" reporting on some meaningless story as we all learned humanity had about an hour before it was wiped out.

I'd caught something on CNN about it and so I put off watching it. Thought it would bad liberal humor. I ended up watching it on new years eve because my smart TV was failing to load Amazon Prime where I'd continue either with Hanna season 3 or The Expanse. I gave up troubleshooting and went to 'flix, and since it was still #1 I figured I'd give it a shot. Glad I did, I thought it was funny as hell. It might be misguided and divisive but whatever. It did get 77% from audience on Rotten Tomatoes. Good liberals should pan it and anyone voting for Trump should pan it on premise alone, so how it got to 77% is interesting.
The only part that was totally unrealistic was near the end, where the "Don't look up'ers" look up and see the asteroid, and then revolt. No way. No amount of evidence, not a literal asteroid in the sky, is going to convince Ajax, subs, or Cultellus of anything. The only way they'll reject their leadership is if the leaders accept the truth.

Don't Look Up should have been called An Inconvenient Truth.

The US could be under a right-wing dictatorship by 2030, a Canadian political science professor has warned, urging his country to protect itself against the “collapse of American democracy”.
“We mustn’t dismiss these possibilities just because they seem ludicrous or too horrible to imagine,” Thomas Homer-Dixon, founding director of the Cascade Institute at Royal Roads University in British Columbia, wrote in the Globe and Mail.
“In 2014, the suggestion that Donald Trump would become president would also have struck nearly everyone as absurd. But today we live in a world where the absurd regularly becomes real and the horrible commonplace.”
Homer-Dixon’s message was blunt: “By 2025, American democracy could collapse, causing extreme domestic political instability, including widespread civil violence. By 2030, if not sooner, the country could be governed by a rightwing dictatorship.”

It was actually a comet, not an asteroid. :-)
