One year ago, I started a thread with this title so I could chronicle the sad saga of certain Congresscritters who had announced plans to challenge the votes cast by certain states. Little did I know how close we had come to the execution of a plan by government insiders to keep the election's loser in office for another term. And I had no idea that American citizens would forcibly storm the Capitol for the purpose of coercing and intimidating Congress to reject the results of a free and fair presidential election.

What was it Franklin said? A Republic, if you can keep it. I'd like to keep it, but there are millions of so-called Americans who beg to differ. I guess we'll see.

The Republican message today was that this insurrection did not happen. They will maintain this position until they are ready to launch their civil war. If the Republican party had any virtue, there would have been a widescale outcry at this treason and insurrection. The silence signaled that all the supposed "love of the Constitution" talk had been a sham, and it was instead a group of people waiting to embrace the conversion of our democracy into a fascist regime.
