Biden Stands by CDC Mask Mandates Even as Democrat Governors Revolt

President Joe Biden continues standing by the mask mandates advised by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), even as Democrat governors announce their decisions to lift them.

News broke that New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker will announce their decisions to lift mask mandates in their states after a flood of other Democrat governors led the way forward.

Earlier this week, Democrat governors, including New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, Delaware Gov. John Carney, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, announced their decisions to lift mask mandates in their states.

The sudden turnaround shows that even Democrats realize voters are ready to move beyond masking mandates, especially for children in school.

The White House on Tuesday signaled they would not be lifting mask mandates, indicating that instead Biden would follow the advice of the CDC.

“The CDC moves at the pace of data and science,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said during the daily press briefing.

But the White House did not condemn Democrats for bailing on the mask mandates and the “science” behind the CDC mandates, despite repeated condemnations of Republican governors who lifted mandates months ago.

“We don’t look at it through that prism,” Psaki said, when asked if the White House was concerned Democrats were “throwing the science away” by lifting the mandates.

“[O]ur hope is that states, leaders will look at the science and data about what’s going on, they’ll make decisions about local school districts,” Psaki continued.

On social media on Tuesday evening, the White House promoted Biden’s usual plea for Americans to wear masks.


But the tide is turning after widespread protests of coronavirus restrictions and vaccine mandates erupted in Canada.

The White House on Wednesday suddenly scheduled a coronavirus press briefing after the flood of Democrat governors lifted mandates.

The president, unpopular as ever, may shift quickly as Democrats face a perilous political future in the upcoming midterm elections.

Biden also has to calculate the tone of his State of the Union Address scheduled for March 1.

So what has changed about COVID science such that the party of science is about to pivot on the COVID issue? The data has been the same for up to a year. The only thing that has changed are the opinions of the Democrat voter base. I can't even imagine how bad the internal polling must be for these Democrat governors who are now pivoting on their masking and social distancing mandates to force this to happen.

In any event, we are seeing rapidly declining infection rates here. At some point, there will be little need for masks regardless of whatever you believe about their effectiveness.

We knew omicron was little more than a common cold but 100 times more infectious than Delta before it ever even got to the US. Case rates haven't mattered for a long time. We already knew this. The data hasn't changed since the beginning of Omicron.

Just watch. Biden is going to stand up and take credit for shutting down Covid in his state of the Union address just a moment after complaining that the rejection of his vaccine mandate was going to make the virus last forever. Just as he complained that Joe Manchin stopping Build Back Better would hurt the economy, he'll simultaneously take credit for economic progress in January, 2022. The truth is America only wins when Joe Biden loses.

Why are all these mandates getting lifted?

Based on the Omicron experience in S. Africa, Fauci and others predicted back in December that once it came to America we'd see a similar surge followed by an immediate recession of the spread. Lo and Behold, they were right. Omicron peaked mid January and daily infections have been plummeting ever since.

“As we get out of the full-blown pandemic phase of COVID-19,” Fauci said to the Times. “Which we are certainly heading out of, these decisions will increasingly be made on a local level rather than centrally decided or mandated. There will also be more people making their own decisions on how they want to deal with the virus.”

Fauci said that he hopes all COVID-19 restrictions will be halted in the coming months as well, citing mandatory mask-wearing as one of the restrictions he expects to end. He agreed that restrictions might end in 2022.

Ajax has his head so deep in right wing mantra but if he knew what the rest of us knew he'd know that this really isn't surprising news, and that these blue states are not "REVOLTING" against anything.
