Because it's contrived commercialized BS intended to make consumers buy overpriced cards, flowers, candies, stuffed animals, jewelry, all manner of stuff, and meals in restaurants promoted as Valentine's Day dinners.

It robs love of it's deeper meaning and I freaking hate it.

I made them today. The waffle iron works as good as my big one and the basic recipe was SO darn good!! Use pure maple syrup if you ever make them. It's super good.
