FIXIT HELP REQUEST

Post by Kishkumen »

Hey, guys:

OK. I have a completely different kind of issue. It isn't politics. It isn't religion. It is my kitchen cabinets.

I hate the hinges on my kitchen cabinets. They are always popping out, and I am extremely sick of it.

Here is a picture of the offending hinge, a Blum 110:

What I want to do is to replace it with something that does not pop out all the time.

Honestly, it looks more like a Blum 33 to me, but the brand and number clearly say Blum 110.
"I have learned with what evils tyranny infects a state. For it frustrates all the virtues, robs freedom of its lofty mood, and opens a school of fawning and terror, inasmuch as it leaves matters not to the wisdom of the laws, but to the angry whim of those who are in authority.”

What do you mean by pop out, what’s popping out. That hinge looks securely fastened on both sides, are you talking about the adjustment screw?

Yes, I think so. When I tighten the screw, the little clamp holds the thing together, but it regularly loosens and the clamp pops off the cabinet. It is really, really frustrating. I have found replacements, but the next thing I need to do is measure the cabinet overlay, evidently, which is something I am not sure about.

Thanks!

That hinge has a 1/2” overlay. Just take a picture of it and go to Lowe’s, I think they have that exact hinge, it’s very common.

If you want to fix it with out buying a new hinge and like you said your problem is the adjustment screw, just hot glued the two pieces together. Even better you could Epoxy the two pieces together. And if you end up replacing the hinge, be very careful, those cabinets look like they are made with a HDF and if you strip them you’ll have a lot bigger problem.

No problem there; I’ve got the ‘field-tested’ solution for that one, when Kish needs it. : )

Thanks for the help, AM. It is nice to talk to you about something other than politics.
