Or perhaps women are prettier when they are 18-29 and men have more attractive wallets when they're 30-49. It's pretty simple.

So men with low status in the U.S. still have relatively high status compared to a lot of the world.

Back in the 1960's I was offered $500 to marry a British woman who wanted American citizenship. $500 was a lot of money back then, so I guess I would have been a mail order husband.
