Watercolor prints (sale)

Post by Jersey Girl »

Hello Folks,

So, I collect watercolor prints. I've got some originals by a local artist that started my collection years ago. Each year, I pick up a few more in print form, but usually smaller than those first large framed originals. They're all so beautiful that I can't help myself or I don't help myself is more to the point. Except for my New Jersey lighthouse collection, they're all nature related (surprising, I know) and usually Colorado scenes by local artists. I picked up some small prints from an artist in my art association this fall--Black Capped Chickadee and a winter stand of Aspens in snow. To. die. for.

I also have framed children's art on display because I consider those to be one-of-a-kind original works of art. I value them and the artists who created them.

I've tried watercolor painting and while my paintings aren't horrible (and yes I framed them) I just don't have "it" whatever "it" is. I'll be painting again this winter and keep trying. It's relaxing to paint on a cold winter's day.

Anyway, I just purchased from a website that I thought you guys might find of interest for gift giving if you have a watercolor lover in your sphere or if you are yourself. They're having a 50% off sale. I don't know when the sale expires. Now, some of these are very abstract and impressionistic where my others are more realistic. Actually they are giclee but it's all the same to me. I found one I liked and ordered. Of course, I did. 8-) You can purchase in digital download and print at home or at a print shop. I bought a print.

Here's the link: https://collectionprints.com/

Here's the print I chose: https://collectionprints.com/collection ... d-winter-1

I've never ordered from here before so I can't guarantee anything. Just passing this on in case you are interested.

Thanks for sharing, Jersey Girl! I like the one you chose. Looking at it gave me some inspiration to paint. I know a few watercolor purists who hate the use of mask but I'm all for it.

Oh I can't believe someone actually replied and liked it! That one print is nice, right? Very fitting for where I live. I'm pretty much a mixed bag of things I love like the Stones, art, and certain kinds of literature I appreciate. ;) There's a studio that has classes here but it's downtown and at night. I don't go downtown and I won't go there at night, so that's out. Meanwhile I try as best I can and muck about with it. You are blessed to know how to paint!

I don't like surrealism, cubism, that sort of thing. Not fond of oils, but when I visited MOMA in Manhattan and laid actual eyes on Monet and Van Gogh I just stood there and cried. Monet's impressionism has always been my favorite and to see the brush strokes...I can't even describe it. Stand close, it looks like nothing. Stand back and it looks like everything.

So glad you liked looking and feel inspired to paint! I envy your talent so much.

The Winter Path scene reminds me of Spokane, where I grew up. Thanks for sharing.

Painting can be fun. I have an ‘art wall’ in my yard, which is nothing but some plywood I screwed onto my deck, but it faces my yarden*. Last year I painted a sort of Smokey Mountains scene on it; it looked like this:

and then I painted over it with flowers that looked kind of like this:

I think next Spring I’ll probably change the poppies to sunflowers. So, yeah, it’s fun to tap into a little bit of creativity.

* the yarden we went hard on. Our intent is to make it into a Piet Oudalf creation. Something like this:

Doc Cam, I had to look up Piet Oudolf. The result was well worth the time and effort. Thank you.

edit: And thank you for starting this thread, Jersey. Though watercolor landscapes aren't usually my cup of tea, these are beautiful.

Cool, thanks. I was in Chicago in 2015 for a thing and was at the Lurie Garden:

https://www.luriegarden.org/

where I was first exposed to the idea of a perennial garden, and it so happened Piet Ouldof was its designer or architect, I’m not totally sure, but that’s where I came to know his name. I took inspiration from him and put into my yard in SLC, where I lived from 2015-2021:

The backyard had a lot of fun features like a pollinator and veg garden, ponytail grasses, hundreds of Spring bulbs that’d pop out of the ground:

^ that was the first season after we planted them the Fall prior. They ended up blanketing the open area where we had them; it was really something to see. We sold our place in SLC and moved to the boonies to be closer to the mou’ains, and we’re in the process of doing a similar thing here. We literally planted about 5,000 bulbs so we’re excited to see what happens.

You all may be interested in looking into a screening of Five Seasons if you are into Piet Oudolf. He also provided garden design on the High Line Park in New York. That's the work of his with which I'm most familiar where he worked with the site design team to provide the garden design. I don't know but would guess The Lurie Garden was similar.

Looked it up and yep, GGN out of Seattle was the LA firm on the Lurie.

I damned love the Highline. I followed it from concept to buildout. My daughter and her fiance went to NY for a wedding, and I insisted they walk it. It’s such a marvelous concept; I love linear parks and urban green belts (there’s one in Atlanta that’s bananas).

Cam I really enjoyed seeing the examples of your garden art and what you all have done to your property and house! Was that a Victorian style mail box in the before photo? Your place gives me cottage vibes and I love it. There's a method of bulb planting called lasagna layering. Maybe you did that but if not, you can find it somewhere on Garden Answers on youtube. It's basically succession planting with bulbs.

The flowers in front are to die for! Do you have them on a drip system or what? I can have exactly nothing like that where I live and it's so beautiful! Reminds me of gardens in Jersey that are so effortless to grow there.

I dunno, maybe I will take a pic and post it of my watercolor trials. I feel a bit self conscious about it because they aren't near as nice as you and honor can do. Seriously look like a child did them which is pretty much were it's at for me. Will think about it...I mean you guys don't know me so it's not like you're going to come graffiti the house with "stupid wannabe artist lives here".

I almost bought that Winter Path art because it looks so much like our Ponderosas. I opted for the first on account of the stream and the cabin tucked back behind the trees. That's kind of what it feels like here when it snows.

I just got an idea for a new thread. When I get the mental energy to post it I will.
