Neil Gaiman is a great writer. His American Gods and Sandman tv series have been inconsistent, but here are some interesting clips.

From American Gods. The African god, Anansi hears the cries and prayers of African slaves in a slave ship heading to America in 1697. Anansi appears and delivers a very powerful speech about what awaits them once they reach the shores. While you are watching, keep in mind time is fluid for gods and the past/present are the same (that explains the god Anansi's clothes and his modern references):

This is a much abbreviated clip from The Sandman, episode 6 The Sound of Her Wings. The Sandman grants a man immortality in 1389 as long as the man agrees to meet him every 100 years to tell him about his life during that time. If you can, watch the full episode 6. It's brilliant.

I thought the Sandman TV series was some phenomenal storytelling.

I really liked the American Gods novel, but the first season of the series was just okay. I haven't watched any more of it yet.

I agree. Many years ago the Sandman was my introduction to Neil Gaiman and the first comic series I really got into. There's the local and semi personal connection. The inspiration behind the human form Death in the comics (Cinnamon Hadley) was a part of the SLC goth scene and was a friend to older friends and family of mine. The Endless can take many forms, so it doesn't matter if the actress looked different from Cinnamon. What matters is that she matched the personality of the character in the comic, and she did.

I read American Gods after I finished the Sandman. I love reading mythology and reading things about mythology, like Joseph Campbell, Herman Hesse, or even CS Lewis' Til We Have Faces. The streaming series didn't hold my interest.
