My greetings to my fellow heathens and best wishes for a fun-filled and safe Fourth of July weekend; I can't wait to get started! Over the past few months, I have found that reading the board and following many of the conversations that are taking place here has brought me a great deal of enjoyment. Since I abruptly left God's one true church around 30 years ago, I've been attempting to get a sense of where Mormonism stands in modern times. My son is about to wed into the Mormon royal family in our region, and I'm a little anxious about interacting with my future daughter-in-law's parents, so I'm studying and brushing up on my Mormon jargon in preparation for the big day! Do you have any advice for me regarding the appropriate or inappropriate things that I should say when interacting with the Royals? Should I have an open bar at the rehearsal dinner, or is it venturing into the region of serious sins?

It would appear that individuals are posting on the message board much less frequently as of late; are there particular periods of the year when people are more likely to refrain from commenting?

Take the following with a grain of salt as I am a never-Mormon and you may be interested in advice from people with Mormon experiences.

My advice: Be warm and kind - You are but one guest of many - Don't be fake - Perhaps most importantly, there are many things that might change over time (including your son's religious beliefs) but the one thing that will never change is that you are your son's dad. Enjoy the day dad. Congrats!

Johny, Ceeboo can be a sensible fellow. He has a point. For heavens sake don't try to sound more Mormon than you are. Be honest . I can't imagine any reason you should explain your position on the church to folks. Ask your son about the open bar. It is probably a terrible idea.

Just be cordial. It will help the newlyweds to maintain good relations with the In-Laws. Don't say anything bad about their Authorities and be polite when declining any invitations to join any multi-level marketing opportunities.

Ixnay with the open bar idea. Mormons like red and green Kool-Aid. Green might be best so no one has to worry about it being mistaken for red wine.

Is it the Bednars? If so, don't get up at the wedding dinner until after Elder Bednar gets up.
