Ajax, exactly when was this magical time when Democrats held a majority of the house, a 2/3 majority in the senate, and the presidency all at the same time?
Jan 2021-to 2022. 2008-2010. They passed Obamacare and the Inflation production act. Yet there was no discernible plan to pay for any of it just as Biden's current economic plan shows no realistic way to pay for his massive vote purchasing legislation. Perhaps that is the real economic plan, not to tax the Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerbergs, or Warren Buffets of the world, but rather to pay for these boondoggles by inflating the currency. And who has paid the price of that? The rich aren't the ones having to work longer hours just to buy gasoline and groceries in this economy. This is ingenius politics promising people a better life and getting them to vote for it while you inflate the currency and drive up the debt. If anyone complains about it, just blame it on corporate greed and you'll never lose a vote over it.
So, when you say:
Democrats have been in power for 12 of the last 16 years.
What you really mean is, in the last 16 years, D’s have had the opportunity to enact exactly two bills in favor of their economic agenda: the ACA and the IRA. One allowed millions of Americans to access healthcare who could not afford it before. The other invested in infrastructure, jobs, and people — the kinds things that Rs have claimed for decades would happen if we just gave the rich more and more money. The trickle down economics that Reagan made popular has never come close to working as advertised, as the rich spend their massive tax cuts on buying other companies and stock buy backs.

Two opportunities in 16 years. And why? Because Mitch vowed to filibuster any bill that had the appearance of giving D’s a win. Even when D’s proposed legislation that R’s had advocated, R’s turned 180 degrees and filibustered it.

by the way, you’re flat-ass wrong in your claim that D’s had a 2/3 majority in the Senate at the time those two bills were enacted. Please explain how those two bills were able to be passed and what the R’s did with their most recent opportunity to do the same thing?

Maybe there's a new kind of MAGA math that overtook Common Core. How exactly does 50 Republicans, 48 Democrats, 2 Independents (that caucus Dem), and a Dem VP add up to a supermajority?

Many a bill has been sunk by failure to gain a Senate supermajority for the rascally cloture rule to allow a bill's debate to end, so a vote can even take place.

American Civics is fun.

What Ajax doesn’t understand is that, by his own logic, R’s focus on the border is 100% fake.

What Ajax doesn’t understand about politics could fill volumes appropriately titled Encyclopedia Estupida. He's a man of fervent opinions, always ready to expound on the latest political happenings, but within his confident flatulency lies a shallow pool of knowledge, one that barely scratches the surface of the complexities of governance.

*cut scene, fade in, suburbia, a cold Fall morning, downtown Small Town, USA*

Ajax frequents the local sandwich shop, where he holds court at a corner table, regaling fellow Baby Boomers, who listen intently, with passionate rants about the state of the world. He pontificates on economic policies, foreign relations, and social issues with unwavering certainty, despite an obvious and glaring lack of expertise.

At home and at work his friends and acquaintances nod along politely, some even indulging him in debate, knowing full well that Ajax's understanding of politics is as shallow as a puddle after a light rain. Yet, Ajax remains blissfully unaware of his own ignorance, convinced that his opinions hold weight simply because he speaks them with conviction.

However, at the sandwich shop, he is King. As the days and months pass, Ajax's political tirades become a fixture of the sandwich shop’s ambiance, a background noise that patrons have grown accustomed to. Some find amusement in his ignorance, while others simply tune him out, preferring to sip their lattes in peace.

But one day, Ajax's facade begins to crack. During a particularly heated discussion about healthcare reform, a knowledgeable patron calmly dismantles Ajax's arguments with well-reasoned facts and statistics. Ajax stumbles over his words, unable to counter the onslaught of evidence against his ill-informed opinions.

Something snaps quietly in his psyche.

The South Shall Rise Again.

He pontificates wildly over mundane government policies, routine societal divides, and banal historical grievances with unwavering certainty, aware of the tinderbox he's intentionally fueling. The white men, now about a dozen strong and mostly elderly, grit their teeth. One of the men who attends Ajax’s redneck court is a young adult who understands social media. He understands the resentment. He’s an incel, but he feels something stir. He feels purpose for the first time in his sheltered life. He records and publishes Ajax’s rants.

Ajax’s words, like sparks in a dry forest, ignite passions and resentments long simmering beneath the surface. As his rhetoric grows more inflammatory, tensions escalate across the nation, divisions deepening and fractures widening. The once united country finds itself on the brink of a second Civil War, torn apart by ideological differences and fueled by Ajax, the man who would light the Fuse of Rebellion.

And it does.

War.

Everything is destroyed. A hundred million Americans are dead.

Ajax's name becomes synonymous with chaos and destruction, his legacy forever tarnished by the role he played in sparking the flames of conflict. In the carnage that followed, Ajax is forced to confront the consequences of his words. Surrounded by the devastation he helped unleash, he realizes the weight of his ignorance, the gravity of his actions. But it's too late to turn back the clock, too late to undo the damage he's done.

As the country plunged into darkness, torn apart by violence and bloodshed, Ajax's voice was silenced, drowned out by the deafening roar of men who heeded his call. He was later killed by a scared septuagenarian who thought he was black man. Irony.

Ajax’s story later served as a cautionary tale for historians, a grim reminder of the power of words to shape the course of history, for better or for worse. And as the smoke cleared and the dust settled, Ajax's name would be spat out by those who uttered it, a name forever linked to the tragic chapter of the Second American Civil War. A name shrouded in disgust. Disdain. And sadness at the ignorance of Man.

*close scene, fade out, Cocolate Rain plays softly as the credits roll*

So you can only tax the rich if you have a 2/3 supermajority? Why promise things that you can't possibly deliver upon? Why spend right now as if this tax the rich legislation has been passed?

The "infrastructure" bill was passed due to the scamdemic. Do you remember when you were calling him DeathSantis for letting us go back to work years before the left coast? You either knew or should have known by June of 2020 that socialist distancing, shutting down bars, restaurants, closing schools, etc was not worth the economic costs you imposed upon people not to mention the blatant violation of our civil rights based on the false belief that vaccines stopped the spread of COVID or that COVID was anywhere near as deadly as you frightened people into believing for your own political gain.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Oh, yes. Another game of "squirrel!!!!." C'mon Ajax, I know you can do this. How were Democrats able to pass the ACA and the IRA without a 2/3 senate majority? And what bill did R's pass (and Trump signed) in the same way that those two bills were passed?

I wouldn't necessarily say that. It's possible to be bipartisan when there are people who believe in fiscal responsibility, and aren't beholden to their donor masters.

But, yes, without a supermajority (I think it's 3/5, not 2/3, but might be wrong), bills can be (and are) eternally stalled if a given political party cares more about maintaining the status quo for the purpose of outrage porn, and wants to stifle democracy and prevent the will of the people being expressed through their representatives.
Why promise things that you can't possibly deliver upon?
I imagine hope springs eternal that politicians can act as functional adults once in a while.
Why spend right now as if this tax the rich legislation has been passed?
I don't know. Maybe the queens of deficit spending, MAGA Republicans, have insight on that.
Do you remember when you were calling him DeathSantis for letting us go back to work years before the left coast?
No, I don't remember when I was calling him this. It begs the question, why are you once again remembering something that has never happened?

The only stupidity I see is in people who allowed themselves to bamboozled by the COVID fearmongers to the point that we're now no longer free to change jobs and refinance our mortgages because of things like the "Inflation reduction act," and infrastructure spending boondoggles. And what's the answer, promise to tax millionaires and billionaires to pay for the money you're borrowing right now to dole out to purchase the votes of as many different political factions as possible and continue spending more money than God or man has ever seen and expect anything different than more inflation and higher interest rates. Wouldn't it be better to actually secure these tax revenues first before spending the money? Nope, our political system has made impossible for even Republicans to consider reforming social security or medicaid. Just continue to borrow, spend, and kick the can down the road all the while expeccting a different result than we've been getting for the last 80 years of failed socialst policies.

Does it make any sense to you that we're sending aid money to both Israel and Hamas, effectively financing both sides of a war? There's only one explanation for this insane policy. Both Jews and Arab Americans are stupid enough to believe that this means Biden is working in their best interests and thus they're still willing to sell him their vote.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Totally unrelated, here's a study published in Psychological Science on how lower cognitive ability is a reliable predicter for someone holding social conservatism, or right-wing authoritarianism ideologies. Bright Minds and Dark Attitudes: Lower Cognitive Ability Predicts Greater Prejudice Through Right-Wing Ideology and Low Intergroup Contact

Also totally unrelated, here's a meta-analysis, published in the European Journal of Personality, reaffirming that lower cognitive ability is associated with a stronger endorsement of right-wing ideologies. The Association of Cognitive Ability with Right–Wing Ideological Attitudes and Prejudice: A Meta–Analytic Review

Also, completely unrelated to any posts within this thread, here's a study published in the journal, Intelligence, showing that lower SAT, Vocabulary, and Analogy test scores for university students was directly correlated to conservative ideologies. Conservatism and cognitive ability

Obviously, all unrelated. Just posting for no reason whatsoever.
