Why all the screaming about WOKE?

My Facebook stream is filled with attacking different people and shows for being WOKE and certain stars losing their jobs. Tom Hanks attacked by Roseanne. Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford attacking other stars for being WOKE. And then there is the spewing hatred of Harry and Meghan. Is there a conspiracy to dumb down the population? I shared this which I had found online and WOW the reactions. I am glad they don't live in the same country as I do.

"Woke" has assumed the power to short-circuit whatever message is being conveyed in favor of wondering what the agenda is. I basically assume people using that word (pejoratively) aren't really thinking about the criticism but invoking the power of the buzzword and expecting it to do the heavy lifting.

I haven't been on Facebook since well before "woke" became an insult, and it doesn't seem to have slowed down for me. I see it in videos all over YouTube. Of course, that's likely what the YouTube algorithm thinks I want to see.

hauslern, I am not following Facebook or other insult exchange systems so I am left wondering what reaction you got to this list. I suppose that for some woke refers to the most extreme folks and using that to tar a larger group.

On you tube I keep getting an advertisement where some fellow looking like a history professor says when we have these woke revolutions people need to stand up and say no. People need to understand history, who died at Shilo etc. Take this course. Sounds to me like an invitation to indoctrination. I wonder what in the h he means by woke revolutions but I am not going to take his course to find out. I have read a few things about Shilo.

I am tired of all of these gimmicky identity packages concocted in the continuing dance between activists, the media, and politicians. Based, woke, whatever. I say to blazes with the whole damned phenomenon. My idea is not to let loudmouth busybodies force their fads down our throats. I say this to everyone across the ideological spectrum.

I don't know that those "symptoms" describe what I thought "woke" meant. But I'm a millennial, I'm officially too old to understand lol.

My Facebook is full of crap. I wish they let you choose what you see like they used to. I see very little from my friends. Just ad after ad. I'd like an option to see only my friends' posts. But then I guess Facebook wouldn't make any money. I'm already posting much less on there. If I didn't have so many photos of my kids throughout their lives, I think I'd delete it. If I saw all of my friends posts and nothing else I'd be inclined to use it more. I can literally scroll through hundreds of ads. And even recommended posts from people I don't know and see nothing from the actual humans I know. And I know some post but it doesn't show up on my feed.

Harrison Ford is refusing to work with certain people because they are too WOKE. The same with Mel Gibson against Tom Hanks. Roseanne is refusing "woke" people from her show. Stories that Whoopie Goldberg has been ditched for a part in a new movie. They want the View finished or some contributors booted off.

I agree with that list. It has become blazingly obvious to me that "WOKE" is really just the opposite of hateful bigotry of all kinds. Accusing or mocking people for being "WOKE" is just a more euphemistic way of mocking (for example) non-racists by derisively calling them "Ni**er lovers." Woke simply means being alert to, exposing and striving to minimize and eliminate hurtful inequities and unwarranted prejudices that still exist. What "anti-WOKE-ism" really amounts to is the idea that the real and more pernicious bigotry is adamant opposition to bigots and their bigotry!
