UK General Election
I am seeing so much propaganda and discussion of people encouraging others to vote for reform. It's a wasted vote. If people want the Tories out they need to vote labour. This happened when I was at uni. There was a big push to vote lib Democrats to change the parliament and yes they did better than expected but then we ended up with a hung parliament and ultimately with the Tories in power. I feel like some smart arse conservative somewhere is pushing for the reform vote because they know if people vote reform then conservative will win. People are delusional. I will be shocked if reform win. Who on earth wants Nigel Farage as an MP? None of them can be trusted. They all lie. And I'm not a fan or any of them and I usually think that one party staying in for a while is required to give them time to find stability but it's been too long and our economy is shocking. It's all bollocks.
Edit to clarify: I hope Labour win.

Re: UK General Election
For our US friends, who may be puzzled when they see you saying:
In the opinion polls, Labour is currently well ahead of the Conservatives. Just on that basis, the Conservatives are going to lose a lot of parliamentary seats to Labour, who are therefore likely to form the next government. If however Reform manage to siphon off large parts of what might have been the Conservative vote, it is still not likely that Reform will win many seats in Parliament. In fact, the result will be that Labour win even more seats, and the Conservatives face a catastrophic electoral wipe-out that will put them in danger of effective extinction as a political force.
I can't bring myself to feel sorry about that prospect.
As for the 'they are all liars' stuff: to that, I would say: Look IWMP, the real practical choice is between a Labour government and more years of the Conservatives, who have been a disaster for the country over their fourteen years in power. It's one or the other.
If you would be perfectly happy to have more Conservative years in the future, don't bother voting. But if not, your only real choice is Labour. I happen to place a lot of hope in Labour, and I hope they win. But unless you are a masochist, at least help get the Conservatives out. The fact that you have kids seems to me a strong motivation for putting a stop to the nastiest and most stupid government the UK has had for many years.
"Reform", with a capital 'R' is in fact the name of a relatively new political party pushing the ideas of a right wing populist demagogue called Nigel Farage. This party is currently attracting support from people who might otherwise have voted for the Conservative party; by contrast, they do not seem to be attracting a lot of Labour Party supporters.

Re: UK General Election
I think you misunderstand me. I intend to vote labour and hope Labour win. (All options appear to suck but the choice is conservative or labour, I was concerned that Labour voters were talking of voting 'R'eform). Thank you for explaining. That is a relief that you say it is conservatives turning to Reform rather than labour.Chap wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2024 6:19 pmFor our US friends, who may be puzzled when they see you saying:

I am surprised to see Farage back in the political spotlight? I thought the Brexit reality after the promises tarnished him a bit and he wasn't as welcome?

I think David what's his face got more stick for the Brexit situation. Forgot his name. Re: UK General Election
I wonder if he has jumped at the chance because people are talking about the party. Hasn't he changed party multiple times? Not sure we need a leader that changes station at any opportunity to get into power. My politics knowledge is poor so don't go by anything I say.honorentheos wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2024 10:31 pmI am surprised to see Farage back in the political spotlight? Re: UK General Election
Labour is going to crush from all indications. Reform is just where a lot of conservatives who hate the Conservatives for Brexit's disaster are going to land because they can't stomach voting labour.

Re: UK General Election
Makes sense. Surely labour is better than Nigel farage. I sincerely hope that whoever wins changes things for the better. And in particular, reverses the damage done to the NHS by introducing policies and targets that have completely changed the way GP surgeries run. The place I am registered changed literally overnight from the best surgery I've ever experienced to the worst. I doubt conservatives are going to undo anything they have done.

It's not a wasted vote if that's who you want to win.

Re: UK General Election
I wouldn't vote reform. I did want lib Democrats to win before.
Voting anything other than labour or conservative is a wasted vote because they have no chance of winning. There are so many people that have a party in their blood and no matter how bad the party is they will still vote them. Think Scotland and rangers v Celtic but not quite as extreme. There is a class element to the political parties that affects how people vote.
