Biden needs to step aside

After Biden’s debare performance tonight, it’s obvious he needs to let a different Democrat run.

It was a tough watch for sure. Not sure there is any likelihood Biden would step aside, and it would probably do damage, too. Trump would gain momentum from being seen as having taken him out.

ETA: And to be fair I think Biden was better than the optics paint. He struggled to lucidly layout his points (it would have been nice to see him get to 3 once or twice). But he was generally commenting on facts while facing a firehouse of BS that a younger, more cool candidate could have taken down with a jab or two rather than seeming baffled by it. It's one of the moments when I find myself thinking how we ended up in a system where an unfortunately large percentage of folks vote for the person they think has the nicer smile but confabulate reasons other than that for why they voted as they did. Biden isn't a good front person for what is largely a very competent administration. But we don't think about it that ways. It's still high school prom, with nukes.

Did he totally bomb out? I only walked through the room where DH was watching it. Biden's voice sounded very weak.

Pete Buttigieg would have mopped the floor with Trump. Trump issued a non-stop barrage of lies and Buttigieg would have that covered.

Biden was weak in the volume battle.

He looked old and playing into the narrative he doesn't seem to know where he is. He rambled and the debate lacked any hard hitting points or memorable lines that would define either candidate. Trump basically played his greatest hits of grievances so it came across as more polished, so the likely narrative will be bad for Biden while having nothing to do with the content of what was said.

Buttigieg was one of my favored candidates in 2020 but the fact is he wasn't going to win the general election. He couldn't win a majority of Democrats. You don't realize how many folks aren't friendly to a gay vet. That hits two very polarized and different culture war demographics.

Thanks. I decided not to view it live. I did look on CNN's website at the live updates and saw a Democrat reaction that said "We're f*cked". Do you agree, honor?

With that comment? No. This is the earliest presidential debated and one of two. It damaged Joe's image but historically incumbent presidents do bad in the first debate.

Trump said some crazy crap. He said Putin told him he dreamed of taking Ukraine, for example. His actual words were damaging AF. It's the optics that are killing Biden. We will just have to see how things play out.

Anyone hoping to see a strong Biden wipe the floor with Trump would not only be disappointed but feel it may have gone the other way. Anyone reading the transcript of the debate will wonder what the fuss is about. And how anyone could believe a word that comes out of Trump's mouth.

I'm going to make an easy prediction that the list of banana pants crazy things Trump said didn't happen or were someone else's fault becomes the Democrat message after. And MAGA is going to meme the hell out of Joe.

I will also say Biden got the only laugh out of me with the comment about Trump having the morals of an alley cat.
