Harris's VP?
Since we seem to be enjoying prediction threads I thought I'd throw one out for consideration.
Assuming Harris winds up as the Democrats' Presidential nominee, which seems very likely at this point, who will be her VP?
If I had to throw down money today I'd go for Mark Kelly. He rounds out the ticket pretty nicely for a lot of reasons not least of which is his recent big wins in Arizona. I'd also love to see Whitmer in that role also but I lack faith in the American Public being able to select an all female ticket.

Sadly, yes. I dream of a world where Obama could run again.

Barack Obama could be her VP, technically. It would be against the spirit of the law but not technically illegal.

As much as I liked Obama I think it would be absolute insanity to add him to the ticket. One of the things I've respected most about him is how well he did at stepping away after his term was over.
Arguments of legality aside, the optics of it would be awful. This election will be challenging enough without adding that extra fodder.

Re: Harris's VP?
I honestly couldn't think of a promising contender for the top of the ticket, let alone a VP.
I wish I could be more optimistic about this, but I've been alive too long for that.

Irrationally, I want Mayor Pete to be the choice. I say irrationally because I am not confident that enough voters can overlook their disapproval of his family situation. I really don't want someone's "I just can't vote for a gay person" to be a factor in putting Trump back in office. So, how can I rationally expect the Democrats to take that kind of chance? Still, I would like to be wrong and I think he would be an amazing VP, and, after that, Pres. I would vote for him enthusiastically because he is one of the smartest, most principled people in our government today.

I agree. Honestly, my enthusiasm was never that great. He was tons better than W and Trump, but I think he embodies what makes a lot of people angry with liberals in this country. Recall what happened when the nerds took over Springfield on The Simpsons. There is something about liberals that makes them so sanctimonies, smug, and sure that their approach to things is the correct and moral way that they forget the importance of persuading and compromising. Obama is odd because he wanted to skip the process of compromise and go straight to the compromise solution. It made his bargaining position much weaker, and cost this country quite a bit. If only he had been better at working WITH Republicans instead of shortcutting to his enlightened solution. I may be wrong, but this is the strong impression I have from a fair amount of exposure to others' estimations of his effectiveness as president.Xenophon wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 6:17 pmAs much as I liked Obama I think it would be absolute insanity to add him to the ticket. He is my first thought as well, but disqualifying for the exact reason you stated. If I had my way, he'd be the next President.Kishkumen wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 6:33 pmIrrationally, I want Mayor Pete to be the choice. How nice would it be to have a brilliant guy leading our country? How nice would it be if the majority of people were proud of that (as opposed to how many seem to revel in their leader's stupidity, because somehow, it owns the libs)?

His healthcare compromise was particularly bad, in my opinion. It's the worst of both worlds and for me has driven up the price of health insurance and lowered the benefits. I really, really wish we could have had universal healthcare.Kishkumen wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 6:37 pmI agree. Honestly, my enthusiasm was never that great. Here's a fun thought:
Harris/Romney
Kind of makes me laugh just thinking about it.
ETA: maybe Liz Chaney? VP is in her pedigree.
