The pattern; Trump thinks a proposed wind generation farm slated to be built off the shore of his golf course in Scotland will devalue his land value. Trump therefor declares: wind farms bad. His base: yes, we agree, wind farms bad.
Trump has forever wanted to put a motel Trump in Russia. Trump therefor declares: Russia Good. His base: yes, we agree, Russia good.
Trump wants to win office by playing to the inherent racism in much of his base. His base: Where's my head shaver.
Nobody gets to be a cowboy forever. - Lee Marvin/Monte Walsh
Republican surrogates have been telling us for years that if we don't like America, we should leave. Now that they hate America, it's strange they're staying, especially when everything they want is right there in Russia. Thought control, suppression of speech, autocracy, white supremacy, political violence... it's the full MAGA buffet.
So weird. It's almost as if they don't mean what they say. Shocking, I tell you. Shocking. I expected a long caravan of the GOP base at the Russian southern boarder.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.
The losers in World War II were certainly bad guys. Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and Imperial Japan were horrible states. The Stalinist Soviet Union was also a bad guy, however, in that sense, and it was among the war's winners. It could be considered the biggest winner in some ways.
The idea that winning the war with Soviet allies somehow infected the western democracies with Communism is ridiculous, though. Socialism appealed to most of the world in the Great Depression, and living through a big war probably got people used to more active government, but the Cold War started up right away.
Fighting on the same side as the Soviets didn't make anyone want to imitate Soviet Communism. You may be impressed at how your neighbours survive in miserable conditions, and learning more about just how miserable their conditions are may make you more impressed, but it only makes you less willing to join them in misery.
