Gunnar where are you?

Dear Herr Gunnar,

I'm writing to ask you where you are. First, you missed my 25 year anniversary of posting online on October 14th. TWENTY FIVE years, Gunnar. And who was my first ever post a reply to? Some guy named Gunnar. Some nowhere-to-be-seen guy named Gunnar.

Secondly, you didn't show up on your birthday. So...where are you? You're supposed to be here. I'm supposed to be able to look at the board before I go to bed and see you here and read your most recent post. It's a rule. It's a ritual. It's a requirement.

I actually demand it at this point.

You can't rightly expect me to be here and then go to sleep without my ritual, can you? Do you think that's fair? No, it is not. It's supposed to be...read Gunnar, pray, then go to sleep. That's how it goes and pretty much how it has gone (except for a few gaps) for what? TWENTY FIVE YEARS.

Except on Wednesdays. You're never here on Wednesdays. (Feel stalked?) 8-)

I don't know where you are or if I can sleep. I may never sleep again.

Gunnar come back!!

He was probably put off by the lack of security certificate on the site. He'll likely wander back eventually.

I hope so, anyway.

On a sort-of-but-not-really-but-maybe related note, this site was hacked recently. My IP was blocked and until I changed proxies, the site kept telling me my IP was permanently banned. Obviously, I'd done nothing to warrant a ban (I don't think I'd even posted recently when I first got it), so I knew the site had been hacked (unless the mods aren't telling me something). I've been meaning to mention it since coming back. I could read the site from my phone, but I don't really like doing that so I only tried it once. I'm not sure if anyone else had it happen to them, or if this topic was brought up anywhere.

Maybe Gunnar's IP has been blocked? Just throwing it out there.

I’m not sure hacking was the problem. If you have a dynamic IP, which most folks do, we could have banned an IP in the same block from which your IP is assigned. That’s why we try to avoid banning IPs, unless we really need to.

The easiest solution is to reset your IP from the device that is assigning it or, as you did, changing your proxy ID you are using a VPN.

Interesting. Good to know.

Jersey, should we put out an all-points bulletin for Gunnar?

See? I'm right here. See how late it is? Where am I? Looking for you that's where. Where you at, man?

Okay Gunnar. I'm thinking that maybe on the occasion of your birthday, you might have taken a trip back to the Father Land, you know, Deutschland, to visit your kin, grab a beer, visit a castle then swing back home.

Fine.

You still owe me. You owe me big, man. Twenty five years!!! Pfffft to you, buddy!

So here is THE only way you can redeem yourself. Get yourself a pair of ear buds or head phones (whatever you've got), put them in your ears, turn up the volume to TOTAL BLAST, I mean so loud it's gonna rattle your brain... lock yourself in a closet and listen to THIS.

ALL the way through or it doesn't count. Bonus points if you actually dance to it. Shake your tail feathers and you're golden.

I recently blocked a large number of spambot IP ranges from countries other than the United Kingdom and North America. Hopefully his didn't fall into the range. Does he live outside those two areas?

Is there a way to unblock Gunnar? Maybe send him a message?

I just checked. Neither his email domain nor his IP range is blocked.

Still awake and no Gunnar. Election week and no Gunnar. This isn't funny any more, my friend.
