Persecution Complex

You know, I just realized that part of the reason Trump's fans stay loyal to him in the face of all his criminal indictments is they readily buy into the idea he is being persecuted, likely because they're projecting their own persecution complex on him.
I mean, anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows the indictments are for real crimes. Only a fool thinks the DOJ or Biden is involved. So when new reports of his crimes are released, they are presented by right wing media (if at all) in the context of, "here's the latest thing Democrats are persecuting Trump with" and they all lap it up because of course Saint Donald couldn't be guilty of anything. He was sent by god.
This really helps to explain evangelical support, actually. It also helps explain his aggrieved base. Whiney bitches like whiney bitches who whine and bitch on their behalf.

It’s worse than that. When Trump was president, he directed the DOJ on several occasions to investigate/go after his enemies. Despite all his bleating about “lawfair,” he was actually doing it.
The Durham investigation was about locking her and/or her campaign staff up. It is the perfect picture of what a weaponized Justice Department looks like. Mueller got both guilty pleas and convictions. The other indicted folks were outside of US jurisdiction. Durham got one plea bargain and lost two jury trials, which is kind of embarrassing given how strong a case is supposed to be before the DOJ takes it to trial. Durham then issued a report setting out a bunch of claims he had no evidence for. In contrast to Mueller’s investigation and report, it was a genuine hit job from a politicized investigation.
So Trump actually used the Justice Department to go after his enemies. Then he simply ignored the law and whines about being a victim when prosecuted. It’s all a carny act.

Oh yeah, I've known from the minute I first heard him say it that Trump was doing his regular "accuse his rivals of the thing he's doing" shtick. Trump's hypocrisy is his character (or the lack thereof).
I was just astounded by the audience reaction. I've seen Trump fans fawn over reprehensible crap before, but this felt like a new level. Part of me wants to blame group dynamics. As George Carlin liked to point out, individuals are lovely. Groups suck. I'm sure many of them got caught up in the moment, but I still can't help but think they aren't really hearing and internalizing what they're listening to, and if they are, they are pathetic.

I need to go on another politics break. This election is making me wonky. I've already voted... why am I still paying attention?
Of course, my vote was predetermined several years ago, when I first teased my wife for watching

No worries. I have no doubt that if you were reading about him back then, you thought he was a schmuck back then. Makes perfect sense.
I had heard of him, but I'd never seen him speak until my wife started watching Apprentice. My wife (self-admittedly) watches a lot of trash TV, and I've given her a hard time about a lot of her shows over the years (I know way more about
Real Housewives than I ever wanted or needed). The Apprentice struck me as another mindless show mostly because Trump's judgments at the end were never based on anything logical or real, let alone based on business savvy. They all seemed capricious and I thought they were trying to leave us with the impression Trump was a super genius and his decision represented some kind of advanced business skill, when in reality he sounded like a moron. He's always has sounded like a moron to me.
