Trump claimed that FAA's DEI initiatives (which were establish during his last administration, by the way) were responsible for the tragic DC crash. When asked if he had any evidence of that he claimed that was just "common sense," which only confirmed that, indeed, he had no evidence of his claim.
Elon Musk had demanded the resignation of Whitaker because he had fined SpaceX for violations of serious safety regulations, and then later ordered the SpaceX's starship program be grounded until they figured out what went wrong when the last test exploded, spraying debris over much of the Indian Ocean, forcing emergency diversions of numerous commercial flights.Rachel Maddow tells the story of how the former FAA administrator, Michael Whitaker, fell afoul of Elon Musk and was driven from his position upon Donald Trump taking office. With Trump's negligence toward assembling a competent government, the position remained empty through the deadly mid-air collision Wednesday night.
Trump has now nominated a new FAA administrator, who will now oversee the investigation of the recent crash. Does anyone think that, given Trump's insistence that all his appointees be absolutely loyal to him, will dare to state any conclusions about the cause of the crash that disagree with Trump's preconceived conclusion?
Consider also the fact that there were only 19 flight controllers available for this extremely congested airspace of 30 authorized, due to Trump's hiring freeze and determination to replace any of them who were not loyal, Trump sycophants. I think the additional stress placed on them by Trump's policies and the fact they were seriously shorthanded was more likely to have contributed to the crash than FAA's supposed DEI hiring practices!
