Canada-Greenland Defense Pact with China?

Post by Moksha »

Given the insane and unpredictable nature of Donald Trump, who has announced on many occasions his desire to invade both Canada and Greenland, should those two countries seek to sign a mutual understanding of defense with China?

It's a brilliant suggestion. According to George Friedman who so far has done the best job of the Trump rationalizers out there, at least for me, Russia has lost the proxy war with the US by any conceivable measure. The US will ally with Russia somewhat like the US rebuilt Japan after WWII. The US will also ally with Saudi Arabia and ditch Europe. He thinks Europe is finished. China is the real US adversary and US will contain China in this new alliance.

So what happens with the US's former partners? Well, George says don't get too distracted by what Trump says. However, there are real strategic reasons for why the US would want to control the entire northern continent; there's enough to the idea that both Greenland and Canada should be worried, in my opinion. As the Overton window moves, by the time China moves to retake Taiwan, the former liberal world, which is economically collapsing, won't have the luxury of lecturing everyone on morals and every state will need to focus on protecting themselves. A China alliance could make sense, especially since in the long term, it's conceivable that should Canada and some European nations avoid collapse, they are broadly ideologically aligned with goals like sustainable energy and state-sponsored projects.
