Call ICE what it is: State Sponsored Terrorism

ICE is not Law Enforcement. It is State Sponsored Terrorism. It is not out of control: it is doing exactly what the Trump regime asked it to. They told ICE to do whatever it takes and that it has absolute immunity. They gave ICE a license to kill, backed by an absolute promise of no accountability, ever.

No bona fide law enforcement agency would have failed to perform an investigation of an officer involved shooting, let alone spoiled the crime scene by cleaning it up. ICE has gone farther — actively interfering with the state’s right to investigate a homemade within its borders But the federal government is actively covering up Renee Good’s murder by refusing cooperation with authorities. It tried to do the same thing today by trying to prevent the Minneapolis police from preserving the crime scene of today’s gang-style execution.

The regime has already shown that it will never hold ICE agents accountable for killing by lying through its teeth before the facts are released to the public. Bovino accused the victim of planning to do maximum damage to ICE agents. He implied that victim has tried to assault agents with an automatic pistol. In fact, this “domestic terrorist” had been directing traffic around an ICE operation, when he saw an ICE agent run across the street and knock a woman to the ground. He ran over to help her, when he was pepper sprayed twice in the face. An agent took the victim’s legal, permitted handgun from his holster, and then agents fired numerous rounds into his body.

None of this excessive force, lying, and constant escalation of violence is necessary to deport people in the US without permission. Obama deported as many people as Trump has been deporting without agents ramming cats, breaking windows, or killing bystanders. This is all theater. Kayfabe, if you will. From the first propaganda violence porn film of people being sent to a brutal prison in El Salvador (some of them falsely identified as Venezuelan gang members) to the on-camera military style assault on an apartment building in Chicago (which resulted in no arrests or deportations), to Bovino’s choreographed appearances in his Gestapo-style coat (complete with slapstick attention to deploy a smoke canister), the brutality is all theater. It is intended to not only terrorize black and brown folks to flee the country, it is intended to terrorize every citizen in the country into accepting the unacceptable.

Remember the National Security Memo that protested to make millions of Americans into domestic terrorists? Including people who have “extreme views” on immigration (where “extreme views = anything other than the federal government’s policy). You’re seeing it implemented right now. ICE agents are videoing protestors faces and license plates for a federal database. One ICE agent was caught on video taunting a protester he adds just filmed by telling her she was now on record as a domestic terrorist.

We fought a war 250 years ago over this kind of government tyranny. Looks like the regime is spoiling for another.

Apparently he wants the voter rolls in Minnesota. If it's about targeting blue states, it sounds like the prize at the end of the trail is stealing the midterms. I suppose that somewhere in the middle of that trail is the Insurrection Act.

I don’t think the psychology is as important as the sociology. This is the predictable (and in this case, predicted) result of an authoritarian mass movement. There’s no magic to how it works. We know how it works. It’s why I’ve been harping on Rwanda for a long time now.

Individuals in an authoritarian mass movement subsume their individual identities into the tribal identity. Whatever the leader says is right and good because he is the leader. And the leader of the current movement is insane.

That’s why the making of the ICE agents is key. It reinforces that they are not individuals. They are part of the tribe following the leaders’ orders. Anonymity allows them to follow orders with impunity.

Conservative media and politicians created this monster over the last 50 years. A bunch of billionaires decided to jump on the monster’s back and ride it to profit or their apocalyptic view of the future. And now the monster is so powerful that none of them can jump off for fear of being devoured.

Individual ICE agents could be almost anyone. Remember, it was ordinary Rwandans that hacked their neighbors to death with machetes. It’s the authoritarian movement that is the monster. We didn’t learn the lessons of Hitler, Stalin, and Mao, and now we have Americans in uniform murdering their countrymen with no accountability. We are one incident away from American troops firing on American citizens.

It’s insanity.

I suspect the situation in Minneapolis is going to boil over now that the Nat'l Guard has been deployed. A clash or confrontation of some sort. I don't know a lot about gov't agencies. I'm learning in real time. How far away from the Insurrection Act might we be? I don't see Trump walking away in defeat from this like he did the Greenland fiasco at Davos. The thing is that ICE and their Dear Leader are entirely lawless so I don't think it matters which agency outranks the other.

with regard to to psychology of the agents. I think it's as relevant as is the sociology at work. What you've described here in terms of sociology is the mechanism. What I'm asking for is motive or the why.

I think that's partly a sense of belonging to the tribe. Do you think the aggression is tribalistic behavior? Do you think it has to do with dominance? Control? Something bubbles under the surface of these guys that allows them to behave as a mob. Something primal going on there. Do you think they've been brainwashed/indoctrinated to believe their survival depends on aggression and eliminating the perceived enemy?

I don't know a lot about war. Years ago I studied the rise and fall of Hitler at length. I don't remember specifics beyond the concentration camps and "medical" experiments, and also Hitler's ultimate end with Eva Braun.
