Remember the National Debt?

More than 10 years ago we passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. This bill included $550 billion in spending and $275 billion in tax cuts. I remember it like it was yesterday. My Facebook feed was bombarded with silly memes and manufactured outrage, all decrying "Socialism" and runaway government spending that was certain to explode the National Debt like never before. You see, we couldn't allow the debt go any higher because that would cause hyperinflation, a crashing stock market and skyrocketing unemployment. Of course, there was no hyperinflation, the stock market tripled, and the unemployment rate dropped from 10% to 5% through Obama's tenure.
In 2020 Trump signed the CARES Act which was the largest stimulus bill in US history, totally more than $2.2 trillion in spending. That's roughly four times the size of the Obama stimulus in terms of total spending. None of it was tax cuts, and most of it went to subsidize large corporations. It passed the Republican Senate like a knife through warm butter.
Where are the cries about Socialism and government overreach?
Where is the concern for the $27 trillion in debt, soon to be $30 trillion?
With a Democrat in office, this is sure to be the newest outrage on the Right.

Shhhh. It's not polite to talk about deficits while a Republican is President. Manners!

Hey, let's face it: it costs money to throw cash at people who don't need it and destroy the planet because they finance your campaigns.

I'm sure the liberal elite who run these corporations will come back to the US from more tax friendly countries out of a sense of patriotic duty to the USA. I'm just waiting for all the old Blame Bush excuses for the stagnate economy Democrat policies will produce. Welcome to the new normal.

All of the unhappiness you suffer is your own doing. You deserve it. You've earned it.
It doesn't matter one iota what the economy does in the next 4 years. You will still think it was bad, because you like to be unhappy, and reality rarely makes an impression on you.

I agree that Ajax is creating his own unhappiness. But he doesn't deserve that. No one does. I feel no joy when his unhappiness shows in his posting. I mostly feel bad for him.

You're in the wrong party Schmo. You're not an elite making money off cheap illegal immigrant labor. You're not an illegal immigrant being exploited by people like Icarus. You're not on disability. You're a working man earning a middle class wage. You seem to respect law enforcement. You're not an outlaw demanding the police look the other way. You belong in the Republican party.

I'm unhappy for the country and my children, not myself. I probably stand to make out better in ways due to the new regime. We had a great thing going this past four years. Unfortunately I doubt we'll see this kind of economic boom again for a long time if ever.

Sure we will. As soon as a Republican like Bush runs it into the ground again and another Democrat like Obama passes a stimulus to trigger a decade of economic growth. Until of course another Republican like Trump comes along to ruin it all.

Listen to yourself, Ajax. It's not that Schmo is in the wrong party (and I don't think he self-identifies as a democrat). It's that your delusional fantasies about the world are, well, delusions. In other words, you cling to the cynical caricature of liberals that elites like Rupert Murdoch and Rush Limbaugh spoon feed you so that they can continue to pick your pocket. You are addicted to the anger and resentment that they sell you as a product. You are so addicted, you can't even come close to accurately describing what Schmo believes.
You're like a junkie. And your heroin is hate and resentment. Just like a junkie, you can't see straight and you can't think straight. And you're clearly miserable. Why do you let Rupert Murdoch and Rush Limbaugh do this to you?
