Local group LDS missionary
I'm sort of venting. Our community has a Facebook private group. We share weather reports, advice, referrals, give stuff away to each other, that sort of thing.
Just got a friend request on Facebook. Looked the young man up and sure enough he's the LDS missionary that offered to do service for people in the area. Let me make clear that I did NOT inquire about services. Let me also make clear that I did NOT comment on his offer for service. Let me further make clear that I don't know him from Adam-God theory. Yes, I know he's missionary assigned to this area.
He's obviously going through the group member list and trying to friend people.
WTH. I already have friends. Get some boundaries. Have a nice life. But leave me alone.
That is all.

This is probably the essence of why there is anything that resembles any discrimination against Mormons (I think the supposed discrimination is made up to manipulate the faithful to believe in a black/white narrative and retrench in belief. By being obnoxious and having normal people object, the missionary then believes the persecution narrative Dan Peterson loves so much). Nevertheless, people are tired of the intrusiveness for "God." Stop it Brethren! Stop pushing the nice kids to be rude to people that want their privacy.. The world is tired of the sales pitch.

Wanting their privacy is exactly right. The folks who live where I do all moved here because they would rather live around wild animals than they would other human beings. Don't get me wrong, it's a very caring community. But you'll see things like photos of cars (license plates included) saying "Does anyone recognize this vehicle? It came up the drive way, sat there for 10 minutes, and left." We're not paranoid, we just want to be left alone. They want to know if something's up in the area because LE doesn't respond quickly and that's why a rough estimate 95% of the residents are armed to the teeth. People watch out for each other but they don't appreciate intrusion.Dr Exiled wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 5:27 amThis is probably the essence of why there is anything that resembles any discrimination against Mormons (I think the supposed discrimination is made up to manipulate the faithful to believe in a black/white narrative and retrench in belief. You'd think that someone from the local Ward might have given this young man some background on the place.
He first came on the page offering to do odd jobs for people. When multiple people pitched for him, I checked their Facebook and of course they were all LDS. It's fine by me if he is out there doing God's work only don't join a private group, say you live here (you have to be vetted), and then go around friending the member's list.
He'll get tossed out of the group once the complaints start coming in to the group admin.

Re: Local group LDS missionary
Is this a ward missionary or a regular missionary that has a companion? The reason why I ask is I'd like to see if a polite request to the missionary's leader would stop the intrusive behavior? In my neighborhood, we had a sister missionary who jumped over a wall to get into my community that had banned her from knocking on people's doors. A complaint was made to the mission president and the missionary was immediately transferred to another area.

I'm not sure. I'll try to look him up again in the group later if he's still there. I can't believe the sister would actually jump over a wall to get inside your community.Dr Exiled wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 1:44 pmIs this a ward missionary or a regular missionary that has a companion? If anyone scaled a fence out here to trespass on anyone's property...there would likely be an ambulance involved. I'm not even close to joking.

I had a missionary companion from a long time ago sent me a friend request over Facebook several months ago. I did accept it.

Re: Local group LDS missionary
Regular missionary as opposed to ward missionary, like Dr. Exiled asked. A ward missionary would be from a local congregation.
Pretty disingenuous way for full-time missionaries to introduce themselves.
