Hell isn't so hot

Post by _harmony »

From a book that lives on my bathroom floor:

A 2005 study determined the temperature of Heaven and Hell. First, citing Isaiah 30:26, which says that in heaven "the light of the Moon shall be as the light of the Sun and the light of the Sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days" , they did the math and found that heaven would be 525 degrees C or 977 degree F. For Hell, they used Revelations 21:8, which describes a "lake which burneth with fire and brimstone." Their calculations determined that a lake of molten brimstone (sulphur) must be at or below its boiling point, around 445 degrees C or 833 degrees F. The study's conclusion: "Heaven is hotter than Hell."

So there you have it. Hell is marginally cooler than Heaven. Thank you, Isaiah and John.

A point to note, is that 'Flesh and Bone' could not exist in those temperatures. Wade would undoubtedly have an explanation for this.

Hi Harmony,

Maybe Joseph Smith was right after all in describing heaven as "everlasting burnings." Anyway, I don't want to be in eaither the Celestial Kingdom (heaven?) or in hell (outer darkness). I want to be in the Terrestial Kingdom, where the weather there is a lot cooler.

D&C 130:6-9
6 The angels do not reside on a planet like this earth;
7 But they reside in the presence of God, on a globe like a dsea of glass and fire, where all things for their glory are manifest, past, present, and future, and are continually before the Lord.
8 The place where God resides is a great Urim and Thummim.
9 This earth, in its sanctified and immortal state, will be made like unto crystal and will be a Urim and Thummim to the inhabitants who dwell thereon, whereby all things pertaining to an inferior kingdom, or all kingdoms of a lower order, will be manifest to those who dwell on it; and this earth will be Christ’s.

Also from the writings of Abraham:
A passage in the Apocalypse of Abraham reads like a modern description of the seething, ever-changing elements within a star. Abraham was shown the stars. An angel comes and takes him on a journey, during which Abraham goes into a trance (fig. 49). His spirit leaves his body, for when he comes back, it enters his body again and he has to be raised onto his feet. His spirit leaves his body, and the angel takes him to watch a star in the process of transformation. What an effect it has on him! He says he sees an indescribably mighty light, and within the light a vast fire in which there is a host of tremendous forms, which are always changing and exchanging with each other, constantly changing their shape as they move and consume each other and alter themselves.35 First, the hydrogen goes into a helium cycle, then to the next cycle, the main phase within a star. According to Abraham, it's quite a thing to see the stars always altering themselves. He frankly does not know what is going on. "I've never seen anything like this," he says. But of course he's not supposed to have, so he asks the angel, "Why have you brought me here? I've become weak, I can't see a thing, and I think I'm out of my mind."36 The angel tells him to stick close to him and not be afraid. But later they are both wrapped in something like flame, and the noise is as the voice of many rushing waters.37 This was long before the time of Christ and the day of Pentecost—and we hear much of it in the Kirtland Temple.)38 Then even the angel takes precautions. Abraham wants to fall on his face, but he cannot, "because there was no earth or ground anywhere to fall on."39 Abraham is awfully glad to get back into his body again and feel solid earth under his feet. What a terrifying experience—to see this transmutation of elements within the fire within the body of a star, constantly changing from one element to the next. Very impressive!

Hell would be the opposite of this. A place of darkness and a place where there is no creaton or progression.

Nonsense, Gaz. According to personal revelation of someone I know, heaven is grass, and warm sunshine, and softball. Heavenly Father's pitching, and we're all having a lovely time. And she's in a position to know.

As long as I'm on God's team things would be fine. He'd pitch a perfect game. We just need to make sure someone imperfect is pitching for the opposing team.

Actually, it sounds rather boring.

The Terrestial Kingdom will be a wonderful place to stay at. Here is Doc. and Cov. 76:71-80:

Docrine and Covenants Section 76:71-80:

71 And again, we saw the terrestrial world, and behold and lo, these are they who are of the terrestrial, whose glory differs from that of the church of the Firstborn who have received the fulness of the Father, even as that of the moon differs from the sun in the firmament.
72 Behold, these are they who died without law;
73 And also they who are the spirits of men kept in prison, whom the Son visited, and preached the gospel unto them, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh;
74 Who received not the testimony of Jesus in the flesh, but afterwards received it.
75 These are they who are honorable men of the earth, who were bblinded by the craftiness of men.
76 These are they who receive of his glory, but not of his fulness.
77 These are they who receive of the apresence of the Son, but not of the fulness of the Father.
78 Wherefore, they are bodies terrestrial, and not bodies celestial, and differ in glory as the moon differs from the sun.
79 These are they who are not valiant in the testimony of Jesus; wherefore, they obtain not the crown over the kingdom of our God.
80 And now this is the end of the vision which we saw of the terrestrial, that the Lord commanded us to write while we were yet in the Spirit.

God pitches for all the teams, asbestosman. Father's on one team, and Christ is on the other. And the Holy Ghost is the umpire. It doesn't matter who wins, because tomorrow is another perfect softball day.

If I ever make it to godhood I'm gonna create lots of jerks just to make life interesting. The rest of you can play perfect softball.
