Hi Gaz, fortunately those are the subjects of interest, and the topics of human relevance. "Theology" belongs in "Ancient Studies" of superstitious thinking of magic-believers over time. And how it--theology--continues to influence reality ecapists. Fortunately "Theology" as it was once dictated is now mostly thought of as a passing interest in mythological studies... as i see, and hope it.
Can you really see LDSism making a TRULY, HONEST, PUBLIC, NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL DISPLAY of their personal Theology-Take??
"We'll Show YOU Ours", introduced on "Larry King Live"!! Concluded on Anderson Cooper's "360"!! All produced by CNN!!!
They're too smart for that Bro... Warm regards, Roger

How far youve fallen and deluded yourself.
The theology is what is great about Mormonism. I'm somewhat of a hermit, so the society aspect of the church is no more than an amusement for me. Its the theology that's greta about the church, includeing the fact that you can put it to the test and receive revelation from God himself that it is true.
All that happened to Peter can happen to every member of the church. that's an undisputed fact.
It makes me sad that you forgot it.

Gaz, thank You for your concern. It is appreciated. One thing that we seem to agree on: "...you can .... receive revelation from God himself ..." You have experienced it your life; as have i in mine. And, i dare say has every other thinking feeling person in their life. Although probably not attributing it to "God" as you or i might. "A rose by any name smells as sweet," to quote an old saw.
'Theology' is indeed an interesting study of "God" as perceived by human concept of deity(ies). We--Mormons--have ours, as does every Christian and non-Christian sect to their satisfaction...that state having evolved somewhat in some denominations more than in others.
I think you are as aware of LDS' evolution of 'theology' as am i. IF/WHEN "that" becomes a matter of public scrutiny AND Mormon admission, then LDSism might obtain the credibility it seeks.
Meanwhile it competes fairly well by featuring "Welfare Square" & its amazing production & warehousing of goods that they/we readily share when events require it. The fact of a 50,000 force of exemplary, conservatively uniformed young men and women mining the masses for converts is their winning card, IMSCO. Take that force from the field & Salt Lake Mormonism numbers would quickly fall closer to RLDS numbers, i respectfully suggest.
Further, i suggest, it is not LDS theology that converts people, it is those charming young folks who sacrifice their time--and very often opportunities of youth and future--to serve Mormon prescriptions of happiness that by chance work for some and not for others. Just the way life is.
For LDS theology to declare condemnation of those, such as i, who question their ways & means of institution "God's" way, speaks much louder than does their pretense of piety and Christ-like Charity... I question LDS theology, you don't. So be it... Warm regards, Roger

I used to think the theology was pretty awesome, too, Gaz. Not so much anymore. Either way, the problem for me is that, when "revelation" gives you a testimony of that which is demonstrably false, how can you be sure it's "from God himself"?
I thought the PBS show was fair in its representation of the church, for what it's worth. I probably wouldn't have spent so much time on the modern fundies, but that's just me.

The missionaries sole purpose in going out is to teach people the proper mode of prayer (which many fail to do) and teach people how to receive an answer from God and make contact with the Holy Ghost (God).
The Holy Ghost is unmistakeable in his calming influence (Burning in the Bosum) and revelatory nature (intelligence received). These two things must be co-existent for the Holy Ghost to be present. That ius one way to tell the difference between the Holy Ghost and emotion. emotion is just a feeling without knowledge. Also the Holy Ghost is calming and is not degradeing.
I'm sorry Roger that you have lost all faith in God. I assume this left around the same time you stopped praying.

This is another manufactured Mormon fallacy. To suggest that a person needs to pray using the Mormon methodology in order to communicate with deity (assuming it exists) is pure nonsense. People from all walks of life claim (which you probably discount) communing with God without using the Mormon method. If there is a God, no person (Jesus or Joseph) nor methodology can get in the way of a person's sincere wish to find the Divine.

The proper mode of prayer. Our Father, who art in heaven... nothing there about any specific membership required, folding arms, circles, elbows on shoulders, or inthenameofjesuschristamen... nothing Mormon about it. Yet that is how God taught his earthly brethren to pray. Seems to me like that should still work, no matter what denomination the supplicant is. And I've never known the Brethren to teach any differently.
That was the only time my dear Sweet Pickle has hastily shown our home teacher the door: when he said God would not hear my non-member mother's prayer. I guess my face must have given away my anger. We were assigned a different home teacher the next month. I can endure all manner of foolishness, but that kind of stupidity is simply too much.

I disagree with Gaz. The Missionaries job is to teach Truth. Then hope the Spirit will testify to them. One method to open the communication is to share with them how to pray. The LDS Church has no monopoly on revelation, miracles, or communication with God.

Roger's point is that the LDS Church is never, ever, ever going to go on National TV and discuss the finer points of LDS doctrine. For one, they would have to actually decide what doctrine is, and commit to it, which they can't seem to do these days. Secondly, they simply don't want to talk about a lot of things, such as the theological underpinnings for Celestial polygamy, or that God was once a man, and as men we have the potential to become gods ourselves. We have proof of this reluctance in GBH's interviews where he denied that this is even taught in the LDS church. There's all sorts of LDS theology that will never see the light of a CNN camera crew, from the lips of any LDS General Authority.
Just wait until Larry King asks Gordon B. Hinckley to discuss the apparent similarity between the signs, tokens, and former penalties of LDS temple practice with whatever the masons call their signs, tokens, and penalties. It would be interesting to see the church discuss this stuff, but it will never happen. And LDS temple theology is intertwined deeply enough with LDS theology in general that it would be difficult to discuss one without the other in a lot of cases.
All that happened to Peter can happen to every member of the church. that's an undisputed fact.
I'm disputing it.

He didn't forget it. You're sad that he has chosen not to continue believing in a fairy tale which has some special significance to you. That's really too bad, but I'm not sure it's something you want to get choked up about. Approximately 6.5 billion people on this planet don't believe in it either. That's a lot of sadness, friend. What a hell of a way to live your life.
