where is it said that Joseph Smith is already a God?

Post by _Sethbag »

I distinctly recall reading a statement to the effect that Joseph Smith has already received his eternal reward, and has taken his place, as a God, with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I'm just having a brain cramp and can't remember who said it, or where it was printed. Can anyone remind me?
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Doctrine and Covenants 132:48-50:

48 And again, verily I say unto you, my servant Joseph, that whatsoever you give on earth, and to whomsoever you give any one on earth, by my word and according to my law, it shall be visited with blessings and not cursings, and with my power, saith the Lord, and shall be without condemnation on earth and in heaven.
49 For I am the Lord thy God, and will be with thee even unto the end of the world, and through all eternity; for verily I seal upon you your exaltation, and prepare a throne for you in the kingdom of my Father, with Abraham your father.
50 Behold, I have seen your sacrifices, and will forgive all your sins; I have seen your sacrifices in obedience to that which I have told you. Go, therefore, and I make a way for your escape, as I accepted the offering of Abraham of his son Isaac.

The song Praise to the Man says he has "ascended to heaven" and is "mingling with gods." Not sure if that's the same as becoming a god. Also, I'm pretty sure that song is not dotrine. It's just the opinion of everyone who sings it.
"We of this Church do not rely on any man-made statement concerning the nature of Deity. Our knowledge comes directly from the personal experience of Joseph Smith." - Gordon B. Hinckley

"It's wrong to criticize leaders of the Mormon Church even if the criticism is true." - Dallin H. Oaks

Brigham Young also mentioned in the JoD that Joseph Smith would be an eternal judge with God the Father and Jesus.

I can't remember the exact quote, though...something to the effect of no one getting into the Celestial Kingdom without Joseph Smith's approval.

Joseph was part of the council of gods at the beginning of the world.

Was that a cynical comment or are you serious?

"I seal upon you your exaltation" is not future tense.

And "prepare a throne for you" and "I make a way for your escape" make the whole concept of Joseph Smith's impending exaltation future tense.

This also shows a fundamental lack of comprehension of LDS doctrine on sealing which is no guarentee, just a conditional promise. For example, I am sealed to my wife, but that does not guarentee that I will still be married to her in the eternities.
