Hey Doctor Scratch,
What would the questions on "FARMS knowledge ranking tests" look like if YOU delivered them? :-)
Heh. Well, Dr. Shades, the trouble here is that Dr. Peterson's questions weren't designed to actually quiz DanGB on his knowledge of Mormon apologia. Instead, the "Knowledge Ranking" is really just a set-up. It really doesn't matter what number on the scale DanGB says; DCP will just proceed to dismiss him with a hubristic flick of the wrist: "You clearly aren't familiar with our scholarship."
But, this is old news. DanGB could rephrase his inquiry thusly: "Where can I find secular, academic validation for the apologists' and the Church's most controversial historical assertions?" You won't get an answer from them. Instead, they'll change the subject, saying something like, "Haven't you heard of Margaret Barker? She's not LDS, and just look at her interest in Mormonism!" Yes; okay. That's very nice, but does she agree that the Nephites lived in Meso America? Does she agree that the Lamanites a primarily of Jewish ancestry? Or, if not that, the apologists will yank the rug out and engage in an assault on scholarship and academic validation more generally, e.g., DCP's hackneyed, "Einstein's theories weren't recognized for ages!" or whatever else.
If they were honest, they would just admit that their theories and arguments are completely absurd as far as legit, secular academics are concerned. But they are not honest, so they won't fess up to this.
"[I]f, while hoping that everybody else will be honest and so forth, I can personally prosper through unethical and immoral acts without being detected and without risk, why should I not?." --Daniel Peterson, 6/4/14
