lol.
He's not just somewhat slightly imperfectly irrational - he's nuts!!
If you like living in a crazy world, vote for Stemelbow as apolgist. He'll get your job done! Right up there with Packer!
ShadowFax, nuts? REALLY?
I don't think so. Your standards for sanity would probably exclude the vast majority of humankind. With standards that high, you are bound to be constantly disappointed.
I am not sure stem's so-called "insanity" is all that much more harmful than living for Sci-Fi conventions and the like. He dresses up, he talks about the Prime Directive or some such, and he celebrates Yuri's Night with his pals. You want to make a big deal out of the fact that Star Trek was made up, when the Prime Directive isn't such a bad philosophy in any case.
I say let it go, and quit having a go at stem for wearing Vulcan ears in public.
You’re comparing whacky harmless trekkies with an apologist who consciously wants to bugger up society for his fun, pleasure, hobby and amusement by perpetuating known deceptions while simultaneously chastising critics about the lack of love and trying to champion on the side of love?
I’m not sure how many trekkies affect family relationships, prevent people from going to their children’s marriages, or create workplace problems. This comparison defiles the good name of sci-fi trekkies all over the world!! Lol
The only thing in common with the mo apologist, such as Stemelbow’s type, might be that a clingon trekkie may go out of his way to learn clingon; whereas a rabid apologist might go out of his way to learn and embrace the Joseph Smith language of SmithEgyptian and try to make sense of, or throw around words in a conversation like, ki-floss-is, kolob-beam, zub-zubzool and yabadabadoo. That’s about where the comparison starts and ends. How many trekkies do you know who consciously want to bugger up society and perpetuate deception because they like the s&m fallout that such causes.
Surely you’re kidding.
At this point you’re supposed to insert the reply, “no, I’m not kidding and my name isn’t Shirley.” (homage to the classic Airport joke.)
I find that about as refreshing as stepping into a pile of dog poop. However, in future when I “have” to attend a church, or when I’m at work and experiencing strange Mormon conversational stuff, or going to the large and spacious mall, I’ll just imagine everybody in Vulcan ears to see if that helps.
Actually, I looked in the dictionary for the meaning of the word Stemelbow and here’s what I found.
