Here's an article that cites a recent study that shows moderate drinkers outlive teetotalers.

But, I guess this thread was really supposed to be about coffee and prostate health. Oh well. You know what is really good for prostate health? *wink*

The CFR was to this

but the reality is to get the true benefits to use WINE to get various healthy components, you have to drink enough to trash your liver.

And I see the blatant ignorance of these studies. Until the invasion/decline of LDS in Utah, Utah was number 1 in health. Doctors both inside and outside of Utah contributed that to the Word of Wisdom. That says a lot that folks like you seem to ignore.

Could you cite a source for this, please?

Actually an article also said that masterbation increased the risk of cancer in the 20's and 30's but dropped the risk in the 50's.

I am not really concerned about what was "originally" in the WoW as I believe in continuing revelation.

Ah yes revelation saying hot drinks are bad for you, when even then this was incorrect. Doesn't say much for God knowing knowing what is good or bad. Whats worse is that since this was a common idea floating around, it is good evidence Joseph was not receiving revelation but making it up.

Wine is one of the strongest drinks out there. Beer and Ales is what most consider originally not in the WoW.

CFR Show what studies show us one must drink enough to trash ones liver in order to get the health benifits from it.

That's just an unnessesary attack. I also did not originate this thread. A Critic did instead as an attempt to attack the Word of Wisdom. My agenda is simply to defend against the unprovoked attack.

It is not unprovoked. The church tries to tell the world the WOW is God's words to us, and DrW is just showing another study that shows this is just not the case.

And I see the blatant ignorance of these studies. Until the invasion/decline of LDS in Utah, Utah was number 1 in health. Doctors both inside and outside of Utah contributed that to the Word of Wisdom. That says a lot that folks like you seem to ignore.

Certainly some of the ideas which Joseph used would have health benefits, but I am unaware of Utah being so healthy due to LDS populations. Many other groups actually are more healthy like the Seventh day Adventists. Smoking seems to be easily the hardest on ones health and a number of religions discourage it's use as do LDS, and also many other groups including ones back in Joseph's day where he got the idea.

Yes, one study shows that is not the case. *eyeroll*

What's strange about your commentary on this thread, Josh, is that you seem inconsistent in your reliance on science vs. your reliance on a certain interpretation of the WoW. I.e., you're more than happy to nod in assent to studies that support your BY-influenced view on the WoW, but you erupt with jejune indignation at any studies that undercut the sillier aspects of the doctrine.

All of this is to say, Why bother citing any studies at all? Why not just say that you distrust all of it and that you prefer to rely strictly on your testimony?

So I guess you can't back up with sources as asked by myself and others. Sure there are many studies that show benefits as well as increased risk factors as well. That is true for many things not included in the WOW. The WOW really just represents not what God thought or wanted, but what Joseph thought at the time. The WOW was adjusted over time again just by changing ideas in society. I guess revelation really is only based on what humans think at the time.
