What are you? A broken merry go round of misinformation... In the new testament, it says the following:
John 12:37–38 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him; That the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Lord, who hath believed our report? And to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
Let's compare that to:
Isaiah 53:1 Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?
Now, according to you, chapters 40-55 are Deutero-Isaiah and I do believe chapter 53 falls in that range.
"You lack vision, but I see a place where people get on and off the freeway. On and off, off and on all day, all night.... Tire salons, automobile dealerships and wonderful, wonderful billboards reaching as far as the eye can see. My God, it'll be beautiful." -- Judge Doom

Who was citing Isaiah here? Jesus or the author of John?

Ah, now that is a fun question on many levels. Perhaps your defense is John is mistaken, but then why should we trust anything that John has to say elsewhere? Also, that is still not a denial that Jesus had read these verses in Isaiah and never bothered to have them removed.

I must say it's fascinating to meet a Mormon Inerrantist. I don't believe I have ever had the pleasure before.
My "defense" is that it doesn't matter who wrote it. The only people who seem to be exercised about deutero-Isaiah at all are fundamentalist Christians and Mormon apologists.

That's John's claim about Jesus. Jesus himself is making no claim in that passage.
You'd probably also be shocked to learn that the apostle John didn't write the Gospel of John.

Why would Jesus want the verses removed?

Just to make it clear for me, so I know what parts of the New Testament to believe. What parts of it did Jesus write himself directly? That way I won't to be accused of getting his words and deeds wrong in the future.

Naturally, because your assumptions could NEVER possibly be wrong.
