(Health.com) -- Want to live longer? Trade some of the red meat in your diet for fish, nuts, whole grains, and other healthier protein sources, Harvard researchers say.
That's the conclusion of a new study, published this week in the Archives of Internal Medicine, that found that the risk of dying at an early age -- from heart disease, cancer, or any other cause—rises in step with red-meat consumption.
Eating too much red meat, which is high in saturated fat and cholesterol, has long been seen as unhealthy, especially for the heart. The new study, however, is the first to estimate the effect of swapping out red meat on a person's lifespan. (Courtesy of CNN)

Also, the WoW is demonstrably no longer a health law, but.rather and arbitrary yardstick of obedience.

Its funny how much of the WoW is ignored. Not eating too much meat, homemade wine is OK, and so are "mild drinks" made from grain (beer), and yet somehow illegal drugs have been added to the list though there is no mention of them in D&C 89.

The leading cause of death in the united states is heart disease. You would think if the WoW was about health the Lord would say something about it.

Interesting question.

If they did emphasis the WoW, temple-work would be slowed to a crawl and a possible switching of priorities.
Many studies have shown coffee, in moderation, is good for the constitution.
Also the obesity epidemic, (over eating) personified by many members & temple attendees, plays major heart-havoc. . .

I tend to agree with a poster above: WoW has little to do with health. If it did the powers-that-be could not help but see, and react to, the sad parade of over-weight faithful members, who just might find the loss of a TR would help them modify their eating habits and improve their quality of life. A factor Mormonism makes much of in its PR pieces. . .

If we Mormons placed much emphasis on this health point, we would be left holding the bag in the year 2067 when it was discovered that hot fudge sundaes extended the human life span by 10 years. It would be like our current predicament with coffee and tea all over again.

But it's the narrow-way that will limit the traffic. Then again, its never been hard to modify standards. Right? Recall when Exing was a common practice? Now it seldom happens. . . That's progress (evolution ;-)
