Note how you guys only cherry pick early Mormonism, in which THEY HAD LARGE FAMILY's.... and completely ignore every prophet since, their modest standard sized middle class homes.

Joseph Smith didn't live with any of his other wives, and Brigham Young lived with few of his. I guess the early prophets were more ostentatious and less embarrassed at conspicuous displays of tithing-fueled wealth.

I was in President Kimball's Laird Ave home a couple of times when he was still an apostle. It was nice but average. Most of the Apostles have lived in more upper middle class surroundings during their tenure. Very spacious and deluxe living accommodations seem to come with the white smoke ballot of old age, when they ascend to the Presidency of the Church.

The exception being the current President Thomas Monson who has stayed out of the Presidential Penthouse.

It's not a matter of necessity; it's a matter of ability to pay. The Beehive House, for example is not just a large home. It is an opulent mansion.

Where did they get the money to support those large families, ldsfaqs? How could Brigham Young afford the Beehive House and the Lion House (and his St. George house)? How could he afford one of them, let alone all of them?

I'll give you a hint. Have you ever played Monopoly and noticed that the person who volunteers to be the banker never runs out of money?
