Re: God's Promise to Send Elijah before the Second Coming
Yea, well you should look up how many translations use Elias instead of Elijah. Are all those translators ignorant also? Some of the dictionaries state that some of the verses mean Elijah, but on the others they don't, but still use Elias, and some of the commentaries say forerunner. Obviously, Jesus was referring to John the Baptist, and His name is not Elias or Elijah for that matter! So, obviously the name had another meaning!

gdemetz you (like Mormons generally) are at odds with more than 2,000 years of Biblical scholarship going all the way back to the LXX.
Elias (/ɨˈlaɪ.əs/) is the Latin transliteration of the Greek name Ἠλίας, which in turn is the Hellenized form of the Hebrew: אליהו, Eliyahu, meaning "Yahweh is my God".[1] Another form of Eliyahu in English is Elijah.
The name belonged most notably to Elijah ( /ɨˈlaɪdʒə/),[2] the Hebrew prophet. In the King James Version of the Bible, "Elias" is used in the New Testament as the English translation of the Greek name for this prophet.

I've read all that, and I'm sure that Campbell, Joseph Smith, as well as all those translators knew that also, but they were alos aware that John the Baptist was not Elijah, so they knew that it meant much more than you guys can apparently see!

Have you pondered why nobody but you can see what you see?

Please read the quote of Mark Twain in my previous comment...
The Swedish one, and yes, its translators are inconsequent. Not ignorant, because they knew some language...
The Spanish and Portuguese use Elías (take note of accent on í !). And they use it in the New Testament and in the Old Testament. No Elijah.
The Tagalog uses Elias. One name for Old Testament and New Testament.

gdemetz, Elijah does not mean "forerunner" in Greek, Hebrew, or any other language. It means "Yahweh is my God." Hence the -jah in his name.
אליהו -- Elijah
יהוה -- Yahweh
You can see clearly in the name Elijah (read right-to-left): יהו at the end (beginning) of אליהו, i.e. (יהו(ה
John the Baptist is called "forerunner" or prodromos in Greek.

I know that. I have seen that many times already. Yes, I also know that John the Baptist was known as a forerunner, and I believe that is what Christ was referring to.

How does a person know if they have the gift of the Holy Ghost or whether they are just self delusional?

That's hard to explain. I guess someone just needs to have that experience.
