That's a good question, and, honestly right now I don't know the answer, but I want to look into that more.

Gdemetz, I recommend you research the topc before making bold claims like this to people who have researched it in depth.
Try Grant Palmers "an insiders view of Mormon origins".
“We look to not only the spiritual but also the temporal, and we believe that a person who is impoverished temporally cannot blossom spiritually.”
Keith McMullin - Counsellor in Presiding Bishopric

I am not denying it. It was an old English custom (scrying) which Joseph copied as a very young boy. Joseph himself admitted that he was not perfect am felt saddened by some of his follies of youth, but to use youthful imperfections like that to try to demean his character is to me tabloid material, and it does nothing to take away from the fact that God used him as a prophets, and even turned his weakness into strength! If one is looking for absolute perfection in a prophet or an apostle, then I am afraid that he is setting himself up for disappointment!

Now here's your problem.
The stone he used for scrying is the stone he used for translating the Book of Mormon.

One of the contridictions I find in Book of Mormon is this

God himself is increasing and progressing in knowledge, power, and dominion, and will do so, worlds without end." Wilford Woodruff, Journal of Discourses Vol. 6:120

it contradicts Wilford Woodruff who says God is not Omniscience While Book of Mormon says God is Omniscience

2 Nephi 9:20 O how great the holiness of our God! For he knoweth all things, and there is not anything save he knows it.
Justice = Getting what you deserve
Mercy = Not getting what you deserve
Grace = Getting what you can never deserve
