Am I a TBM?
Hello,
In the thread "gnat straining and the apologist" drifting and tobin were discussing whether or not he was a TBM and for some reason I got drawn into the discussion. Anyway that caused me to think about it for a few days and I was wondering if I am a TBM or not, and what are the earmarks of a TBM.
On the plus side, I don't believe there should be any priestcraft (individuals promoting themselves as lights to the world), I believe in the gospel as the gospel is defined by Jesus in the Book of Mormon, and I believe in obeying the teaching of Lehi's dream of holding on to the rod of iron (word of God) which would have included the 1st 5 books of the Bible.
On the negative side, I no longer believe in its historicity. Now that I believe in reincarnation I no longer believe in the hell fire and brimstone the the Book of Mormon teaches.

I don't think it is important to be a TBM as much as a truth seeker and follower of God. Do what God tells you to do and believe and you'll be fine. Your salvation isn't between you and the Mormon Church. It is between you and Jesus Christ.

Re: Am I a TBM?
the fact that you used the word 'historicity' in a sentence means that you're not a TBM.

A True Believing Mormon could be an orthodox Mormon, a NOMish Mormon or even a Birchite Mormon.
A True Blue Mormon however, indicates a state of hypoxia in which vital brain functions have been comprimised. This person by default would not be a NOMish Mormon.
Hope that helps.

Not a Democrat or other liberal. Too much doctrinal conflict and actual opposition to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Up to now, I didn't find anything in the
- Bible
- Book of Mormon
- D&C
about parties. Democrat (or called something as such, see KDNP), republican (what does that word mean, in Hungarian or German?) or socialist. Or whatever party named randomly.
Christ - and his disciples - didn't know these words. They were lucky...
by the way in the original text there are no asterisks...Life of Brian wrote:Brian: "Excuse me. Are you the Judean People's Front?"
Reg: "“F” off! We're the People's Front of Judea"

Hello moksha,
Orthodox according to dictionary.com:
1. of, pertaining to, or conforming to the approved form of any doctrine, philosophy, ideology, etc.
2. of, pertaining to, or conforming to beliefs, attitudes, or modes of conduct that are generally approved.
3.customary or conventional, as a means or method; established.
4.sound or correct in opinion or doctrine, especially theological or religious doctrine.
5.conforming to the Christian faith as represented in the creeds of the early church.
Puting most of the emphisis on 1 and 2 an orthodox Mormon would be one who holds to the belief of a church which claims a relation with the Book of Mormon. This organization may or may not actually adhere to the teachings of the Book of Mormon. Thus this person would more accurately be described as a true blue (name of church).
>>>A True Blue Mormon however, indicates a state of hypoxia in which vital brain functions have been comprimised.<<<
This has to do with how you are defining tbm, but I think a lot of it has to do with either not knowing or not adhereing to critical thinking skills. For example just because the Book of Mormon may be an actual historical record (I don't believe it is) doesn't necesarily mean that the LDS church is anything special. In other words A being true doesn't necesarily imply B.
May all your naps be joyous occasions.

No need for a direct mention. One merely compares with doctrine. Democrats are probably the largest group of Mormons who claim to be believing Mormons but aren't.
