The Thief went to the Third Heaven

Post by _Mittens »

Hebrews 3:7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,
15 “Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

Hebrews 4: “Today, if you will hear His voice,

Do not harden your hearts.”

Hebrews 5: 5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him:
“You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.”
Zech 9:12 Return to the stronghold, You prisoners of hope. Even today I declare That I will restore double to you.
Jesus not in Paradise that Day
Rev 2:7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”’
Revelation 22: 1 “And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”
John 20:17 “Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’”

John 19:31 “Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32 Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. 35 And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. 36 For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken.” 37 And again another Scripture says, “They shall look on Him whom they pierced.”

The thief did not die that day, Day ends at sunset in Bible

Lev 23: 32 “It shall be to you a sabbath of solemn rest, and you shall afflict your souls; on the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall celebrate your sabbath.”

2 Corinthians 12

12: It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: 2I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven.

What does it mean when the Bible refers to the Third Heaven?
At the time of ancient Israel they did not have as complete an understanding of the universe as we do today. So they wrote in terms with which they were familiar. The Jews spoke of three heavens. The first heaven consisted of the the earth atmosphere where the clouds and birds were. The second heaven was where the sun, stars, and moon was. The third heaven was the dwelling place of God. When Paul said he was caught up to the third heaven (2 Cor. 12:2), he was referring to the very dwelling place of God.

The First Heaven: Earth Atmosphere [Rakia] Hebrew[/u

]• Deut. 11:17 -- Then the LORD's anger will burn against you, and he will shut the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce....
• Deut. 28:12 -- The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands.
• Judges 5:4 -- "O LORD, when you went out from Seir, when you marched from the land of Edom, the earth shook, the heavens poured, the clouds poured down water.
• Acts 14:17 -- "Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons;...

[u]The Second Heaven: Outer Space [Shamayim] Hebrew[/u

]• Psalm 19:4,6 -- In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun... It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other;...
• Jeremiah 8:2 -- They will be exposed to the sun and the moon and all the stars of the heavens which they have loved and served....
• Isaiah 13:10 -- The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light.

[u]The Third Heaven: God's Dwelling Place [ Shemi Hashamayim] Hebrew

• 1 Kings 8:30 (phrase repeated numerous times in following verses) -- then hear from heaven, your dwelling place...
• Psalm 2:4 -- The One enthroned in heaven laughs; The LORD scoffs at them.
• Matthew 5:16 -- In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
The highest heaven, the third heaven is indicated by the reference to the Throne of God being the highest heaven:
1 Kings 8:27 -- "But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you.
• Deut. 10:14 -- To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.

The bit above I don't get... near the end I almost did, Because it almost mentioned something but then you lost me again?
You seem to be back to your BOT style 'Ctrl_C' + 'Ctrl_V' again.

The bit below I do get, well to an extent.

Mktavish wrote:So a thief can go to the third heaven? And that's the same place as god. According to this bunch of babble anyways.

I think though , we are seeing a good evidence that Jesus did not actually die. Therefore no need of resurection.

I think we could chalk this grouping of words up to a very distraught and confused bunch of people ... especially the one that would group them together. Because they make no Freaking sense!!!

They make complete sense to me or I wouldn't have compiled them.

I agree with you Mktavish! I have no idea where Mittens gets some of this stuff! The heavens and glories are distinctly defined in D & C 76 and it is consistent with 1 Corinthians 15. These were both written by inspired prophets of God, and one of the (Paul} was actually taken up to this heaven and heard "unspeakable things," things which a recent thief would never be able to witness!

The problem is, gdemetz, that you just don't want to understand these explanations since they conflict greatly with what you have decided to believe as taught by Mormonism. The reality of ancient understanding of how the creation is broken down into three heavens is certainly simplistic by today's larger understanding, but that is the way it was understood at the time of Paul....but you prefer to believe in Joseph Smith's explanation rather than any other.

No Albion, the problem is that your viewpoint is based on man made doctrine which is totally unscriptural! You can not show me from the Bible or any other scripture what you claim, and it is not consistent with what 1 Corinthians 15 or what D & C 76 teaches!

Why wouldn't the thief witness the Third Heaven where God dwells when he went there ?
