Cook's description ignores those who become more committed due to guilt, as well as many who become less committed due to other problems like church history, and nothing to do with sin. Those would take away from the message he wanted to communicate which is not accurate, but I am sure he is just repeating what he has been taught through his life.

does not say it is widespread across the Church, just that it is widespread...a reasonable conclusion is that he is speaking generally.

Your second is that you still haven't provided any evidence of any kind to support the claim that Church members become less committed predominantly because if their own "unkindness, violence, and domestic abuse...sexual immorality and impure thoughts...".
