Leviticus 7
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
7 `And this [is] a law of the guilt-offering: it [is] most holy;
2 in the place where they slaughter the burnt-offering they do slaughter the guilt-offering, and its blood [one] doth sprinkle on the altar round about,
3 and all its fat he bringeth near out of it, the fat tail, and the fat which is covering the inwards,
4 and the two kidneys, and the fat which [is] on them, which [is] on the flanks, and the redundance above the liver (beside the kidneys he doth turn it aside);
5 and the priest hath made them a perfume on the altar, a fire-offering to Jehovah; it [is] a guilt-offering.
6 `Every male among the priests doth eat it; in the holy place it is eaten -- it [is] most holy;
7 as [is] a sin-offering, so [is] a guilt-offering; one law [is] for them; the priest who maketh atonement by it -- it is his.
8 `And the priest who is bringing near any man's burnt-offering, the skin of the burnt-offering which he hath brought near, it is the priest's, his own;
9 and every present which is baked in an oven, and every one done in a frying-pan, and on a girdel, [is] the priest's who is bringing it near; it is his;
10 and every present, mixed with oil or dry, is for all the sons of Aaron -- one as another.
11 `And this [is] a law of the sacrifice of the peace-offerings which [one] bringeth near to Jehovah:
12 if for a thank-offering he bring it near, then he hath brought near with the sacrifice of thank-offering unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and thin unleavened cakes anointed with oil, and of fried flour cakes mixed with oil;
13 besides the cakes, fermented bread he doth bring near [with] his offering, besides the sacrifice of thank-offering of his peace-offerings;
14 and he hath brought near out of it one of the whole offering -- a heave-offering to Jehovah; to the priest who is sprinkling the blood of the peace-offerings -- it is his;
15 as to the flesh of the sacrifice of the thank-offering of his peace-offerings, in the day of his offering it is eaten; he doth not leave of it till morning.
16 `And if the sacrifice of his offering [is] a vow or free-will offering, in the day of his bringing near his sacrifice it is eaten; and on the morrow also the remnant of it is eaten;
17 and the remnant of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day with fire is burnt;
18 and if any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace-offerings be really eaten on the third day, it is not pleasing; for him who is bringing it near it is not reckoned; it is an abominable thing, and the person who is eating of it his iniquity doth bear.
19 `And the flesh which cometh against any unclean thing is not eaten; with fire it is burnt; as to the flesh, every clean one doth eat of the flesh;
20 and the person who eateth of the flesh of the sacrifice of the peace-offerings which [are] Jehovah's, and his uncleanness upon him, even that person hath been cut off from his people.
21 `And when a person cometh against any thing unclean, of the uncleanness of man, or of the uncleanness of beasts, or of any unclean teeming creature, and hath eaten of the flesh of the sacrifice of the peace-offerings which [are] Jehovah's, even that person hath been cut off from his people.'
22 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
23 `Speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, Any fat of ox and sheep and goat ye do not eat;
24 and the fat of a carcase, and the fat of a torn thing is prepared for any work, but ye do certainly not eat it;
25 for whoever eateth the fat of the beast, of which [one] bringeth near a fire-offering to Jehovah, even the person who eateth hath been cut off from his people.
26 `And any blood ye do not eat in all your dwellings, of fowl, or of beast;
27 any person who eateth any blood, even that person hath been cut off from his people.'
28 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
29 `Speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, He who is bringing near the sacrifice of his peace-offerings to Jehovah doth bring in his offering to Jehovah from the sacrifice of his peace-offerings;
30 his own hands do bring in the fire-offerings of Jehovah, the fat beside the breast, it he doth bring in with the breast, to wave it -- a wave-offering before Jehovah.
31 `And the priest hath made perfume with the fat on the altar, and the breast hath been Aaron's and his sons;
32 and the right leg ye do make a heave-offering to the priest of the sacrifices of your peace-offerings;
33 he of the sons of Aaron who is bringing near the blood of the peace-offerings, and the fat, his is the right leg for a portion.
34 `For the breast of the wave-offering, and the leg of the heave-offering, I have taken from the sons of Israel, from the sacrifices of their peace-offerings, and I give them to Aaron the priest, and to his sons, by a statute age-during, from the sons of Israel.'
35 This [is] the anointing of Aaron, and the anointing of his sons out of the fire-offerings of Jehovah, in the day he hath brought them near to act as priest to Jehovah,
36 which Jehovah hath commanded to give to them in the day of His anointing them, from the sons of Israel -- a statute age-during to their generations.
37 This [is] the law for burnt-offering, for present, and for sin-offering, and for guilt-offering, and for consecrations, and for a sacrifice of the peace-offerings,
38 which Jehovah hath commanded Moses in Mount Sinai, in the day of his commanding the sons of Israel to bring near their offerings to Jehovah, in the wilderness of Sinai.

I guess I don't mind being called a 'creation', but 'creature' has some negative connotations.

I find it a little comical when you use the old, well-worn argument that a watch implies a watch maker so the universe implies a maker as well. Very different things.

Sorry, If I am to worship God, I will need a good reason to do that.

Fair enough. I am quite comfortable not knowing God if I need to abandon reason to do it.

I have had my share of calamities (maybe more than my share). Which God would you like me to worship? There are around 21 major religions in the world (depending on who is counting... I did a Google) and thousands of sects and minor religions. some with multiple Gods. How am I to choose? I'm sure you are a dandy fellow, but why should I choose your God over all the others?
Your suggestion works for all Gods of all religions as well as Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy.
It seems that faith is something that you require and is a major element of your personality. I think that is just fine. Personally, I don't need faith to ease my insecurities. I'm happy to take the world as it is.

I feel that you have been given light from the only God. You have the Bible and you have the history of the Church from the time of the Apostles until now. And you have the prophetic enlightenment of the nation of Israel. People no longer worship the very human superman Zeus. We know the history surrounding Santa and actually the Saint would be rather embarrassed by the attention he gets. We know that something never originates from nothing, so the big bang theorists have an eternity to rationalize but no logical solution without God.

Hi Nipper!
I also have the Gita, the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Tao Te Ching, the Bardo Thodol and many others to choose from. Why should I choose the Bible (old and new testaments) over the others?
If you take the time to read them you will find that they are all at least as compelling as the Bible and won't put you to sleep in the same way the Bible does.
While I have enjoyed reading them all, I don't profess a belief in any of them as a whole. They all do have some riveting philosophy to offer, though.
LittleNipper wrote:And you have the prophetic enlightenment of the nation of Israel.
You must mean the current Nation of Israel since there was no such thing in ancient Judea. The Kingdom of Israel did once exist, but that went away with the Greek and later Roman occupations.
The current Nation of Israel's wisdom hasn't impressed me too much lately.

Hundreds of millions worship the Hindu pantheon. Hundreds of millions revere the Lord Buddha. Millions still worship Zoroaster. Why would you think that you are smarter than these millions?
LittleNipper wrote:We know the history surrounding Santa and actually the Saint would be rather embarrassed by the attention he gets.
Yet millions of children are taught by their parents to believe in him. Shouldn't that make you think a bit about your own beliefs?

You are posing a philosophical question (good for you)!
My viewpoint is that we do know that something does originate from nothing. Your belief is that it was God. Science skips your first step and goes directly to the universe. It's no harder to believe that the universe started spontaneously then to believe that God did.

And Buddha is a very interesting person who offered a good way to live, but cannot offer salvation for one's imperfection. Hinduism is made up of many gods and has kept people in caste systems, controlled and poor. Oddly enough, many Hindi come to the United States to escape what their religion has established in India. They also love Christmas decorations---I might add and this has given me opportunities to witness for Christ in a very non-threatening way. I was not taught to believe in Santa but was told that Santa represents the joy of the holiday. There are many people who can look back and see God directing their lives --- I am one. There is nothing that spontaneously erupts into being today and so there is no rational or scientific rational reason to believe it ever happened in the past.

As I understand it, Buddha taught that all souls are perfect like a cut jewel. Needing no additional perfection other than a little dusting off once in a while. No redemption or salvation necessary. Just learning and understanding. I kind of like that idea.

I've known more than a few Hindus (mostly doctors and nurses due to my profession). I don't think I've ever met a Hindu that has converted to Christianity. Hindus seem to be very devout in their beliefs. There are many Hindus that reject the caste system.
Mahatma Gandhi was very much against the caste system and is revered by just about all Hindus. The Hindus I know didn't move here to escape their religion. Just to improve their economic prospects. I've had some fascinating conversations with many of them.

Then you are an exception.
LittleNipper wrote:There are many people who can look back and see God directing their lives --- I am one.
I think that's great for you. Very many others do not. God directing one's life might be a comforting thought, but there are so many lives that end in needless tragedy that it's hard to believe that a benevolent God is directing things.

Back to philosophy. Did God always exist? Do you realize what 'always' means? We're not talking about a million years or a trillion or a googleplex. It's an infinite line going back in time forever. What was God doing forever until he decided to create the universe? Why is a God that exists infinitely more believable than the big bang?

Since God created everything, He also created time. My take is that God IS and always will be, and then in the beginning, God created time. From that point foward we have history. And God already knows how His story will unfold. The truth of the matter is that I see God working in the US today. He is not happy with how this country has become and we are reaping exactly what the Bible says. I see it as plain as the handwritting on the wall. The farther we stray from God's truths, the more we become a third world nation. In fact, third world nations are beginning to flourish as they draw from the Bible. So there is more to prove that God exists than mere words in a book. Look at Greece, look at Rome, look at Spain ---- will the US pan out any differently as it is now headed?

Re: Bible verse by verse
This is my take on Leviticus 7
The instructions for the guilt offering is most holy. The animal sacrificed as a guilt offering must be slaughtered at the place where the burnt offerings are slaughtered, and its blood must be splattered against all sides of the altar. The priest will then offer all its fat on the altar, as a special gift presented to the Lord. This is the guilt offering. Any male from a priest’s family may eat the meat. It must be eaten in a sacred place, being holy. The same instructions apply to both the guilt offering and the sin offering. Both belong to the priest who uses them to purify someone, making that person right with the Lord. In the case of the burnt offering, the priest may keep the hide of the sacrificed animal. Any grain offering that has been baked in an oven, prepared in a pan, or cooked on a griddle belongs to the priest who presents it. All other grain offerings, whether made of dry flour or flour moistened with olive oil, are to be shared equally among all the priests, the descendants of Aaron.
If one presents a peace offering as an expression of thanksgiving, the usual animal sacrifice must be accompanied by various kinds of bread made without yeast—thin cakes mixed with olive oil, wafers spread with oil, and cakes made of choice flour mixed with olive oil. This peace offering of thanksgiving must also be accompanied by loaves of bread made with yeast. One of each kind of bread must be presented as a gift to the Lord. It will then belong to the priest who splatters the blood of the peace offering against the altar. The meat of the peace offering of thanksgiving must be eaten on the same day it is offered. None of it may be saved for the next morning.
If an offering is to fulfill a vow or as a voluntary offering, the meat must be eaten on the same day the sacrifice is offered, but whatever is left over may be eaten on the second day. Any meat left over until the third day must be completely burned up. If any of the meat from the peace offering is eaten on the third day, the person who presented it will not be accepted by the Lord, receiving no credit for offering it. The meat will be contaminated; if you eat it, you will be punished for your sin. Meat that touches anything ceremonially unclean may not be eaten; it must be completely burned up. The rest of the meat may be eaten, but only by people who are ceremonially clean. If ceremonially unclean, eating meat from a peace offering presented to the Lord, as well as, having touched anything unclean (whether it is human defilement or an unclean animal or any other unclean, detestable thing) eating meat from a peace offering presented to the Lord, will be cut one off from the community.
The people of Israel must never eat fat, whether from cattle, sheep, or goats. The fat of an animal found dead or torn to pieces by wild animals must never be eaten, though it may be used for any other purpose. Anyone who eats fat from an animal presented as a special gift to the Lord will be cut off from the community. No matter where you live, you must never consume the blood of any bird or animal. Anyone who consumes blood will be cut off.
When presenting a peace offering to the Lord, bring part of it as a gift to the Lord. Present it to the Lord with ones own hands as a special gift to the Lord. Bring the fat of the animal, together with the breast, and lift up the breast as a special offering to the Lord. The priest will burn the fat on the altar, but the breast will belong to Aaron and his descendants. Give the right thigh of the peace offering to the priest as a gift. The right thigh must always be given to the priest who offers the blood and the fat of the peace offering. This is the permanent right of Aaron and his descendants to share in the peace offerings brought by the people of Israel. The Lord gave these instructions to Moses on Mount Sinai when he commanded the Israelites to present their offerings to the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai.

And nothing before that? Just God (a temporal) playing solitaire?

You have a bit of a conundrum there, Nipper. If God already knows how his story will unfold, why would God be unhappy with this country or any country? Things are just going as planned.

Look at Greece, look at Rome, look at Spain ---- will the US pan out any differently as it is now headed?
I see things quite differently. This country is doing pretty well and the economy is improving, daily. Greece, Italy and Spain are all very Christian countries. If you are talking about ancient Rome, the Roman Empire went into decline after it made Christianity it's official religion.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

God is perfect and triune. One God in three persons. But again, I believe you are thinking in terms of time. God knows, but we do not. God is teaching those who will accept Him. Actually Ancient Rome began to decline faster as it corrupted Christainity, making it a system of works and the incorporation of classical mythology, coupled with pagan ritualism and authoritarianism.
