Man, god was a huge jerk to Job. Makin' deals with the devil to torture him. Rude.

Yeah. Jerk move, God. You don't see Thor or Krishna or Lamagra* pulling that crap with their followers.

Surprise, surprise, there is no divine mandate for the Church to discuss and portray its history accurately.

The story of Job was repulsive me from the minute on when I first read it.
I was 8 or 9 then.

To destroy the whole life of a human being only to win a wager --- and it is called scripture...

- To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin. - Cardinal Bellarmine at the trial of Galilei

Well, I'm sorry --- but there was never a time in your life that you asked God, "Why me?" Or do you simply realize you deserve everything that happens to you, and Job was so much a better person than you are? Now remember that everything that happened to Job was what Satan wanted to do to Job. God set the parameter (do not take his life). But it is Satan, the guy all atheists seem to love and cannot wait to go to be with, that despises and abuses poor Job.

God is composing a book and wants to teach us something. In fact Job is considered a TYPE of "Christ" a representation of Him. What is happening to Job is what will happen to Jesus in a much worse way. Go back and reread the book in that light and perhaps you will understand...

The reality is that a parent would not read this to a young child. But the fact remains that many people behave and lust exactly as in this tale of Oholah and Oholibah but hypocritically do not feel that the Bible should expose their perversion for what it is.

Oh, so Christians are allowed to read porn as long as it's special porn that's specifically intended to expose porn.

Oddly enough, the Jews traditionally were not to read the Song of Solomon until the age of THIRTY. The story is very honest and forthright. Pornography is being disgusting for the sole purpose of perverse pleasure and amusement.

 That is funny!

Now remember that everything that happened to Job was what Satan wanted to do to Job. God set the parameter (do not take his life).

Wow. How super nice of god to ALLOW satan to do everything and anything to his #1 guy except kill him. So, gang rape? Sure! Slice him up? Why not! MURDER ALL OF HIS FAMILY!?!?! Why, yes, that would be a-okay with god.

God condoned the MURDER of all of Job's family members as some kind of sick, twisted test. That is messed up!!!

But it is Satan, the guy all atheists seem to love and cannot wait to go to be with, that despises and abuses poor Job.

Uh, hate to break it to ya, but atheists don't believe satan exists. And though you may say it is satan that actually does the bad things to Job, it is god that allows it in order to win a bet.

Done. Still a horrible story. It was never intended to be taken literally. It's ridiculous. Oh, and god didn't compose the Bible. Humans did.

Save your apologies for the people of Fukushima, 20,000 of whom died as a result of the earthquake and subsequent tsunami on 11 March, 2011. Are you honestly suggesting they're somehow responsible for what happened to them?

And what about the 230,000 who died in Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia on 27 December, 2004 due to an even larger earthquake and tsunami? Are they also somehow responsible for what happened to them?

LittleNipper wrote:Or do you simply realize you deserve everything that happens to you, and Job was so much a better person than you are?
See above.

LittleNipper wrote:Now remember that everything that happened to Job was what Satan wanted to do to Job.
Irrelevant.

LittleNipper wrote:God set the parameter (do not take his life). But it is Satan, the guy all atheists seem to love and cannot wait to go to be with, that despises and abuses poor Job.
Yes, Yahweh was ultimately responsible for what happened to Job, not Satan.

LittleNipper wrote:God is composing a book and wants to teach us something.
No, Yahweh doesn't compose books. Human beings compose pseudopigraphical narratives and then attribute them to Yahweh.

LittleNipper wrote:In fact Job is considered a TYPE of "Christ" a representation of Him.
No, that's nothing more than a personal interpretation that you've superimposed upon Job.

LittleNipper wrote:What is happening to Job is what will happen to Jesus in a much worse way. Go back and reread the book in that light and perhaps you will understand...
I have. You're mistaken if you think I've never read it simply because I don't agree with you.

Oh, so in other words, Christians (and Jews who are thirty years old) are allowed to read porn as long as it's special porn that's specifically intended to expose more porn. Thanks for the clarification.

LittleNipper wrote:The story is very honest and forthright.
Yes, it's an honest and forthright portrayal of sexual subject matter for (among other things) the purpose of sexual arousal. In other words, it's Biblical porn.

LittleNipper wrote:Pornography is being disgusting for the sole purpose of perverse pleasure and amusement.
No, it's not. If it were, things like fart jokes would have to be considered pornographic, but it isn't, so they're not. In common usage, pornography is the portrayal of sexual subject matter for the purpose of sexual arousal (see above). Therefore the Song of Solomon is Biblical porn, with a lot of literary bells and whistles thrown in.

Nipper, you're entitled to your own opinion but that doesn't mean you get to invent false definitions for words that already exist. (This is yet another example of the type of behavior that Mormons like to call "lying for the Lord".)

Nipper, why do the Bible Belt states consume more porn--especially gay porn--than the rest of the US?
