Song of Solomon 3:1-11

All night long in bed I dreamed of the one my heart loves but did not find him.

I will get up now and walk about the city, through its streets and squares; I will search for the one my heart loves but didn't find him.

The watchmen discover me as they made their rounds. “Have you seen the one my heart love?”

I hardly passed them when I found that one. I held him and would not let him go until I had brought him to my mother’s house, to the room of her who conceived me.

Daughters of Jerusalem, I tell you through gazelles and by the does of the field ---- Don't arouse or awaken love until it wishes to transpire.

Who is this arriving from the wilderness like a column of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and incense made from all the spices of the merchant?

Look! It is Solomon’s hand carried transport, held by sixty warriors, the noblest of Israel, all of them bearing a sword, experienced in battle, prepared for any dark terrors.

King Solomon designed and had built this carrier; made of wood from Lebanon, posts of silver ---- base of gold.

Its seat was upholstered with purple, its interior inlaid with great care.

Daughters of Jerusalem, come out, and see. Look upon King Solomon wearing a crown. Crowned by his mother on his wedding day ----- his heart rejoiced.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 On my couch by night, I sought him whom my soul hath loved; I sought him, and I found him not!

2 -- Pray, let me rise, and go round the city, In the streets and in the broad places, I seek him whom my soul hath loved! -- I sought him, and I found him not.

3 The watchmen have found me, (Who are going round about the city), `Him whom my soul have loved saw ye?'

4 But a little I passed on from them, Till I found him whom my soul hath loved! I seized him, and let him not go, Till I brought him in unto the house of my mother -- And the chamber of her that conceived me.

5 I have adjured you, daughters of Jerusalem, By the roes or by the hinds of the field, Stir not up nor wake the love till she please!

6 Who [is] this coming up from the wilderness, Like palm-trees of smoke, Perfumed [with] myrrh and frankincense, From every powder of the merchant?

7 Lo, his couch, that [is] Solomon's, Sixty mighty ones [are] around it, Of the mighty of Israel,

8 All of them holding sword, taught of battle, Each his sword by his thigh, for fear at night.

9 A palanquin king Solomon made for himself, Of the wood of Lebanon,

10 Its pillars he made of silver, Its bottom of gold, its seat of purple, Its midst lined [with] love, By the daughters of Jerusalem.

11 Go forth, and look, ye daughters of Zion, On king Solomon, with the crown, With which his mother crowned him, In the day of his espousals, And in the day of the joy of his heart!

Song of Solomon 4:1-16

Look here, you are fair. Your eyes like doves under your veil. Your hair is as a row of the goats as seen at Mount Gilead,

Your teeth as a row of washed sheep. For all of them are perfectly matched, nnd a missing one is not among them.

As a thread of scarlet are your lips, and your language polite, as the work of the pomegranate is thy temple beneath your veil,

As the tower of David is your neck, built for a fortress, The chief of the great shields are hung on it.

Your two breasts as two fawns, Twins of a doe, that are eating among lilies.

Until the day breaks forth, And the shadows diminish, I will travel to the mountain of myrrh, And the hill of frankincense.

You all fair, my friend, And without blemishes. Come from Lebanon, my spouse,

Come from Lebanon, come in. Look from the top of Amana, the top of Shenir and Hermon, the habitations of lions, the mountains of leopards.

You have encouraged me, my sister-spouse, with one of your eyes, With a single chain upon your neck.

How wonderful have been your loves, my sister-spouse, How much better have been your loves than wine, And the fragrance of your perfume than any spice.

Your lips drop honey, O spouse, Honey and milk are under your tongue, And the fragrance of your garments as the cedar of Lebanon.

A private garden is my sister-spouse, A closed spring and a sealed fountain.

Your shoots are a paradise of pomegranates, with precious fruits,

Cypresses with nard -- nard and saffron, Cane and cinnamon, With all trees of frankincense, Myrrh and aloes, with all chief spices.

A fountain in the gardens, a well of living waters, flowing from Lebanon!

Awake, north wind, and blow south wind. Cause my garden to be aired, its spices to permeate. Let my beloved come to his garden, and consume its enjoyable fruits!

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Lo, thou [art] fair, my friend, lo, thou [art] fair, Thine eyes [are] doves behind thy veil, Thy hair as a row of the goats That have shone from mount Gilead,

2 Thy teeth as a row of the shorn ones That have come up from the washing, For all of them are forming twins, And a bereaved one is not among them.

3 As a thread of scarlet [are] thy lips, And thy speech [is] comely, As the work of the pomegranate [is] thy temple behind thy veil,

4 As the tower of David [is] thy neck, built for an armoury, The chief of the shields are hung on it, All shields of the mighty.

5 Thy two breasts [are] as two fawns, Twins of a roe, that are feeding among lilies.

6 Till the day doth break forth, And the shadows have fled away, I will get me unto the mountain of myrrh, And unto the hill of frankincense.

7 Thou [art] all fair, my friend, And a blemish there is not in thee. Come from Lebanon, O spouse,

8 Come from Lebanon, come thou in. Look from the top of Amana, From the top of Shenir and Hermon, From the habitations of lions, From the mountains of leopards.

9 Thou hast emboldened me, my sister-spouse, Emboldened me with one of thine eyes, With one chain of thy neck.

10 How wonderful have been thy loves, my sister-spouse, How much better have been thy loves than wine, And the fragrance of thy perfumes than all spices.

11 Thy lips drop honey, O spouse, Honey and milk [are] under thy tongue, And the fragrance of thy garments [Is] as the fragrance of Lebanon.

12 A garden shut up [is] my sister-spouse, A spring shut up -- a fountain sealed.

13 Thy shoots a paradise of pomegranates, With precious fruits,

14 Cypresses with nard -- nard and saffron, Cane and cinnamon, With all trees of frankincense, Myrrh and aloes, with all chief spices.

15 A fount of gardens, a well of living waters, And flowings from Lebanon!

16 Awake, O north wind, and come, O south, Cause my garden to breathe forth, its spices let flow, Let my beloved come to his garden, And eat its pleasant fruits!

Song of Solomon 5:1-16

[Him]
My sister, my bride, I arrive at my garden. I'm collecting my myrrh and spices. I'm eating my honeycomb along with honey. I'm drinking my wine as well as milk.

[Chorus]
Eat, friends, and drink, until you're full in love!

[She]
I 'm sleeping, but my heart is active. Listen! My darling is knocking!

[He]
Open for me, my sister, my love, my darling, my spotless one! For my hair is wet with dew, my hair with the moisture of the night.

[She]
I’ve removed my cloak; must I put it back on? I’ve washed my feet; must I soil them again? The man I love stretched his beseeching hand through the hole by the door-latch, and my heart became excited at the thought of him. I got up to open for the man I love. My hands were dripping with myrrh — pure myrrh dripped from my finger tips onto the bolt handle. I opened for my darling, but he had left. My heart had stopped as he spoke — I sought him, but I couldn’t find him; I called him without his response.

The watchmen walking their beat discovered me. They attacked me, hurt me, stole my cloak, such guardians of the walls!

I beg you, daughters of Jerusalem, that if you find the man I love, Please say that I'm sick with love.

[Chorus]
How does the man you love differ from others, you most beautiful of women ---- that you should entrust us?

[She]
The man I love glows and tanned; he stands out among 10,000. His head is as the finest gold; his curls --- wavy and black as a raven. His eyes are lively like doves by babbling brooks, the whites as milk and spread apart just so.

His cheeks are like spice beds, like banks of fragrant herbs. His lips are like lilies dripping with sweet myrrh.

His arms are struts of gold set with beryl, his body polished ivory adorned with sapphires.

His legs are like pillars of marble set on bases of pure gold. His appearance as imposing as the cedars of Lebanon.

His words are tenderness itself. He is totally desirable. This is my darling, and this is my friend, daughters of Jerusalem.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 I have come in to my garden, my sister-spouse, I have plucked my myrrh with my spice, I have eaten my comb with my honey, I have drunk my wine with my milk. Eat, O friends, drink, Yea, drink abundantly, O beloved ones!

2 I am sleeping, but my heart waketh: The sound of my beloved knocking! `Open to me, my sister, my friend, My dove, my perfect one, For my head is filled [with] dew, My locks [with] drops of the night.'

3 I have put off my coat, how do I put it on? I have washed my feet, how do I defile them?

4 My beloved sent his hand from the net-work, And my bowels were moved for him.

5 I rose to open to my beloved, And my hands dropped myrrh, Yea, my fingers flowing myrrh, On the handles of the lock.

6 I opened to my beloved, But my beloved withdrew -- he passed on, My soul went forth when he spake, I sought him, and found him not. I called him, and he answered me not.

7 The watchmen who go round about the city, Found me, smote me, wounded me, Keepers of the walls lifted up my veil from off me.

8 I have adjured you, daughters of Jerusalem, If ye find my beloved -- What do ye tell him? that I [am] sick with love!

9 What [is] thy beloved above [any] beloved, O fair among women? What [is] thy beloved above [any] beloved, That thus thou hast adjured us?

10 My beloved [is] clear and ruddy, Conspicuous above a myriad!

11 His head [is] pure gold -- fine gold, His locks flowing, dark as a raven,

12 His eyes as doves by streams of water, Washing in milk, sitting in fulness.

13 His cheeks as a bed of the spice, towers of perfumes, His lips [are] lilies, dropping flowing myrrh,

14 His hands rings of gold, set with beryl, His heart bright ivory, covered with sapphires,

15 His limbs pillars of marble, Founded on sockets of fine gold, His appearance as Lebanon, choice as the cedars.

16 His mouth is sweetness -- and all of him desirable, This [is] my beloved, and this my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem!

Song of Solomon 6:1-13
[Chorus]
Where is your beloved, you most lovely woman? Which way did He go, that we might seek Him?

[She]
My love descended to his garden, to the spice beds ----- tending his flock among the gardens and to pick lilies.

I belong to the man I love, and He's mine. He pastures His flock with the lilies.

[He]
You are as beautiful as Tirtzah (A Royal Gentile city), my love, as lovely as Jerusalem, but intimidating as an army marching in full array.
Turn your eyes from me, because they overwhelm me! Your hair is like a flock of goats moving down Gil‘ad.

Your teeth are like a flock of sheep that have just come up from being washed; perfectly matched, with none is missing.

Your cheeks are like luscious pomegranate split open beneath your veil.

There maybe 60 queens and 80 concubines, as well as numberless virgins; but my dove is perfectly unique, an only child, the darling of the one who bore her. The daughters see her and call her happy; Queens and concubines praise her.

“Who is this, sparkling as the dawn, fair as the moon, bright as the sun” — though intimidating as an army marching in full array

[She]
I was down in the nut orchard to see the fresh green plants of the valley, to see if the vine was budding, or if the pomegranate trees bloomed.

Before I knew it, I found myself in a chariot, and with me a prince.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Whither hath thy beloved gone, O fair among women? Whither hath thy beloved turned, And we seek him with thee?

2 My beloved went down to his garden, To the beds of the spice, To delight himself in the gardens, and to gather lilies.

3 I [am] my beloved's, and my beloved [is] mine, Who is delighting himself among the lilies.

4 Fair [art] thou, my friend, as Tirzah, Comely as Jerusalem, Awe-inspiring as bannered hosts.

5 Turn round thine eyes from before me, Because they have made me proud. Thy hair [is] as a row of the goats, That have shone from Gilead,

6 Thy teeth as a row of the lambs, That have come up from the washing, Because all of them are forming twins, And a bereaved one is not among them.

7 As the work of the pomegranate [is] thy temple behind thy veil.

8 Sixty are queens, and eighty concubines, And virgins without number.

9 One is my dove, my perfect one, One she [is] of her mother, The choice one she [is] of her that bare her, Daughters saw, and pronounce her happy, Queens and concubines, and they praise her.

10 `Who [is] this that is looking forth as morning, Fair as the moon -- clear as the sun, Awe-inspiring as bannered hosts?'

11 Unto a garden of nuts I went down, To look on the buds of the valley, To see whither the vine had flourished, The pomegranates had blossomed --

12 I knew not my soul, It made me -- chariots of my people Nadib.

13 Return, return, O Shulammith! Return, return, and we look upon thee. What do ye see in Shulammith?

Song of Solomon 7:1-13

[He]
How beautiful are your sandaled feet --- daughter of princes! The curves of your thighs are like ornaments made by a skilled craftsman.

Your navel is like a goblet that never lacks spiced wine. Your tummy is heaped wheat encircled by lilies.

Your two breasts are like two fawns or twins of a gazelle.

Your neck is like a tower of ivory, your eyes like the pools in Heshbon by the gate of Bat-Rabbim, your nose like a tower in Lebanon overlooking Damascus.

You hold your head like Mt. Carmel, and your hair is like deep purple cloth — the king is held captive in its tresses.

How lovely you are, sweetheart, how charming and delightful!

Your appearance is stately as a palm tree, with its fruit clusters your breasts.

I said, “I will climb up into that palm tree, I will take hold of its branches.” May your breasts be as bunches of grapes, your breath as fragrant as citrus,

and your mouth like the finest wine.

[She]
May the wine go straight to the man I love
and gently move the lips of those who are asleep.

I belong to my darling, and He desires me alone.

Come, my darling, let’s go to the country and spend the nights in quaint villages.

We’ll get up early and go to the vineyards to view the budding vines, to see if their flowers have opened, or if the pomegranate trees are blooming. There I will give you my love.

Mandrakes are spreading their perfume, all kinds of choice fruits are at our doors, fruits both early and mature, my darling, which I have saved just for you.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 As the chorus of `Mahanaim.' How beautiful were thy feet with sandals, O daughter of Nadib. The turnings of thy sides [are] as ornaments, Work of the hands of an artificer.

2 Thy waist [is] a basin of roundness, It lacketh not the mixture, Thy body a heap of wheat, fenced with lilies,

3 Thy two breasts as two young ones, twins of a roe,

4 Thy neck as a tower of the ivory, Thine eyes pools in Heshbon, near the gate of Bath-Rabbim, Thy face as a tower of Lebanon looking to Damascus,

5 Thy head upon thee as Carmel, And the locks of thy head as purple, The king is bound with the flowings!

6 How fair and how pleasant hast thou been, O love, in delights.

7 This thy stature hath been like to a palm, And thy breasts to clusters.

8 I said, `Let me go up on the palm, Let me lay hold on its boughs, Yea, let thy breasts be, I pray thee, as clusters of the vine, And the fragrance of thy face as citrons,

9 And thy palate as the good wine --' Flowing to my beloved in uprightness, Strengthening the lips of the aged!

10 I [am] my beloved's, and on me [is] his desire.

11 Come, my beloved, we go forth to the field,

12 We lodge in the villages, we go early to the vineyards, We see if the vine hath flourished, The sweet smelling-flower hath opened. The pomegranates have blossomed, There do I give to thee my loves;

13 The mandrakes have given fragrance, And at our openings all pleasant things, New, yea, old, my beloved, I laid up for thee!

From The LDS Bible Dictionary:

Sometimes called Canticles (as in Latin) or Song of Songs (as in Hebrew). Whether Solomon is actually the author is doubtful. The composition has many beautiful phrases and lyrical prose, often quoted in nonreligious literature. The JST manuscript contains the note that “the Song of Solomon is not inspired scripture.” Both Jews and Christians have at times been reluctant to accept it into the canon of scripture because of its romantic content, but have permitted it on the basis of its being an allegory of God’s love for Israel and/or of the Church.

http://classic.scriptures.LDS.org/en/bd/s/94

From Encarta:

Both positive and negative forces were at work in the process of canonization. On the one hand, most of the decisions had already been made in practice: The Law, the Prophets, and most of the Writings had been serving as Scripture for centuries. Controversy developed around only a few books in the Writings, such as Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon (Songs). On the other hand, many other religious books, also claiming to be the word of God, were being written and circulated. These included the books in the present Protestant Apocrypha, some of the New Testament books, and many others. Consequently, the official action of establishing a Bible took place in response to a theological question: According to which books would Judaism define itself and its relationship to God?

I believe GOD has ordained exactly which writings are a part of HIS intended Holy Word. As such I believe the Song of Solomon has a specific place. Please see: http://www.mooneytheology.com/2013/02/t ... -view.html

God created both a perfect physical; as well, as spiritual love. Please see: http://www.ligonier.org/learn/articles/song-solomon/

Song of Solomon 8:1-14

I wish you were my brother, who nursed at my mother’s breast; then, if I met you outdoors, I could kiss you, and no one would look down on me.

I would bring you to my mother’s house, and she would instruct me. I would provide spiced wine to drink, fresh juice from my pomegranates.

His left arm placed under my head and his right arm entwines me.

I admonished you, daughters of Jerusalem, not to arouse love until it desires arousal!

[Chorus]
Who is this, arriving from the desert, leaning on her darling?

[He]
I awakened you under the apple tree. It was there that your mother conceived you; there she who gave birth conceived you.

[She]
Set me like a seal on your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as powerful as death, jealousy as cruel as hell; its flashes are flashes of fire, [as fierce as the] flame of God.

No amount of water can quench love. A deluge cannot drown it. If someone gave all the wealth in his house for love, he would gain contempt alone.

[Chorus]
We have a little sister; her breasts are yet undeveloped. So what should we do when she is asked for in marriage?

If she is a wall, we will build on her a palace of silver; and if she is a door, we will surround her with panels of cedar.

[She]
I am a wall, and my breasts are like towers; so in his view I am like one bringing peace.

Salomon had a vineyard at Baal-Hamon, and he handed the vineyard to caretakers; each of them paying for harvest a 1000 pieces of silver.

My vineyard is mine; I garden it, alone. You can have your 1000, Solomon and the fruit-caretakers, 200!

[He]
You who dwell in the garden, friends hear you. Let me hear also!

[She]
Run, my darling! Be like a gazelle or young stag on the spice mountains!

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Who doth make thee as a brother to me, Sucking the breasts of my mother? I find thee without, I kiss thee, Yea, they do not despise me,

2 I lead thee, I bring thee in unto my mother's house, She doth teach me, I cause thee to drink of the perfumed wine, Of the juice of my pomegranate,

3 His left hand [is] under my head, And his right doth embrace me.

4 I have adjured you, daughters of Jerusalem, How ye stir up, And how ye wake the love till she please!

5 Who [is] this coming from the wilderness, Hasting herself for her beloved? Under the citron-tree I have waked thee, There did thy mother pledge thee, There she gave a pledge [that] bare thee.

6 Set me as a seal on thy heart, as a seal on thine arm, For strong as death is love, Sharp as Sheol is jealousy, Its burnings [are] burnings of fire, a flame of Jah!

7 Many waters are not able to quench the love, And floods do not wash it away. If one give all the wealth of his house for love, Treading down -- they tread upon it.

8 We have a little sister, and breasts she hath not, What do we do for our sister, In the day that it is told of her?

9 If she is a wall, we build by her a palace of silver. And if she is a door, We fashion by her board-work of cedar.

10 I [am] a wall, and my breasts as towers, Then I have been in his eyes as one finding peace.

11 Solomon hath a vineyard in Baal-Hamon, He hath given the vineyard to keepers, Each bringeth for its fruit a thousand silverlings;

12 My vineyard -- my own -- is before me, The thousand [is] for thee, O Solomon. And the two hundred for those keeping its fruit. O dweller in gardens!

13 The companions are attending to thy voice, Cause me to hear. Flee, my beloved, and be like to a roe,

14 Or to a young one of the harts on mountains of spices!

You want proof of GOD? Imagine your own nation and what it experiences. And now you know the reason. EVERYTHING happens for a reason! There are no coincidences...

Isaiah 1:1-31

This is the vision of Amoz's son Isaiah. God revealed to Isaiah events that would happen to Judah and Jerusalem. Isaiah saw this during the era when Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah reigned in Judah.

Space and matter, hear this! I the Lord says:

I nurtured my children and helped them mature, but they have revolted.

A bull knows its master, and an ass knows where its owner feeds it. But Israel does not know ME. My Chosen haven't a clue.

What a sinful nation! Their guilt is like a heavy weight that they must drag about. They are evil, destructive children. They left the Lord and insult the Holy One of Israel. They rejected Him and treated Him like an outsider.

What good will it do continuously spanking you? You will continue to rebel. Your whole head and heart are already sick and tormented.

From the bottom of your feet to the top of your head, every part of your body is wounded, cut, with runny sores. You don't even clean or bandage them.

Your land is a wreak, and your cities are in flames. Your enemies have invaded your land, and foreigners are reaping its produce. One would imagine this is the result of foreigners.

The city of Jerusalem is now like an derelict shed left in a vineyard. It is like an old straw stall abandoned in a pickle field or like a city besieged.

If the Lord All-Powerful had not permitted a few survivors, we would have been destroyed completely like Sodom and Gomorrah. And that nearly happened!

You officials of Sodom, listen to the Lord’s proclamation. You people of Gomorrah, listen to God’s lesson.

The Lord says, “Why do you continue giving me all these gifts? I have had enough of your sacrifices of rams and the fat from well-fed animals. I don’t want the blood of those bulls, sheep, and goats.

When you people come to greet with me, you trample everything in my yard. Who told you to do this?

Don’t keep bringing me cheap sacrifices. I hate the incense you give me. I cannot stand your festivals for the New Moon, the Sabbath, and other special "holidays". I hate the evil parties you throw during those "holy" events together.

I hate your repetitious monthly meetings and councils. They have become boring to me, and I am tired of them.

When you raise your arms to pray to me, I will refuse to recognize you. You will say repetitious prayers, but I will refuse to listen because your hands are covered in blood.

Wash yourselves and make yourselves clean. Stop repeating the evil things I see you do. Stop doing wrong.

Learn to do good. Treat people honestly. Punish those who corrupt others. Speak up for the widows and orphans (being exclude and stolen from). Argue their cases for them in court.

I AM the LORD, speaking to you. Come, let’s discuss this. Even if your sins are as black as red dye, that stain can be removed and you will be as pure as wool that is as white as snow.

If you listen you me, you will enjoy the land.

But if you refuse to listen to my Word and rebel, your enemies will mess you up!

Look at Jerusalem. She was once a faithful city. What made her act like a prostitute? In the past, Jerusalem was filled with justice, and goodness should live there now. Instead, there resides murderers.

Once you were like pure silver, but now you are like the impurities that people toss out when the silver is purified. You are like good wine that has been diluted.

Your rulers are rebels and friends of connivers. They demand bribes and accept money for doing wrong. They tax to cheat people, and they don’t speak up for widows and orphans. They ignore their cries for help.

As a result, the Lord God All-Powerful, the Mighty One of Israel, says, “Look, I will get relief from my enemies. You will not cause me any more trouble.

People use lye to shine silver. Similarly, I will clean away all your errors. I will remove all the impurities from you.

I will bring back the kind of judges you had originally. Your counselors will be like those you once possessed. Then you will be called ‘The Good and Faithful City.’”

God is good and does what is right. He will rescue Zion and the people who return to him.

But all the criminals and sinners will be annihilated. Those who stopped following the Lord will be removed.

In the future, you will be ashamed of the totem poles and pagan gardens you chose to worship in,

You will be like an oak tree whose leaves are dying. You will be like a parched garden.

Powerful people will be like small, dry wood chips, and what they did will be like the sparks that start an inferno. These people and their works will be consumed, and no one will be able to extinguish that fire.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 The Visions of Isaiah son of Amoz, that he hath seen concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, For Jehovah hath spoken: Sons I have nourished and brought up, And they -- they transgressed against Me.

3 An ox hath known its owner, And an ass the crib of its master, Israel hath not known, My people hath not understood.

4 Ah, sinning nation, a people heavy [with] iniquity, A seed of evil doers, sons -- corrupters! They have forsaken Jehovah, They have despised the Holy One of Israel, They have gone away backward.

5 Wherefore are ye stricken any more? Ye do add apostacy! Every head is become diseased, and every heart [is] sick.

6 From the sole of the foot -- unto the head, There is no soundness in it, Wound, and bruise, and fresh smiting! They have not been closed nor bound, Nor have they softened with ointment.

7 Your land [is] a desolation, your cities burnt with fire, Your ground, before you strangers are consuming it, And a desolation as overthrown by strangers!

8 And left hath been the daughter of Zion, As a booth in a vineyard, As a lodge in a place of cucumbers -- as a city besieged.

9 Unless Jehovah of Hosts had left to us a remnant, Shortly -- as Sodom we had been, To Gomorrah we had been like!

10 Hear the word of Jehovah, ye rulers of Sodom, Give ear to the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah,

11 `Why to Me the abundance of your sacrifices? saith Jehovah, I have been satiated [with] burnt-offerings of rams, And fat of fatlings; And blood of bullocks, and lambs, And he-goats I have not desired.

12 When ye come in to appear before Me, Who hath required this of your hand, To trample My courts?

13 Add not to bring in a vain present, Incense -- an abomination it [is] to Me, New moon, and sabbath, calling of convocation! Rendure not iniquity -- and a restraint!

14 Your new moons and your set seasons hath My soul hated, They have been upon me for a burden, I have been weary of bearing.

15 And in your spreading forth your hands, I hide mine eyes from you, Also when ye increase prayer, I do not hear, Your hands of blood have been full.

16 Wash ye, make ye pure, Turn aside the evil of your doings, from before Mine eyes, Cease to do evil, learn to do good.

17 Seek judgment, make happy the oppressed, Judge the fatherless, strive [for] the widow.

18 Come, I pray you, and we reason, saith Jehovah, If your sins are as scarlet, as snow they shall be white, If they are red as crimson, as wool they shall be!

19 If ye are willing, and have hearkened, The good of the land ye consume,

20 And if ye refuse, and have rebelled, [By] the sword ye are consumed, For the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken.

21 How hath a faithful city become a harlot? I have filled it [with] judgment, Righteousness lodgeth in it -- now murderers.

22 Thy silver hath become dross, Thy drink polluted with water.

23 Thy princes [are] apostates, and companions of thieves, Every one loving a bribe, and pursuing rewards, The fatherless they judge not, And the plea of the widow cometh not to them.

24 Therefore -- the affirmation of the Lord -- Jehovah of Hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: Ah, I am eased of Mine adversaries, And I am avenged of Mine enemies,

25 And I turn back My hand upon thee, And I refine as purity thy dross, And I turn aside all thy tin,

26 And I give back thy judges as at the first, And thy counsellors as in the beginning, After this thou art called, `A city of righteousness -- a faithful city.'

27 Zion in judgment is redeemed, And her captivity in righteousness.

28 And the destruction of transgressors and sinners [is] together, And those forsaking Jehovah are consumed.

29 For [men] are ashamed because of the oaks That ye have desired, And ye are confounded because of the gardens That ye have chosen.

30 For ye are as an oak whose leaf is fading, And as a garden that hath no water.

31 And the strong hath been for tow, And his work for a spark, And burned have both of them together, And there is none quenching!

Isaiah 2:1-22

This is the word of Amoz's son Isaiah regarding Judah and Jerusalem:

In the later days the mountain of LORD's house will be established as the most important mountain. It will be regarded more highly than all the surrounding hills. And all gentiles will stream there.

Many nations will go and say, “Come, let’s go up to the mountain of God to the house of the God of Jacob! He will teach us about His ways, and we will walk at his direction.”
For out of Zion will go forth the Law, the word of God from Jerusalem.

He will judge the nations and arbitrate for many peoples. Then they will hammer their swords into plow-blades and their spears into pruning-knives. Nations will not raise swords at each other,
and they will no longer regard war.

Descendants of Jacob, come! Let’s live in God's light!

For you have abandoned your people of Jacob. Now they are filled from the east, full of sorcerers, like the Philistines; even the children of foreigners handle them!

Their land is full of silver and gold. They possess endless treasures. Their land is full of horses; They have no end of transportation.

Their land is full of idols. Everyone worships the work of his hands.

A person bows down, a man lowers himself — don’t forgive them!

Come unto the rock, hide in the dirt to escape the terror of God and the glory of His majesty.

The proud looks of man will be humiliated. The arrogance of men will be bent down. And when that time arrives, Only God will be exalted.

Yes, the God of Hosts has a day in store for all who are proud and lofty, for all who are lifted high to be humiliated.

All cedars of the Lebanon that are exulted. All the oaks of the Bashan;

All the high mountains, and hills that are lifted up;

Every high tower, every fortified wall;

All the ships of Tarshish, andevery luxurious vessel.

The pride of man will be bent down and his arrogance will be humiliated, on that day.
God alone will be exalted.

Idols will be completely removed.

People will hide in cracks in the rocks and holes in the ground to escape the terror of God in His glorious majesty, when He sets out to overthrow the earth.

On that day a man will grab his idols of silver and idols of gold, which they designed for themselves to worship, and throw them away to vermin!

People will hide in cracks in the rocks and holes in the ground to escape the terror of God in His glorious majesty, when He sets out to overthrow the earth.

Stop depending on man, who gasps for air — after all, what is his real value?

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 The thing that Isaiah son of Amoz hath seen concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

2 And it hath come to pass, In the latter end of the days, Established is the mount of Jehovah's house, Above the top of the mounts, And it hath been lifted up above the heights, And flowed unto it have all the nations.

3 And gone have many peoples and said, `Come, and we go up unto the mount of Jehovah, Unto the house of the God of Jacob, And He doth teach us of His ways, And we walk in His paths, For from Zion goeth forth a law, And a word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.

4 And He hath judged between the nations, And hath given a decision to many peoples, And they have beat their swords to ploughshares, And their spears to pruning-hooks, Nation doth not lift up sword unto nation, Nor do they learn any more -- war.

5 O house of Jacob, come, And we walk in the light of Jehovah.'

6 For Thou hast left Thy people, the house of Jacob. For they have been filled from the east, And [are] sorcerers like the Philistines, And with the children of strangers strike hands.

7 And its land is full of silver and gold, And there is no end to its treasures, And its land is full of horses, And there is no end to its chariots,

8 And its land is full of idols, To the work of its hands it boweth itself, To that which its fingers have made,

9 And the low boweth down, and the high is humbled, And Thou acceptest them not.

10 Enter into a rock, and be hidden in dust, Because of the fear of Jehovah, And because of the honour of His excellency.

11 The haughty eyes of man have been humbled, And bowed down hath been the loftiness of men, And set on high hath Jehovah alone been in that day.

12 For a day [is] to Jehovah of Hosts, For every proud and high one, And for every lifted up and low one,

13 And for all cedars of Lebanon, The high and the exalted ones, And for all oaks of Bashan,

14 And for all the high mountains, And for all the exalted heights,

15 And for every high tower, And for every fenced wall,

16 And for all ships of Tarshish, And for all desirable pictures.

17 And bowed down hath been the haughtiness of man, And humbled the loftiness of men, And set on high hath Jehovah alone been in that day.

18 And the idols -- they completely pass away.

19 And [men] have entered into caverns of rocks, And into caves of dust, Because of the fear of Jehovah, And because of the honour of His excellency, In His rising to terrify the earth.

20 In that day doth man cast his idols of silver, And his idols of gold, That they have made for him to worship, To moles, and to bats,

21 To enter into cavities of the rocks, And into clefts of the high places, Because of the fear of Jehovah, And because of the honour of His excellency, In His rising to terrify the earth.

22 Cease for you from man, Whose breath [is] in his nostrils, For -- in what is he esteemed?
