Isaiah 44:1-28

Now hear this, Jacob my servant --- Israel my chosen!

The Lord who made you --- forming you from the womb and your help says, "Fear not, dear Jacob my servant, Jeshurun my chosen.

For I will quench a thirsty land, and create pools on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit and blessings upon your decedents.

They shall shoot up among the grass like willows by flowing streams.

One will say, ‘I am the Lord's,’ another will call on the name of Jacob, still another will print on his hand, ‘The Lord's,’ and name himself by the name of Israel.”

There exists no other God. [Again, this goes entirely against Mormon thought]

The Lord, the King of Israel and Israel's Redeemer, the Lord of hosts states emphatically: “I am the beginning and the ending. Other than me there exists no God.

If there exist another like Me? Let him proclaim his existence. Let him state his case and reveal it before me, since I founded an ancient people. Let them reveal what is to come, and happen.

Fear not! Have I not informed you long ago and declared it? And you are my witnesses! Is there a God besides me? There is no other Rock that I am ware.”

All who fabricate idols are worthless, and the things they delight making are of no importance. Their witnesses neither observe nor realize that they may be shamed.

Who designs a god or forms an idol that is worthless?

Realize that all his companions shall be shamed, and the craftsmen are only human. Let them all gather together and stand up. They shall be scared; they shall all be shamed together.

The ironsmith takes a cutting tool and works it over the coals. He fashions it with hammers and works it with his muscular arm. He get hungry, and his strength fails. If he doesn't have water he gets faint.

The carpenter stretches a line; he marks it out. He shapes it with planes and marks it with a compass. He carves it into the form of a beautiful man, to dwell in a house.

He cuts down cedars, a cypress or an oak and lets it grow strong among the trees of the forest. He plants a cedar and the rain nourishes it.

Then it becomes fuel for a man. He takes a part of it and warms himself; he kindles a fire and bakes bread. Also he makes a god and worships it; he designs it an idol and genuflects before it.

Half of it he burns in the fire. Over that half he roasts meat to eat and is satisfied. Also he warms himself and says, “Boy, I am warm, I have seen the light!”

And with the rest of it he creates a god, his idol, and falls down to it and worships it. He prays to it and says, "Help me, for you are my god!”

Such men will hot hear, nor do they discern, for God has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts, so that they cannot understand.

No one realizes, nor is there knowledge or discernment to say, “Half of it I burned in my fire; I also baked bread on its coals; I roasted meat and have eaten. And shall I carve what remains into an abomination? Shall I worship a block of wood?”

He feeds on ashes; a deluded heart has led him down the wrong path, and he cannot deliver himself or reason, “What possible good is this?”

Remember these things, Dear Jacob, and Israel, for you are my servant. I established you ---you are my servant --- Dear Israel, you will not be forgotten by Me.

I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like a fog. Come back to me, for I have redeemed you.

Sing, high heavens, for the Lord did it. Shout, depths of the earth. Spring into singing, mountains, forest, and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, and will be glorified in Israel.

The Lord, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb says, “I am the Lord, who made everything. Alone I stretched out the heavens, and designed the earth by myself.

I frustrate the signs of liars and make fools of diviners, and turn away the wise and make their knowledge nonsense.

God confirms the word of His servant and fulfills the counsel of His messengers, who says of Jerusalem, ‘She shall be inhabited,’ and of the cities of Judah, ‘They shall be built, and I will raise up their ruins’

God says to the deep, ‘Be dry; I will dry up your rivers’;

God proclaims Cyrus is His shepherd, and he shall fulfill God's purpose’; saying of Jerusalem, ‘She shall be rebuilt, and of the temple, ‘Your foundation shall be laid.’”

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And now, hear, O Jacob, My servant, And Israel, whom I have fixed on:

2 Thus said Jehovah, thy Maker, and thy Former, From the womb He doth help thee; Fear not, my servant Jacob, And Jeshurun, whom I have fixed on.

3 For I pour waters on a thirsty one, And floods on a dry land, I pour My Spirit on thy seed, And My blessing on thine offspring.

4 And they have sprung up as among grass, As willows by streams of water.

5 This [one] saith, For Jehovah I [am], And this calleth [himself] by the name of Jacob, And this [one] writeth [with] his hand, `For Jehovah,' and by the name of Israel surnameth himself.

6 Thus said Jehovah, king of Israel, And his Redeemer, Jehovah of Hosts: `I [am] the first, and I the last, And besides Me there is no God.

7 And who as I, doth call and declare it, And arrange it for Me, Since My placing the people of antiquity, And things that are coming, And those that do come, declare they to them?

8 Fear not, nor be afraid, Have I not from that time caused thee to hear, and declared? And ye [are] My witnesses, Is there a God besides Me? yea, there is none, A Rock I have not known.

9 Framers of a graven image [are] all of them emptiness, And their desirable things do not profit, And their own witnesses they [are], They see not, nor know, that they may be ashamed.

10 Who hath formed a god, And a molten image poured out -- not profitable?

11 Lo, all his companions are ashamed, As to artizans -- they [are] of men, All of them gather together, they stand up, They fear, they are ashamed together.

12 He hath wrought iron [with] an axe, And hath wrought with coals, And with hammers doth form it, And doth work it by his powerful arm, Yea, he is hungry, and there is no power, He doth not drink water, and he is wearied.

13 He hath wrought [with] wood, He hath stretched out a rule, He doth mark it out with a line, He maketh it with carving tools, And with a compass he marketh it out, And maketh it according to the form of a man, According to the beauty of a man, To remain in the house.

14 Cutting down to himself cedars, He taketh also a cypress, and an oak, And he strengtheneth [it] for himself Among the trees of a forest, He hath planted an ash, and the shower doth nourish [it].

15 And it hath been for man to burn, And he taketh of them, and becometh warm, Yea, he kindleth [it], and hath baked bread, Yea, he maketh a god, and boweth himself, He hath made it a graven image, And he falleth down to it.

16 Half of it he hath burnt in the fire, By [this] half of it he eateth flesh, He roasteth a roasting, and is satisfied, Yea, he is warm, and saith: `Aha, I have become warm, I have enjoyed the light.

17 And its remnant for a god he hath made -- For his graven image, He falleth down to it, and worshippeth, And prayeth unto it, and he saith, `Deliver me, for my god thou [art].'

18 They have not known, nor do they understand, For He hath daubed their eyes from seeing, Their heart from acting wisely.

19 And none doth turn [it] back unto his heart, Nor hath knowledge nor understanding to say, `Half of it I have burned in the fire, Yea, also, I have baked bread over its coals, I roast flesh and I eat, And its remnant for an abomination I make, To the stock of a tree I fall down.'

20 Feeding on ashes, the heart is deceived, It hath turned him aside, And he delivereth not his soul, nor saith: `Is there not a lie in my right hand?'

21 Remember these, O Jacob, and Israel, For My servant thou [art], I formed thee, a servant to Me thou [art], O Israel, thou dost not forget Me.

22 I have blotted out, as [by] a thick cloud, Thy transgressions, And as [by] a cloud thy sins, Return unto Me, for I have redeemed thee.

23 Sing, O heavens, for Jehovah hath wrought, Shout, O lower parts of earth, Break forth, O mountains, with singing, Forest, and every tree in it, For Jehovah hath redeemed Jacob, And in Israel He doth beautify Himself.

24 Thus said Jehovah, thy redeemer, And thy framer from the womb: `I [am] Jehovah, doing all things, Stretching out the heavens by Myself, Spreading out the earth -- who [is] with Me?

25 Making void the tokens of devisers, And diviners it maketh mad, Turning the wise backward, And their knowledge it maketh foolish.

26 Confirming the word of His servant, The counsel of His messengers it perfecteth, Who is saying of Jerusalem, She is inhabited, And of cities of Judah, They shall be built, and her wastes I raise up,

27 Who is saying to the deep, Be dry, and thy rivers I cause to dry up,

28 Who is saying of Cyrus, My shepherd, And all my delight He doth perfect, So as to say of Jerusalem, Thou art built, And of the temple, Thou art founded.

Isaiah 45:1-25

The Lord said to Cyrus, His ordained, whose right hand God held—to overpower the nations before him and to weaken various monarchs, and offer free access:

"I will travel ahead of you and straighten out messy areas, break in gates of bronze and shatter iron bars.

And I will give you pagan treasures and hidden riches of secret vaults so that you may realize that I AM, the Lord, calls you by your name, is God of Israel.

For Jacob My servant’s sake and Israel My chosen one, I even call you by name. I named you, though you have not known Me.

I am the Lord and there exists no others. There is no God other than Me. I empower you, though you had no realization of Me,

This is so that they may realize from the east to the west --- there is no other besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no one else.

I create the light and darkness. I bring peace and formulate calamity. I, the Lord, do all these things.

Drip down, heavens, from above, and let the clouds bring showers of righteousness. Let the earth open up, let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together. I, the Lord, have created it.

Miser for him who struggles with his Maker, the broken remnant among the broken remnants of the earth! Shall the clay say to the potter, “What are you designing?” Or the thing you fabricate state, “He doesn't exist”?

Misery to him who says to his father, “What are you begetting?” Or to his mother, “What are you giving birth to?”

On this account the Lord, the Holy One of Israel and his Maker states, "Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons, and you shall hand over to Me the work of My hands.

I made the earth and created man on it. I stretched out the heavens, and I have ordained all their host.

I have raised him up in righteousness, and will provide directions. He shall build My city, and free My captives ---freely and without reward,

The Lord says: The products of Egypt and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans—men of stature— shall come to you, and you will own them; they shall come after you in chains they shall arrive.
They shall fall down before you. They shall beg to you, saying, “Surely God is with you, and there is no other God.”

Actually, You are a God who hides Yourself --- Dear God of Israel, Savior.

They shall be ashamed and also humiliated, every craftsmen making idols shall go away in confounded...

But Israel shall be saved by the Lord with eternal salvation. You will not be ashamed nor humiliated throughout eternity.

The Lord who created the heavens, formed the earth, made it, and who established it -- not create it in vain, but made it to be inhabited says: I am the Lord, there is no other anywhere.

I have not spoken secretly in some private place of the earth. I did not say to the descendants of Jacob, “Seek Me in a waste place." I, the Lord, speak righteousness. I declare only what is correct.

Gather yourselves together and come; you fugitives of the nations. They who set up carved images and pray to a god that cannot save have no knowledge.

Make your case. Take counsel together. Who has declared from ancient times if not the Lord? And there is no God besides other than Me ---- a righteous God and Savior. There is no other besides Me.

Turn to Me and be saved, everyone on earth. For I am God, and there exists no other one.

I have sworn by Myself, the word has gone in righteousness has already been stated and shall not be taken back, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall confess.

Surely, one shall say, “Only in the Lord are righteousness and power.” Men shall come to Him, and all who are angry at Him shall be ashamed.

In the Lord shall all the seed of Israel be justified and glory.

[Here GOD says again and again that there are no other gods. There have existed no other gods. There is only ONE GOD! Surely even Mormons should understand why they are seen as a cult.]

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Thus said Jehovah, To His anointed, to Cyrus, Whose right hand I have laid hold on, To subdue nations before him, Yea, loins of kings I loose, To open before him two-leaved doors, Yea, gates are not shut:

2 `I go before thee, and crooked places make straight, Two-leaved doors of brass I shiver, And bars of iron I cut asunder,

3 And have given to thee treasures of darkness, Even treasures of secret places, So that thou knowest that I, Jehovah, Who am calling on thy name -- [am] the God of Israel.

4 For the sake of my servant Jacob, And of Israel My chosen, I call also thee by thy name, I surname thee, And thou hast not known Me.

5 I [am] Jehovah, and there is none else, Except Me there is no God, I gird thee, and thou hast not known Me.

6 So that they know from the rising of the sun, And from the west, that there is none besides Me, I [am] Jehovah, and there is none else,

7 Forming light, and preparing darkness, Making peace, and preparing evil, I [am] Jehovah, doing all these things.'

8 Drop, ye heavens, from above, And clouds do cause righteousness to flow, Earth openeth, and they are fruitful, Salvation and righteousness spring up together, I, Jehovah, have prepared it.

9 Wo [to] him who is striving with his Former, (A potsherd with potsherds of the ground!) Doth clay say to its Framer, `What dost thou?' And thy work, `He hath no hands?'

10 Wo [to] him who is saying to a father, `What dost thou beget?' Or to a wife, `What dost thou bring forth?

11 Thus said Jehovah, The Holy One of Israel, and his Former: Ask Me of the things coming concerning My sons, Yea, concerning the work of My hands, ye command Me.'

12 I made earth, and man on it prepared, I -- My hands stretched out the heavens, And all their host I have commanded.

13 I have stirred him up in righteousness, And all his ways I make straight, He doth build My city, and My captivity doth send out, Not for price, nor for bribe, said Jehovah of Hosts.

14 Thus said Jehovah, `The labour of Egypt, And the merchandise of Cush, And of the Sebaim -- men of measure, Unto thee pass over, and thine they are, After thee they go, in fetters they pass over, And unto thee they bow themselves, Unto thee they pray: Only in thee [is] God, And there is none else, no [other] God.

15 Surely Thou [art] a God hiding Thyself, God of Israel -- Saviour!

16 They have been ashamed, And they have even blushed -- all of them, Together gone in confusion have those carving images.

17 Israel hath been saved in Jehovah, A salvation age-during! Ye are not ashamed nor confounded Unto the ages of eternity!

18 For thus said Jehovah, Creator of heaven, He is God, Former of earth, and its Maker, He established it -- not empty He prepared it, For inhabiting He formed it: `I [am] Jehovah, and there is none else.

19 Not in secret have I spoken, in a dark place of the earth, I have not said to the seed of Jacob, In vain seek ye Me, I [am] Jehovah, speaking righteousness, Declaring uprightness.

20 Be gathered, and come in, Come nigh together, ye escaped of the nations, They have not known, Who are lifting up the wood of their graven image, And praying unto a god [that] saveth not.

21 Declare ye, and bring near, Yea, they take counsel together, Who hath proclaimed this from of old? From that time hath declared it? Is it not I -- Jehovah? And there is no other god besides Me, A God righteous and saving, there is none save Me.

22 Turn to Me, and be saved, all ends of the earth, For I [am] God, and there is none else.

23 By Myself I have sworn, Gone out from my mouth in righteousness hath a word, And it turneth not back, That to Me, bow doth every knee, every tongue swear.

24 Only in Jehovah, said hath one, Have I righteousness and strength, Unto Him he cometh in, And ashamed are all those displeased with Him.

25 In Jehovah are all the seed of Israel justified, And they boast themselves.'

Isaiah 46:1-13

Bel and Nebo --- idols of Babylon, are being carted away!

Look here! The beasts tumble! The cart overturns! The gods are dumped out onto the ground! Is that the best that they have? If they cannot even save themselves from such a fall, how can they save their worshipers from Cyrus?

“Listen to me, any remnant of Israel; I have created you and cared for you since you were born.

I will be your God through all your lifetime, yes, even when your hair whitens with age. I made you and I will care for you. I will carry you along and be your Savior.

With what in all the Universe do I compare? Whom can you find who equals me?

Will you compare me with an idol designed in silver and with gold? They hire a goldsmith to use your money and fashion a god from it! Then they bow down and worship it!

They parade it around on their shoulders, and when they set it down, it sits there, for it cannot move! And when someone prays to it, there is no answer, for it cannot get him out of his trouble.

Don’t forget this, guilty ones.

And don’t forget the numerous times I literally explained what was going to happen in the future. For I am God—I only—and there is no other one.

Who else can tell you what will happen. All I reveal will happen, for I do whatever I wish.

I will call that voracious bird of prey from the east—that man Cyrus from far away. And he will arrive and do what I desire. I have said I would do it and I will.

Listen to me, you stubborn, evil men!

I am offering you my deliverance; not in the distant future, but at this moment! I am ready to save you, and I bring at Jerusalem salvation and glory to Israel.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Bowed down hath Bel, stooping is Nebo, Their idols have been for the beast and for cattle, Your burdens are loaded, a burden to the weary.

2 They have stooped, they have bowed together, They have not been able to deliver the burden, And themselves into captivity have gone.

3 Hearken unto Me, O house of Jacob, And all the remnant of Israel, Who are borne from the belly, Who are carried from the womb,

4 Even to old age I [am] He, and to grey hairs I carry, I made, and I bear, yea, I carry and deliver.

5 To whom do ye liken Me, and make equal? And compare Me, that we may be like?

6 -- They are pouring out gold from a bag, And silver on the beam they weigh, They hire a refiner, and he maketh it a god, They fall down, yea, they bow themselves.

7 They lift him up on the shoulder, They carry him, and cause him to rest in his place, And he standeth, from his place he moveth not, Yea, one crieth unto him, and he answereth not, From his adversity he saveth him not.

8 Remember this, and shew yourselves men, Turn [it] back, O transgressors, to the heart.

9 Remember former things of old, For I [am] Mighty, and there is none else, God -- and there is none like Me.

10 Declaring from the beginning the latter end, And from of old that which hath not been done, Saying, `My counsel doth stand, And all My delight I do.'

11 Calling from the east a ravenous bird, From a far land the man of My counsel, Yea, I have spoken, yea, I bring it in, I have formed [it], yea, I do it.

12 Hearken unto Me, ye mighty in heart, Who are far from righteousness.

13 I have brought near My righteousness, It is not far off, And My salvation -- it doth not tarry, And I have given in Zion salvation, To Israel My glory!

Isaiah 47:1-15

"Babylon, the unconquered --- sit in the dust. Your days of glory, pomp, and honor are over. Daughter of Chaldea, never again will you be the lovely princess, tender/delicate.

Take heavy millstones and grind the corn; remove your veil. Strip naked and expose yourself to public view in shame. I will take vengeance upon you and will not care.”

So says our Redeemer, who will save Israel from Babylon’s might. He is the Lord Almighty, the Holy One of Israel.

Sit in bleakness and silence, Babylon. Never again will you be called “The Queen of Kingdoms.”

I was angry with my people Israel and punished them a little by letting them fall into your hands, Babylon. However, you showed them no mercy. You have made even the feeble carry heavy burdens.

You thought your reign would last forever, worldly Queen Kingdom. You didn’t consider my people or think about the fate of those would harm them.

Such a hedonistic kingdom, living at ease, bragging as the greatest in the world—hear the sentence of my court for your sins. You say, “I alone am god! I’ll never be a widow; I’ll never lose my children.”

Well, those two things shall come on you in one moment --- fully in one day: widowhood and the loss of your children, despite all your witchcraft and incantations.

You felt secure in all your wickedness. “No one observes me,” so you've declared. Your own “wisdom” and “knowledge” have caused you to turn away from me and claim that you yourself are ME!.

That is why disaster shall catch you suddenly—so suddenly that you won’t know what happened. And there will be no atonement to cleanse away your sins.

Call out the demon hordes you’ve worshiped for years. Call on them to help you strike deep terror into many hearts again.

You have cartloads of advisors, astrologers and astronomers, who attempt to read for you what the future has in store.

But they are as useless as dried grass consumed by fire. They cannot even save themselves! You’ll get no help from them. Theirs is no hearth to sit beside to make you warm!

And all your childhood commercial acquaintances will slip off and disappear, unable to help.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Come down, and sit on the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, Sit on the earth, there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans, For no more do they cry to thee, `O tender and delicate one.'

2 Take millstones, and grind flour, Remove thy veil, draw up the skirt, Uncover the leg, pass over the floods.

3 Revealed is thy nakedness, yea, seen is thy reproach, Vengeance I take, and I meet not a man.

4 Our redeemer [is] Jehovah of Hosts, His name [is] the Holy One of Israel.

5 Sit silent, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans, For no more do they cry to thee, `Mistress of kingdoms.'

6 I have been wroth against My people, I have polluted Mine inheritance And I give them into thy hand, Thou hast not appointed for them mercies, On the aged thou hast made thy yoke very heavy,

7 And thou sayest, `To the age I am mistress,' While thou hast not laid these things to thy heart, Thou hast not remembered the latter end of it.

8 And now, hear this, O luxurious one, Who is sitting confidently -- Who is saying in her heart, `I [am], and none else, I sit not a widow, nor know bereavement.'

9 And come in to thee do these two things, In a moment, in one day, childlessness and widowhood, According to their perfection they have come upon thee, In the multitude of thy sorceries, In the exceeding might of thy charms.

10 And thou art confident in thy wickedness, Thou hast said, `There is none seeing me,' Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, It is turning thee back, And thou sayest in thy heart, `I [am], and none else.'

11 And come in on thee hath evil, Thou knowest not its rising, And fall on thee doth mischief, Thou art not able to pacify it, And come on thee suddenly doth desolation, Thou knowest not.

12 Stand, I pray thee, in thy charms, And in the multitude of thy sorceries, In which thou hast laboured from thy youth, It may be thou art able to profit, It may be thou dost terrify!

13 Thou hast been wearied in the multitude of thy counsels, Stand up, I pray thee, and save thee, Let the charmers of the heavens, Those looking on the stars, Those teaching concerning the months, From those things that come on thee!

14 Lo, they have been as stubble! Fire hath burned them, They deliver not themselves from the power of the flame, There is not a coal to warm them, a light to sit before it.

15 So have they been to thee with whom thou hast laboured, Thy merchants from thy youth, Each to his passage they have wandered, Thy saviour is not!

Isaiah 48:1-22

Now hear this, descendants of Jacob, called Israel from the linage of Judah, who swore in the name of the Lord, invoking the God of Israel— but not in truth or righteousness!

You label yourselves citizens of the holy city and claim to rely on the God of Israel (Lord Almighty)

I explained the former things long ago, my mouth announced them and made them known; Suddenly I acted, and they happened

I knew your stubborn nature. your immovable and hardheaded.

I explained to you these things ages ago. Before they happened I told you so. So that you could even imagine, that your idols of wood & metal brought them about.

You have heard all this before --- consider it all! Will you not admit this? Starting now, I will reveal to you new hidden things unknown to you.

They are revealed now, and not long ago. You have not heard of them before today. So you cannot say, "Oh yeah, we head all this."

You have neither heard nor understood; from ancient times your ears have not been open. I fully know how treacherous you are; you were rebellious from conception.

For my own name’s sake and my praise I delay my wrath, holding it back from you, so as not to wipe you out completely.

See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.

For my own sake (my own sake) I do this! How can I let myself be slandered? I will not hand my glory to another.

“Listen to me, Jacob, Israel, whom I have called: I am He; I am the beginning and the ending.

I laid the foundations of the earth, and expanded out the heavens; when I called, they came into existence together.

“Come together, all of you, and listen: Which idol foretold these things? The Lord’s selected arm will carry out His purpose against Babylon and the Babylonians.

I, have spoken. I have called him. I will bring him, and he will succeed in his mission.

“Come near me and hear this: “From the first announcement I have not spoken secretly; at the time it happens, I am there.”

And now the Sovereign Lord has sent him, enabled by His Spirit.

The Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says, “I am the Lord your God, teaching you what is best for you --- directing you which way you should go.

If only you paid attention to my commands. Peace would have been like a river --- wellbeing like ocean waves.

Your descendants would have been like the sand, your children like its numberless grains; their name would never be blotted out nor consumed from before me.”

Leave Babylon, run from the Babylonians! Proclaim this with joyous shouts. Shout this across the earth. Say that the Lord redeemed his servant Jacob.

They were not thirsty when they were led through the deserts. He made water flow for them from rock. He split the rock and water gushed out.

The Lord tells us that the wicked get no peace.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, Who are called by the name of Israel, And from the waters of Judah came out, Who are swearing by the name of Jehovah, And of the God of Israel make mention, Not in truth nor in righteousness.

2 For from the Holy City they have been called, And on the God of Israel been supported, Jehovah of Hosts [is] His name.

3 The former things from that time I declared, And from my mouth they have gone forth, And I proclaim them, Suddenly I have done, and it cometh.

4 From my knowing that thou art obstinate, And a sinew of iron thy neck, And thy forehead brass,

5 And I declare to thee from that time, Before it cometh I have caused thee to hear, Lest thou say, `Mine idol hath done them, And my graven image, And my molten image did command them.

6 Thou hast heard, see the whole of it, And ye, do ye not declare? I have caused thee to hear new things from this time, And things reserved that ye knew not.

7 Now they have been produced and not from that time, Yea, before the day, and thou hast not heard them, Lest thou say, `Lo, I have known them.'

8 Yea, thou hast not heard, Yea, thou hast not known, Yea, from that time not opened hath thine ear, For I have known thou dealest treacherously, And `Transgressor from the belly,' One is crying to thee.

9 For My name's sake I defer Mine anger, And My praise I restrain for thee, So as not to cut thee off.

10 Lo, I have refined thee, and not with silver, I have chosen thee in a furnace of affliction.

11 For My sake, for Mine own sake, I do [it], For how is it polluted? And Mine honour to another I give not.

12 Hearken to me, O Jacob, and Israel, My called one, I [am] He, I [am] first, and I [am] last;

13 Also, My hand hath founded earth, And My right hand stretched out the heavens, I am calling unto them, they stand together.

14 Be gathered all of you, and hear, Who among them did declare these things? Jehovah hath loved him, He doth His pleasure on Babylon, And His arm [is on] the Chaldeans.

15 I -- I have spoken, yea, I have called him, I have brought him in, And he hath made prosperous his way.

16 Come ye near unto me, hear this, Not from the beginning in secret spake I, From the time of its being, there [am] I, And now the Lord Jehovah hath sent me, and His Spirit.

17 Thus said Jehovah, thy redeemer, The Holy One of Israel, `I [am] Jehovah thy God, teaching thee to profit, Causing thee to tread in the way thou goest.

18 O that thou hadst attended to My commands, Then as a river is thy peace, And thy righteousness as billows of the sea,

19 And as sand is thy seed, And the offspring of thy bowels as its gravel, Not cut off nor destroyed his name before Me.

20 Go out from Babylon, flee from the Chaldeans, With a voice of singing declare, Cause ye this to be heard, Bring it forth unto the end of the earth, Say, Redeemed hath Jehovah His servant Jacob.

21 And they have not thirsted in waste places, He hath caused them to go on, Waters from a rock he hath caused to flow to them, Yea, he cleaveth a rock, and flow do waters.

22 There is no peace, said Jehovah, to the wicked!

Isaiah 49:1-26

Hear me, you islands. Now hear this, you distant nations: Before I was born the Lord called me; from my mother’s womb he spoke my name.

He made my mouth like a sharp sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me into a honed arrow and placed me in his quiver.

He said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will display my splendor.”

But I said, "I worked vainly; I have wasted my strength for nothing. Yet what is owed to me is in the Lord’s hand, and my reward is with my God.”

And now the Lord says—he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to return Jacob to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord. God has been my strength—

He says: “It is unimportant for you to be just My servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also establish you as a light for the Gentiles, that My salvation may reach across earth.”

This is what the Lord the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel says to him who was despised and despised by the nation, to the servant of rulers: “Kings will observe you and stand. Princes will see and bow, because of the Lord, being faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

This the Lord says: “In the time when you appreciate Me, I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you; I will preserve you and make you to be a covenant for the people, to restore the land and to reassign its bleak inheritances,

revealing to the captives, ‘Come out,’ and to those in darkness, ‘Be free!’

“They will eat along the roads and find pasture on every barren hill.

They will not be hungry or thirsty. The desert will not be hot. The sun will not scorch them. Having compassion on them He will guide them --- leading them beside springs.

I will turn all my mountains into roads, and my highways will be raised up.

Note, they will come from great distances—some from the north, some from the west, some from the region of Aswan.”

Shout for joy, heavens; rejoice, earth; burst into song, mountains! Because the Lord comforts His people and will have compassion on His afflicted ones.

But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken and forgotten me.”

“Can a mother forget the baby she's feeding and have no compassion on the child she birthed? Though she may --- I will not forget you!

See, I have carved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.

Your children hurry back, and those who reduced you to ruins leave you.

Gaze up and look about. All your children gather around you. As surely as I live,” declares the Lord, “you will wear them all as ornaments; you will put them on, like a bride.

“Though you were ruined and made desolate and your land wasted, now you will not be broad enough for your people, and those who devoured you will be far away.

Might children born during your bereavement say so you can hear, ‘This place is too small for us. We need more space to live in.’

Then you will say in your heart, ‘Who bore me these? I was lonely and empty; exiled and rejected. Who brought these up? I was left all alone, but these—where have they come from?’”

This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I will call to the nations, I will lift up my banner among the races. They will bring your sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their hips.

Kings will be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers. They will bow before you with their faces towards the ground; they will lick the dust from your feet. Then you will realize that I am the Lord; those who hope rests in me will not be disappointed.”

Can plunder be retrieved from warriors, or captives be rescued from savages?

But the Lord says: “Yes, captives will be taken from warriors, and plunder retrieved from the fierce; I will deal with those who deal with you, and your decedents I will save.

I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh, drunk on their own blood, as with wine. Then all mankind will realize that I, the Lord, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Hearken, O isles, unto me, And attend, O peoples, from afar, Jehovah from the womb hath called me, From the bowels of my mother He hath made mention of my name.

2 And he maketh my mouth as a sharp sword, In the shadow of His hand He hath hid me, And He maketh me for a clear arrow, In His quiver He hath hid me.

3 And He saith to me, `My servant Thou art, O Israel, In whom I beautify Myself.'

4 And I said, `For a vain thing I laboured, For emptiness and vanity my power I consumed, But my judgment [is] with Jehovah, And my wage with my God.

5 And now, said Jehovah, who is forming me from the belly for a servant to Him, To bring back Jacob unto Him, (Though Israel is not gathered, Yet I am honoured in the eyes of Jehovah, And my God hath been my strength.)

6 And He saith, `It hath been a light thing That thou art to Me for a servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And the preserved of Israel to bring back, And I have given thee for a light of nations, To be My salvation unto the end of the earth.'

7 Thus said Jehovah, Redeemer of Israel, His Holy One, To the despised in soul, To the abominated of a nation, To the servant of rulers: `Kings see, and have risen, princes, and worship, For the sake of Jehovah, who is faithful, The Holy of Israel, and He chooseth thee.'

8 Thus said Jehovah: `In a time of good pleasure I answered thee, And in a day of salvation I helped thee, And I keep thee, and give thee, For a covenant of the people, To establish the earth, To cause to inherit desolate inheritances.

9 To say to the bound, Go out, To those in darkness, Be uncovered. On the ways they feed, And in all high places is their pasture.

10 They do not hunger, nor thirst, Nor smite them doth mirage and sun, For He who is pitying them doth lead them, And by fountains of waters doth tend them.

11 And I have made all My mountains for a way, And My highways are lifted up.

12 Lo, these from afar come in, And lo, these from the north, and from the sea, And these from the land of Sinim.

13 Sing, O heavens, and joy, O earth, And break forth, O mountains, with singing, For comforted hath Jehovah His people, And His afflicted ones He doth pity.

14 And Zion saith, `Jehovah hath forsaken me, And my Lord hath forgotten me.'

15 Forget doth a woman her suckling, The loved one -- the son of her womb? Yea, these forget -- but I -- I forget not thee.

16 Lo, on the palms of the hand I have graven thee, Thy walls [are] before Me continually.

17 Hastened have those building thee, Those destroying thee, and laying thee waste, go out from thee.

18 Lift up round about thine eyes and see, All of them have been gathered, They have come to thee. I live, an affirmation of Jehovah! Surely all of them as an ornament thou puttest on, And thou bindest them on like a bride.

19 Because thy wastes, and thy desolate places, And the land of thy ruins, Surely now are straitened because of inhabitants, And far off have been those consuming thee.

20 Again do the sons of thy bereavement say in thine ears: `The place is too strait for me, Come nigh to me -- and I dwell.'

21 And thou hast said in thy heart: `Who hath begotten for me -- these? And I bereaved and gloomy, A captive, and turned aside, And these -- who hath nourished? Lo, I -- I was left by myself, these -- whence [are] they?

22 Thus said the Lord Jehovah: `Lo, I lift up unto nations My hand, And unto peoples I raise up Mine ensign, And they have brought thy sons in the bosom, And thy daughters on the shoulder are carried.

23 And kings have been thy nursing fathers, And their princesses thy nursing mothers; Face to the earth -- they bow down to thee, And the dust of thy feet they lick up, And thou hast known that I [am] Jehovah, That those expecting Me are not ashamed.

24 Is prey taken from the mighty? And the captive of the righteous delivered?

25 For thus said Jehovah: Even the captive of the mighty is taken, And the prey of the terrible is delivered, And with thy striver I strive, and thy sons I save.

26 And I have caused thine oppressors to eat their own flesh, And as new wine they drink their own blood, And known have all flesh that I, Jehovah, Thy saviour, and thy redeemer, [Am] the Mighty One of Jacob!'

Isaiah 50:1-11

The Lord says:
“Where is your mother's divorce certificate, applied to her release? Or --- to which of my creditors have I sold you? Contemplate! For your sinfulness you were sold, and for your transgressions your mother was sent away.

Why, when I arrived, was there no one. Why, when I called, was there no one to answer? Are my abilities impaired that they cannot redeem? Do have I lack power to deliver? Consider by my rebuke I dry up the sea, make the rivers a desert; their fish rot for lack of water and dry up.

I dressed the heavens in black and make sackcloth their covering.”

The Lord God has given me the tongue of the educated, that I may know how to encourage with a word him who is weary. Daily he awakens and perks up my ear to hear as those who are educated.

The Lord God has opened my ear, and I was not a rebel.

I gave my back to those who whip, and my cheeks to those who pull out beards. I didn't hide my face from disgrace and spitting.

But the Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I endure, and I understand that I shall not be put to shame.

He who vindicates me is near. Who will take me on? Let's stand united. Who is my adversary? Let him come.

Consider that the Lord God helps me. Who will call me guilty? Realize that all of them will waste away and die.

Who among you regards the Lord and obeys the voice of his servant? Let him walking in darkness without light trust in the name of the Lord and rely on God.

Behold, all you who start a fire, who equip yourselves with torches! Walk by the light of your own fire, and by the torches that you have kindled! Your abilities come by my hand. You shall die and then be tormented.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Thus said Jehovah: `Where [is] this -- the bill of your mother's divorce, Whom I sent away? Or to which of My creditors have I sold you? Lo, for your iniquities ye have been sold, And for your transgressions Hath your mother been sent away.

2 Wherefore have I come, and there is no one? I called, and there is none answering, Hath My hand been at all short of redemption? And is there not in me power to deliver? Lo, by My rebuke I dry up a sea, I make rivers a wilderness, Their fish stinketh, for there is no water, And dieth with thirst.

3 I clothe the heavens [with] blackness, And sackcloth I make their covering.

4 The Lord Jehovah hath given to me The tongue of taught ones, To know to aid the weary [by] a word, He waketh morning by morning, He waketh for me an ear to hear as taught ones.

5 The Lord Jehovah opened for me the ear, And I rebelled not -- backward I moved not.

6 My back I have given to those smiting, And my cheeks to those plucking out, My face I hid not from shame and spitting.

7 And the Lord Jehovah giveth help to me, Therefore I have not been ashamed, Therefore I have set my face as a flint, And I know that I am not ashamed.

8 Near [is] He who is justifying me, Who doth contend with me? We stand together, who [is] mine opponent? Let him come nigh unto me.

9 Lo, the Lord Jehovah giveth help to me, Who [is] he that declareth me wicked? Lo, all of them as a garment wear out, A moth doth eat them.

10 Who [is] among you, fearing Jehovah, Hearkening to the voice of His servant, That hath walked in dark places, And there is no brightness for him? Let him trust in the name of Jehovah, And lean upon his God.

11 Lo, all ye kindling a fire, girding on sparks, Walk ye in the light of your fire, And in the sparks ye have caused to burn, From my hand hath this been to you, In grief ye lie down!

Isaiah 51:1-23

Hear me, you pursuing righteousness and looking for the Lord:
Look to your ancestry and your local of origin.

Study Abraham, your forefather, and Sarah, who is the origin of your birth.
When I called him, he was but one man, and I blessed him and gave him many grandchildren.

The Lord will comfort Zion and will look with empathy on all her ruins; he will turn deserts into Eden, her wastelands like the Lord's garden. Joy and gladness will be found there, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

“Hear me, my people, my nation! Instruction comes from me. My justice will become a light to the nations.

My righteousness comes close quickly. My salvation is coming, and my arm will bring justice to the nations. Islands will look to me and wait in hope for my arm.

Lift your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth below. The heavens will vade away. The earth will get threadbare, and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will be eternal. My righteousness will not fail.

“Hear Me, you who understand what is correct. Anyone who takes my instruction to heart: Do not fear the disappointment of mortals or be terrified by their insults.

For they will soon be consumed like old rags. Worm will devour them like wool. But my righteousness is eternal. My salvation extends through every generations.”

Get up, arm of the Lord? Wrap yourself with power! Awake, as long ago. Was it not you who cut Rahab [the proud one] to pieces, who ran that monster through?

Was it not you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made a road across a deep sea so that the redeemed might cross?

Those the Lord has rescued will come back. They will enter Zion singing. Eternal joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will catch up to them. Sorrow and sighing will end.

“I am he who comforts you. Why would you that you fear mortals ---- humans who are but grass, that you forget the Lord your Creator.

He stretches out the heavens and who keep the earth regular. Don't live in constant terror daily because of the oppressor's wrath ----- whose bent on destruction. For where is the wrath of the oppressor?

The cowering prisoners will soon go free. They will not die in their dungeon nor lack nourishment.

I am named the Lord Almighty your God, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar.

I have given you things to say and shielded you with the shadow of my hand. I set the heavens in place, laid the foundations of the earth, and informs Zion, that they are my people.’”

Get motivated! Rise up, Jerusalem, having drunk from the hand of the Lord his wrath. You drank every last drop of a goblet that makes people stagger.

Among all the children she bore and raised there was none to guide her by the hand.

These multiple calamities have come upon you— whose to comfort you? Ruin and destruction, famine and sword --- who will console you?

Your children have fainted; they lie at every street corner, like antelope caught by a net. They are filled with the wrath of the Lord --- the rebuke of your God.

How hear this, you afflicted one, made drunk, but not with wine.

This is what your Sovereign Lord God says, who defends his people: “See, I have taken from your hand the cup that made you stagger; that goblet of my wrath, you will never drink again.

I will put that cup into the hands of your tormentors, who tell you,‘Fall prostrate that we may walk on you.’ You become as the ground, like a street to be walked on.”

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Hearken unto Me, ye pursuing righteousness, Seeking Jehovah, Look attentively unto the rock -- ye have been hewn, And unto the hole of the pit -- ye have been digged.

2 Look attentively unto Abraham your father, And unto Sarah -- she bringeth you forth, For -- one -- I have called him, And I bless him, and multiply him.

3 For Jehovah hath comforted Zion, He hath comforted all her wastes, And He setteth her wilderness as Eden, And her desert as a garden of Jehovah, Joy, yea, gladness is found in her, Confession, and the voice of song.

4 Attend unto Me, O My people, And, O My nation, unto Me give ear. For a law from Me goeth out, And My judgment to the light, Peoples I do cause to rest.

5 Near [is] My righteousness, Gone out hath My salvation and Mine arms, Peoples they judge, on Me isles do wait, Yea, on Mine arm they do wait with hope.

6 Lift ye up to the heavens your eyes, And look attentively unto the earth beneath, For the heavens as smoke have vanished, And the earth as a garment weareth out, And its inhabitants as gnats do die, And My salvation is to the age, And My righteousness is not broken.

7 Hearken unto Me, ye who know righteousness, A people, in whose heart [is] My law, Fear ye not the reproach of men, And for their reviling be not affrighted,

8 For as a garment eat them doth a moth, And as wool eat them doth a worm, And My righteousness is to the age, And My salvation to all generations.

9 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of Jehovah, Awake, as [in] days of old, generations of the ages, Art not Thou it that is hewing down Rahab, Piercing a dragon!

10 Art not Thou it that is drying up a sea, Waters of a great deep? That hath made deep places of a sea A way for the passing of the redeemed?

11 And the ransomed of Jehovah turn back, And they have come to Zion with singing, And joy age-during [is] on their head, Gladness and joy they attain, Fled away have sorrow and sighing,

12 I -- I [am] He -- your comforter, Who [art] thou -- and thou art afraid of man? he dieth! And of the son of man -- grass he is made!

13 And thou dost forget Jehovah thy maker, Who is stretching out the heavens, and founding earth, And thou dost fear continually all the day, Because of the fury of the oppressor, As he hath prepared to destroy. And where [is] the fury of the oppressor?

14 Hastened hath a wanderer to be loosed, And he doth not die at the pit, And his bread is not lacking.

15 And I [am] Jehovah thy God, Quieting the sea, when its billows roar, Jehovah of Hosts [is] His name.

16 And I put My words in thy mouth, And with the shadow of My hand have covered thee, To plant the heavens, and to found earth, And to say to Zion, `My people [art] thou.'

17 Stir thyself, stir thyself, rise, Jerusalem, Who hast drunk from the hand of Jehovah The cup of His fury, The goblet, the cup of trembling, thou hast drunk, Thou hast wrung out.

18 There is not a leader to her Out of all the sons she hath borne, And there is none laying hold on her hand Out of all the sons she hath nourished.

19 These two are meeting thee, who is moved for thee? Spoiling and destruction -- Famine and sword, who -- I comfort thee?

20 Thy sons have been wrapt up, they have lain down, At the head of all out places, as a wild ox [in] a net, They are full of the fury of Jehovah, The rebuke of Thy God.

21 Therefore, hear, I pray thee, this, O afflicted and drunken one, and not with wine,

22 Thus said thy Lord Jehovah, and thy God, He pleadeth [for] his people: `Lo, I have taken out of thy hand the cup of trembling, The goblet, the cup of My fury, Thou dost not add to drink it any more.

23 And I have put it into the hand of those afflicting thee, Who have said to thy soul, Bow down, and we pass over, And thou makest as the earth thy body, And as the street to those passing by.'

Isaiah 52:1-15

Get up Jerusalem, and cover yourselves with God's power. Put on your lovely clothing, Jerusalem, Holy City. Those who turn from God—will no longer enter your gates.

Climb from the dust, Jerusalem; take off the slave bands from your neck, O captive daughter of Zion.

The Lord says: When I sold you into exile, I asked no payment from your oppressors; now I can redeem you without payment!

My people were intimidated without cause by Egypt and Assyria, and I delivered them.

Now, what is this? asks the Lord. Why are my people captive again without excuse? Those who rule them shout in exultation, and my name is constantly blasphemed daily.

Therefore I will reveal my name to my people, and they shall know the power of that name. Finally they will recognize that it is I, yes, I, who calls them.

How beautiful on mountains are the feet of those who bring the happy news of peace and salvation, the tidings that Israel's God is in charge.

The watchmen shout, singing joyously, for right before their eyes they see the Lord God bring his people home again. Let the ruins of Jerusalem break into joyous song, for the Lord has comforted his people; he redeemed Jerusalem.

The Lord rolled up His sleeve before the eyes of all the nations; the ends of the earth shall note God's salvation.

Go now, leave your bonds and slavery. Put Babylon and all it represents behind you—it is unclean to you. You are the holy people of the Lord; purify yourselves, all you who carry home the Lord's vessels.

You shall not leave fast, running for your lives; for the Lord will go ahead of you, and he, the God of Israel, will protect your back.

See, my Servant shall prosper ---- being highly exalted.

Yet many shall be amazed when they see him. Even far-off foreign nations and their rulers; shall stand dumbfounded, speechless in his presence. For they shall see and understand what they had not been told before.

They shall see my Servant beaten and bloodied, so disfigured one would hardly recognize there. So shall he cleanse many nations.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Awake, awake, put on thy strength, O Zion, Put on the garments of thy beauty, Jerusalem -- the Holy City; For enter no more into thee again, Do the uncircumcised and unclean.

2 Shake thyself from dust, arise, sit, O Jerusalem, Bands of thy neck have loosed themselves, O captive, daughter of Zion.

3 For thus said Jehovah: `For nought ye have been sold, And not by money are ye redeemed.'

4 For thus said the Lord Jehovah: `To Egypt My people went down at first to sojourn there, And Asshur -- for nought he hath oppressed it.

5 And now, what -- to Me here, An affirmation of Jehovah, That taken is My people for nought? Its rulers cause howling, -- an affirmation of Jehovah, And continually all the day My name is despised.

6 Therefore doth My people know My name, Therefore, in that day, Surely I [am] He who is speaking, behold Me.'

7 How comely on the mountains, Have been the feet of one proclaiming tidings, Sounding peace, proclaiming good tidings, Sounding salvation, Saying to Zion, `Reigned hath thy God.'

8 The voice of thy watchmen! They have lifted up the voice, together they cry aloud, Because eye to eye they see, in Jehovah's turning back [to] Zion.

9 Break forth, sing together, O wastes of Jerusalem, For Jehovah hath comforted His people, He hath redeemed Jerusalem.

10 Jehovah hath made bare His holy arm Before the eyes of all the nations, And seen have all the ends of the earth, The salvation of our God.

11 Turn aside, turn aside, go out thence, The unclean touch not, go out from her midst, Be ye pure, who are bearing the weapons of Jehovah.

12 For not in haste do ye go out, Yea, with flight ye go not on, For going before you [is] Jehovah, And gathering you [is] the God of Israel!

13 Lo, My servant doth act wisely, He is high, and hath been lifted up, And hath been very high.

14 As astonished at thee have been many, (So marred by man his appearance, And his form by sons of men.)

15 So doth he sprinkle many nations. Concerning him kings shut their mouth, For that which was not recounted to them they have seen, And that which they had not heard they have understood!

Isaiah 53:1-12

Who'll believe our message and to whom has this arm of the Lord been revealed?

He matured before Him like a tender shoot, and as a root out of dry ground. He wasn't handsome or majestic that drew us towards Him. Nothing about His looks made us desire Him.

He was despised and rejected by humanity. This was a man who suffered, and was familiar with pain. Like one from whom people shun and turn away from. He was despised, and we considered Him inconsequential.

Absolutely He took upon Himself our pain and carried our suffering, Yet we considered Him punished by God, attacked by Him, and hurt.

He in fact was stabbed for our transgressions. He was injured for our sins. The punishment that brought to us peace was placed upon him, and by his wounding we are healed.

We all, like sheep, have gotten lost. Each of us has done whatever he wishes. And the Lord has placed on Him the sin of everyone.

He was enslaved and hurt, yet He remained silent. He was led like a lamb to slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent. He did not open his mouth.

By oppression and judgment he was lead away. Yet who of His day protested? He was removed from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people He was tortured.

He was given a grave among the wicked, and with the rich in death. Yet He was not violent, nor did He ever lie.

Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and make Him suffer, and though the Lord makes His life a sin offering, He will see seed and tarry
and the desire of the Lord will prosper in His hand.

After He has suffered, He will see the light of life and be content. Through knowledge of Him this righteous servant will justify many, and carry their iniquities.

Therefore I will place Him among the greatest, and He will divide the spoils with the strong, because He emptied His life all the way to death, and was counted as a transgressor. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for transgressors.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Who hath given credence to that which we heard? And the arm of Jehovah, On whom hath it been revealed?

2 Yea, he cometh up as a tender plant before Him, And as a root out of a dry land, He hath no form, nor honour, when we observe him, Nor appearance, when we desire him.

3 He is despised, and left of men, A man of pains, and acquainted with sickness, And as one hiding the face from us, He is despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely our sicknesses he hath borne, And our pains -- he hath carried them, And we -- we have esteemed him plagued, Smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 And he is pierced for our transgressions, Bruised for our iniquities, The chastisement of our peace [is] on him, And by his bruise there is healing to us.

6 All of us like sheep have wandered, Each to his own way we have turned, And Jehovah hath caused to meet on him, The punishment of us all.

7 It hath been exacted, and he hath answered, And he openeth not his mouth, As a lamb to the slaughter he is brought, And as a sheep before its shearers is dumb, And he openeth not his mouth.

8 By restraint and by judgment he hath been taken, And of his generation who doth meditate, That he hath been cut off from the land of the living? By the transgression of My people he is plagued,

9 And it appointeth with the wicked his grave, And with the rich [are] his high places, Because he hath done no violence, Nor [is] deceit in his mouth.

10 And Jehovah hath delighted to bruise him, He hath made him sick, If his soul doth make an offering for guilt, He seeth seed -- he prolongeth days, And the pleasure of Jehovah in his hand doth prosper.

11 Of the labour of his soul he seeth -- he is satisfied, Through his knowledge give righteousness Doth the righteous one, My servant, to many, And their iniquities he doth bear.

12 Therefore I give a portion to him among the many, And with the mighty he apportioneth spoil, Because that he exposed to death his soul, And with transgressors he was numbered, And he the sin of many hath borne, And for transgressors he intercedeth.
