Who dictates the "class list" for the Book of Moron? Don't tell me ... Mental Apologist.

You're right Lloyd. This thread is a joke, and the title of the thread is incorrect to boot. It isn't Skousen's intro to the Book of Mormon, it's Hardy's.

https://bookofmormoncentral.org/content ... liest-textA new addition to the library of world scripture is a relatively rare phenomenon. In every age there are individuals who claim revelations, some of which get committed to writing and eventually published, but very few of these texts come to be regarded by millions of believers as sacred and authoritative and then, through translations, gain readers and adherents beyond their culture of origin.
Regards,
MG
I agree with Royal. Few texts do get so regarded by millions. More so regard the Qur'an. So by this reasoning--one of a popularity contest--the Book of Mormon fails miserably in comparison to Qur'an. Does that mean the Qur'an is that much more true than the Book of Mormon? Is that Loyal's point? because that is the natural, logical consequence of what he's pointing out about the Book of Mormon.
How many LDS have even read the Book of Mormon front to back? I've known lifelong LDS passed age 60 that have readily admitted to not reading it?
As to some of Royal's other points, where does it leave the D&C on the scriptural totem pole since it is not in pseudipigrapha format? It is by far more of a blueprint for how the LDS church has operated and believed than what is found in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is more like window dressing for the current LDS church, which actually hinges much, much more on the obviously fraudulent BoAbr and the King Follett Sermon for the plan of salvation teachings and on the D&C for church structure and guidelines. The biggest contribution of the Book of Mormon to the modern LDS church is the word/name "Mormon". The rest of the Book of Mormon could be shit-canned by the LDS church and it would otherwise operate just as it has on the back of the BoAbr and D&C.

I have a question wrote:Also, i don't understand why you bolded some of it, please explain the point you are making?
mentalgymnast wrote:To emphasize the fact that the Book of Mormon finds itself in a very select group of scriptural texts. The Book of Mormon is no small thing in the world of religious texts/scriptures.
Like Sock Puppet, I'll grant that the Book of Mormon is no small thing in the world of religious texts. (Which doesn't mean it's a big deal, either.) I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

Re: Hardy's Introduction to Book of Mormon
It's not Royal Skousen who wrote this intro, it's Grant Hardy.

Cost of Book: $17.53

Cost of Book: 1 Cent

Notice the Rankings. You can't even give the Book of Mormon away for a penny and have it beat the Uriantia Book.

One of the reason for this may be due to how obvious the Book of Mormon is fiction to everyone else that they feel the need to defend it. You don't see this with most other sacred writing since they don't make claims so easily disproven. Even some of the crazy writings of Hubbard cannot really be proven incorrect. They are too subjective, while the Book of Mormon makes some very objective claims about reality that are obviously incorrect.
This is a very good point.
The sales guy who came to my door this past weekend did a LOT of talking to keep me from shutting the door in his face. Certainly doesn't mean that what he had to say was truth or a big deal. Not an exact comparison to what you are saying, but reminded me of that particular encounter. :-)
