"Rocks don't speak for themselves" is an unfortunate phrase to use in defense of a book produced by a rock actually 'speaking' for itself... (I have a Question, 5.15.15)

Yeah? Like what do you expect from a group that insists on a Limited Boardography Theory?

that was very, very good, moksha (a.k.a. The Boot.)
Ah, the Boot, an obvious reference to Italy the real and true land of the Book of Mormon as defined by our one and only DarthJ.

Shame on you folks!

We still love you and we'll visit on holidays and when we need to do our laundry. We hope you'll make the trip to visit us too.

Maybe I'll do that too - use another's name and give 'em hell.
I do find it odd, with how many people can't conceive of a middle way, that they are now founding another NOM which is all about the middle way. Why keep the name if you don't believe in the middle way? I'm just serious.

I've been pretty clear that I'm not really interested in participating at NOM, nor have I for quite a while now. I did register over there, under my "cwald" avatar by the way.
I am not a NOM, I don't claim to be a NOM, and I had nothing to do with founding the new NOM. Those who did start it were very open about their belief that a middle way type of support network needs to exist for those who are trapped have a refuge, so please don't confuse my comments with theirs. That is a very unfair thing to do..
...and there is no "middle way" in the Mormon church today. However, there is a very clear class hierarchy, and if one is interested or content on being a 2nd class Mormon or a lower class Mormon, I suppose they can do so and stay in the church and consider that a "middle way." I'm not okay with being a second class citizen in my own church. You cannot be a member in good standing, with a temple recommend and priesthood, with all the benefits and privileges that provides, and honestly follow a "middle way."
It doesn't exist today.

I just wanted to send a heartfelt thanks to you guys for letting us join you here on MD when our board disappeared. One of the good things to come out of this, for me, was discovering this board and learning from so many of you.
I hope some of you will join NOM and stop by there to visit and share your thoughts.

I'm sorry you thought I was addressing you. I quoted MayanElephant, but was addressing all who want to create and join a new NOM but also who claim that a NOM/middle way is impossible. I just don't get it.
Anyway, you make a good point about being a 2nd class citizen - but in my eyes I don't see it as less than - only in their eyes. It's like part of the series, Insurgents.... (Spoiler alert if you want to see it & haven't...)...for a long time, one group was so despised that they tried to do away with them because they wanted conformity - and they didn't conform. Eventually, it becomes known that the relative few who were non-conforming (& were able to think and approach things in multiple ways, not just one caste's way) - were those who the higher up people were really looking for and needed most.
I think a thread about Fowler's stages was a sticky on NOM. My impression of many people on this forum and myself to an extent is stage 4... skeptical, questioning everything etc. Stage 5 is really NOM... where you realize that you don't have to accept dogma as spoon fed to you, but you can take what inspires you on your own terms and not worry about the rest. http://www.psychologycharts.com/james-f ... faith.html
Aristotle, Buddhism and Taoism ideas embrace a type of middle way - moderation. As I mentioned a study found that those who were somewhat, but not overly involved religiously did best in regard to health. No matter what group you try to belong to - they will require you to submit to some of their ideologies to belong. For this reason, I'm a bit of a loner. I go to church when I want to, I go to other groups meetings when I want to - but I don't identify myself as really genuinely part of them. Yet, I appreciate hugs, smiles and small-talk - a sense of community - even if I know it's very conditional. I think most people even if they know I believe differently, if I'm nice to them and don't push my beliefs on them, they're fine.

Re: Calling Thayne, Can I Help With NOM?
Hi Everyone!
It's nice to see so many dear friends congregating in one place on the internet!
I had several outreaches inquiring about Thayne. Thayne and I parted ways almost four years ago so I am unsure of what was going through his mind about the board. Knowing him as well as I have, however, I doubt his actions were malicious in nature and I hope all is going well in his world.
He and I work for the same company and I saw him yesterday so I know he is alive and well and still ably employed. :)
I'm glad you guys got a new board up and running. We are over on Facebook if you prefer that format.
Big green hugs,
Froggie
