Re: Bible verse by verse
Ephesians 2:1-22
You used to be dead because of your sins and disobedient behavior.
You walked in worldly ways and obeyed the Ruler of the Powers of the Air, who is still at work among the disobedient.
Actually, we all once lived this way — we followed the passions of our old nature, obeyed the wishes of our old nature and our own thoughts. In our natural condition we were headed for God’s wrath, just like everyone else.
But God is so rich in mercy and loves us so intently
that, even when we were dead because of our acts of disobedience, he brought us to life along with the Messiah — it is by grace that you have been delivered.
In reality, God raised us up with Jesus the Messiah and seated us with Him in heaven,
in order to display into the distant future how infinitely rich is His grace, how great is his kindness toward us who are united with Jesus the Messiah.
For you have been delivered by grace through trusting, and even this is not your accomplishment but God’s gift.
You were not delivered by your own behavior; so no one should boast.
For we are of God’s making, created in union with Jesus the Messiah for a life of good actions already prepared by God for us to do.
Therefore, remember your former state: you Gentiles by birth — called the Uncircumcised by those who, merely because of an operation to their flesh, are called the Circumcised —
at that time had no Messiah. You were estranged from the national life of Israel. You were foreigners to the covenants embodying God’s promise. You were in this world without hope and godless.
But now, you who were once far off have been brought near through the shedding of the Messiah’s blood.
For He himself is our peace — He has made us both one and has broken down the wall which separated us
by destroying in His own body the animosity visited by the Law, with its commands set forth in the form of ordinances. He did this in order to create in union with Himself from the two groups a single new humanity and thus make peace,
and in order to reconcile to God both in a single body by being executed on the tree as a criminal and thus in Himself killing that animosity.
Also, when He arrived, He announced as Good News peace to you both far and close by
news that through Him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
So then, you are no longer foreigners and strangers. On the contrary, you are now fellow-citizens with God’s people and members of God’s family.
You have been built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, with the cornerstone being Jesus the Messiah Himself.
United with Him the whole building is held together, and it is growing into a holy temple in union with the Lord.
Yes, united with Him, you yourselves are being built together into a spiritual dwelling-place for God!
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 Also you -- being dead in the trespasses and the sins,
2 in which once ye did walk according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience,
3 among whom also we all did walk once in the desires of our flesh, doing the wishes of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath -- as also the others,
4 and God, being rich in kindness, because of His great love with which He loved us,
5 even being dead in the trespasses, did make us to live together with the Christ, (by grace ye are having been saved,)
6 and did raise [us] up together, and did seat [us] together in the heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus,
7 that He might show, in the ages that are coming, the exceeding riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus,
8 for by grace ye are having been saved, through faith, and this not of you -- of God the gift,
9 not of works, that no one may boast;
10 for of Him we are workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God did before prepare, that in them we may walk.
11 Wherefore, remember, that ye [were] once the nations in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that called Circumcision in the flesh made by hands,
12 that ye were at that time apart from Christ, having been alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope, and without God, in the world;
13 and now, in Christ Jesus, ye being once afar off became nigh in the blood of the Christ,
14 for he is our peace, who did make both one, and the middle wall of the enclosure did break down,
15 the enmity in his flesh, the law of the commands in ordinances having done away, that the two he might create in himself into one new man, making peace,
16 and might reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, having slain the enmity in it,
17 and having come, he did proclaim good news -- peace to you -- the far-off and the nigh,
18 because through him we have the access -- we both -- in one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Then, therefore, ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens of the saints, and of the household of God,
20 being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being chief corner-[stone],
21 in whom all the building fitly framed together doth increase to an holy sanctuary in the Lord,
22 in whom also ye are builded together, for a habitation of God in the Spirit.
You used to be dead because of your sins and disobedient behavior.

Ephesians 3:1-21
It is because of this that I, Paul, am a prisoner of Jesus the Messiah on behalf of you Gentiles.
Imagining you have heard of the work God in His grace has given me to do for your benefit,
and that it was through a revelation that this secret plan was made known to me. I have already written about it briefly,
and if you read what I have written, you can understand how I grasped this secret plan concerning the Messiah.
Formerly it was not revealed to mankind, as the Spirit is now revealing it to His apostles and prophets,
that united with the Messiah and through the Good Message the Gentiles were to be heirs too, a joint body and joint sharers with the Jews in God's promise.
I became a servant of this Good Message by God’s gracious gift, which He handed me through the operation of His power.
To me, the least important of all God’s holy people, was given this privilege of announcing to the Gentiles the Good Message of the Messiah’s unfathomable riches,
and of letting everyone see how this secret plan is going to work out. This plan, kept hidden for ages by God, the Creator of everything,
is for the rulers and authorities in heaven to fathom, through the existence of the Messianic Community, how many-sided God’s wisdom is.
This follows God’s age-old purpose, accomplished in Jesus the Messiah, our Lord.
United with Him, through His faithfulness, we have boldness and confidence when we approach God.
So I ask you not to be discouraged by the troubles I endure on your behalf — it's all for your glory.
For this reason, I fall on my knees before the Father,
from whom the entire family in heaven and on earth receives its character.
I pray that from the treasures of His glory He will empower you with inner strength by His Spirit, so that the Messiah may live in your hearts through your trusting. Also I pray that you will be rooted and founded in love,
so that you, with all God’s people, will be given power to understand the breadth, length, height and depth of the Messiah’s love,
yes, to know it, even though it is beyond all knowing, so that you will be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to Him who by His power working in us is able to do far beyond anything we can ask or dream,
to Him be glory in the Messianic Community and in Jesus the Messiah continuously forever. So be it!
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 For this cause, I Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you the nations,
2 if, indeed, ye did hear of the dispensation of the grace of God that was given to me in regard to you,
3 that by revelation He made known to me the secret, according as I wrote before in few [words] --
4 in regard to which ye are able, reading [it], to understand my knowledge in the secret of the Christ,
5 which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it was now revealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit --
6 that the nations be fellow-heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of His promise in the Christ, through the good news,
7 of which I became a ministrant, according to the gift of the grace of God that was given to me, according to the working of His power;
8 to me -- the less than the least of all the saints -- was given this grace, among the nations to proclaim good news -- the untraceable riches of the Christ,
9 and to cause all to see what [is] the fellowship of the secret that hath been hid from the ages in God, who the all things did create by Jesus Christ,
10 that there might be made known now to the principalities and the authorities in the heavenly [places], through the assembly, the manifold wisdom of God,
11 according to a purpose of the ages, which He made in Christ Jesus our Lord,
12 in whom we have the freedom and the access in confidence through the faith of him,
13 wherefore, I ask [you] not to faint in my tribulations for you, which is your glory.
14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 of whom the whole family in the heavens and on earth is named,
16 that He may give to you, according to the riches of His glory, with might to be strengthened through His Spirit, in regard to the inner man,
17 that the Christ may dwell through the faith in your hearts, in love having been rooted and founded,
18 that ye may be in strength to comprehend, with all the saints, what [is] the breadth, and length, and depth, and height,
19 to know also the love of the Christ that is exceeding the knowledge, that ye may be filled -- to all the fulness of God;
20 and to Him who is able above all things to do exceeding abundantly what we ask or think, according to the power that is working in us,
21 to Him [is] the glory in the assembly in Christ Jesus, to all the generations of the age of the ages. Amen.

Re: Bible verse by verse
Ephesians 4:1-32
Therefore I, the prisoner united with the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called.
Always remain humble, gentle and patient, putting up with one another in love,
and making every effort to preserve the unity the Spirit provides through the binding power of peace.
There is one body and one Spirit, just as when you were called you were called to one hope.
And there is one Lord, trust, immersion,
and one God, the Father of all, who rules over all, works through all and is in all.
Each one of us, however, has been given grace to be measured by the Messiah’s bounty.
This is why it says, “After He ascended to the heights, He led captivity captive and he gave gifts to mankind.”
Now this phrase, “He ascended,” what can it mean if not that He first ventured down into the earth's deeper parts?
The one who descended is Himself the one who also ascended, far above all of heaven, in order to fill all things.
Additionally, He made some people apostles, some prophets, some proclaimers of the Good Message, and some as shepherds and teachers.
Their task is to equip God’s people for the work of service that builds the body of the Messiah,
until we all arrive at the unity implied by trusting and knowing the Son of God, at full manhood, at the standard of maturity established by the Messiah’s perfection.
We will then no longer be infants tossed about by the waves and blown along by various teaching, at the mercy of people clever in devising deceitful ways.
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in every respect grow up into Him who is the head, the Messiah.
Under His control, the whole body is being fitted and held together by the support of every joint, with each part working to fulfill its function. This is how the body grows and builds itself up in love.
So I say this — absolutely, united with the Lord I insist on it: do not live any longer as the pagans live, with their pointless ways of thinking.
Their intelligence has been shrouded in darkness, and they are separated from the life of God, because of the ignorance in them, which in turn comes from resisting God’s will.
They have lost all regard, so they have abandoned themselves to sensuality, practicing any imaginable impurity and always greedy for more.
But this is not the lesson you learned from the Messiah!
If you really listened to Him and were instructed about him, then you learned that since what is in Jesus is truth,
then, so far as your former way of life is concerned, you must strip off your old nature, because your old nature is thoroughly decayed by its deceptive desires;
and you must allow your spirits and minds to being renewed,
and clothe yourselves with the new nature created to be godly, which expresses itself in the righteousness and holiness that springs from truth.
Therefore, eliminating falsehood, let everyone speak truthfully with his neighbor, because we are intimately related to each other as parts of a body.
Be angry, but don’t sin — don’t let the sun go down before you have dealt with the cause of your anger;
otherwise you create space for Satan.
The thief must stop stealing; instead, he should make an honest living by his own efforts. This way he will be able to share with the needy.
Let no harmful language come from your mouth, only good words that are helpful in meeting the need, words that will benefit those who hear them.
Don’t cause grief to God’s Holy Spirit, for He has labelled you his property until the day of final redemption.
Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, violent assertiveness and slander, along with all spitefulness.
Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted; and forgive each other, just as in the Messiah God has also forgiven you.
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 Call upon you, then, do I -- the prisoner of the Lord -- to walk worthily of the calling with which ye were called,
2 with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love,
3 being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of the peace;
4 one body and one Spirit, according as also ye were called in one hope of your calling;
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 one God and Father of all, who [is] over all, and through all, and in you all,
7 and to each one of you was given the grace, according to the measure of the gift of Christ,
8 wherefore, he saith, `Having gone up on high he led captive captivity, and gave gifts to men,' --
9 and that, he went up, what is it except that he also went down first to the lower parts of the earth?
10 he who went down is the same also who went up far above all the heavens, that He may fill all things --
11 and He gave some [as] apostles, and some [as] prophets, and some [as] proclaimers of good news, and some [as] shepherds and teachers,
12 unto the perfecting of the saints, for a work of ministration, for a building up of the body of the Christ,
13 till we may all come to the unity of the faith and of the recognition of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to a measure of stature of the fulness of the Christ,
14 that we may no more be babes, tossed and borne about by every wind of the teaching, in the sleight of men, in craftiness, unto the artifice of leading astray,
15 and, being true in love, we may increase to Him [in] all things, who is the head -- the Christ;
16 from whom the whole body, being fitly joined together and united, through the supply of every joint, according to the working in the measure of each single part, the increase of the body doth make for the building up of itself in love.
17 This, then, I say, and I testify in the Lord; ye are no more to walk, as also the other nations walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 being darkened in the understanding, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart,
19 who, having ceased to feel, themselves did give up to the lasciviousness, for the working of all uncleanness in greediness;
20 and ye did not so learn the Christ,
21 if so be ye did hear him, and in him were taught, as truth is in Jesus;
22 ye are to put off concerning the former behaviour the old man, that is corrupt according to the desires of the deceit,
23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
24 and to put on the new man, which, according to God, was created in righteousness and kindness of the truth.
25 Wherefore, putting away the lying, speak truth each with his neighbour, because we are members one of another;
26 be angry and do not sin; let not the sun go down upon your wrath,
27 neither give place to the devil;
28 whoso is stealing let him no more steal, but rather let him labour, working the thing that is good with the hands, that he may have to impart to him having need.
29 Let no corrupt word out of your mouth go forth, but what is good unto the needful building up, that it may give grace to the hearers;
30 and make not sorrowful the Holy Spirit of God, in which ye were sealed to a day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil-speaking, be put away from you, with all malice,
32 and become one to another kind, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, according as also God in Christ did forgive you.
Therefore I, the prisoner united with the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called.
Always remain humble, gentle and patient, putting up with one another in love,

14 that we may no more be babes, tossed and borne about by every wind of the teaching, in the sleight of men, in craftiness, unto the artifice of leading astray,
15 and, being true in love, we may increase to Him [in] all things, who is the head -- the Christ;
16 from whom the whole body, being fitly joined together and united, through the supply of every joint, according to the working in the measure of each single part, the increase of the body doth make for the building up of itself in love.
17 This, then, I say, and I testify in the Lord; ye are no more to walk, as also the other nations walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 being darkened in the understanding, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart,
19 who, having ceased to feel, themselves did give up to the lasciviousness, for the working of all uncleanness in greediness;
20 and ye did not so learn the Christ,
21 if so be ye did hear him, and in him were taught, as truth is in Jesus;
22 ye are to put off concerning the former behaviour the old man, that is corrupt according to the desires of the deceit,
23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
24 and to put on the new man, which, according to God, was created in righteousness and kindness of the truth.
25 Wherefore, putting away the lying, speak truth each with his neighbour, because we are members one of another;
26 be angry and do not sin; let not the sun go down upon your wrath,
27 neither give place to the devil;
28 whoso is stealing let him no more steal, but rather let him labour, working the thing that is good with the hands, that he may have to impart to him having need.
29 Let no corrupt word out of your mouth go forth, but what is good unto the needful building up, that it may give grace to the hearers;

Re: Bible verse by verse
Does anyone think Jesus can add new meaning to the scriptures, if not in words, then in deeds?

Re: Bible verse by verse
Ephesians 5:1-33
So imitate God, as his dear children;
and live a life of love, just as also the Messiah loved us, indeed, on our behalf gave Himself up as an offering --- slaughtered to God with a pleasing fragrance.
Among you there should not even be mentioned sexual immorality, or any kind of impurity, or greed; these are utterly inappropriate for God’s holy people.
Also out of place are obscenity and stupid talk or vulgar language; instead, you should be giving thanks.
For of this you can be sure: every sexually immoral, impure or greedy person — that is, every idol-worshiper — has no share in the Kingdom of the Messiah and of God.
Let no one deceive you with empty talk. It is because of such things that God’s judgment is coming on those who disobey Him.
So don’t become partners with them!
For you used to be darkness; but now, united with the Lord, you are light. Live like children of light,
for the fruit of the light is in every kind of goodness, rightness and truth —
try to determine what will please the Lord.
Have nothing to do with the deeds produced by darkness, but instead expose them,
for it is shameful even to discuss the things these people do in secret.
Everything exposed to the light is revealed clearly for what it really is,
since anything revealed is a light. This is why it says,
“Get up, sleepyhead! Arise from the dead, and the Messiah will shine on you!”
Therefore, pay careful attention to how you conduct your life — live wisely, not otherwise.
Use your time well, for these are evil days.
Don’t be foolish, but try to understand the Lord's will.
Don’t be a drunkard, because it makes you lose control. Instead, keep on being filled with the Spirit —
sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to each other; sing to the Lord and make music in your heart to Him;
always give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus the Messiah.
Submit to one another regarding the Messiah.
Wives should submit to their husbands as they do to the Lord;
because the husband is leads the wife, just as the Messiah, as head of the Messianic Community, is Himself the one keeping the body secure.
Just as the Messianic Community submits to the Messiah, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Concerning husbands, love your wives, just as the Messiah loved the Messianic Community, indeed, gave Himself up for it,
in order to set it apart for God, making it clean through immersion bathing, so to speak,
in order to present the Messianic Community to Himself as a bride to be proud of, without a spot, wrinkle or any such thing, but holy and without defect.
This is how husbands ought to love their wives — like their own bodies; for the man who loves his wife loves himself.
Why, no one ever despised his own flesh! On the contrary, he feeds it well and takes care of it, just as the Messiah does the Messianic Community,
since we are parts of His Body.
“Therefore a man will leave his father and mother and remain with his wife, and these 2 will become 1.”
There is profound truth hidden here, which I say regarding the Messiah and the Messianic Community.
However, the text also applies to each of you individually: let each man love his wife as he does himself, and that the wife respects her husband.
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 Become, then, followers of God, as children beloved,
2 and walk in love, as also the Christ did love us, and did give himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odour of a sweet smell,
3 and whoredom, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as becometh saints;
4 also filthiness, and foolish talking, or jesting, -- the things not fit -- but rather thanksgiving;
5 for this ye know, that every whoremonger, or unclean, or covetous person, who is an idolater, hath no inheritance in the reign of the Christ and God.
6 Let no one deceive you with vain words, for because of these things cometh the anger of God upon the sons of the disobedience,
7 become not, then, partakers with them,
8 for ye were once darkness, and now light in the Lord; as children of light walk ye,
9 for the fruit of the Spirit [is] in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth,
10 proving what is well-pleasing to the Lord,
11 and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of the darkness and rather even convict,
12 for the things in secret done by them it is a shame even to speak of,
13 and all the things reproved by the light are manifested, for everything that is manifested is light;
14 wherefore he saith, `Arouse thyself, thou who art sleeping, and arise out of the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.'
15 See, then, how exactly ye walk, not as unwise, but as wise,
16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil;
17 because of this become not fools, but -- understanding what [is] the will of the Lord,
18 and be not drunk with wine, in which is dissoluteness, but be filled in the Spirit,
19 speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
20 giving thanks always for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to the God and Father;
21 subjecting yourselves to one another in the fear of God.
22 The wives! to your own husbands subject yourselves, as to the Lord,
23 because the husband is head of the wife, as also the Christ [is] head of the assembly, and he is saviour of the body,
24 but even as the assembly is subject to Christ, so also [are] the wives to their own husbands in everything.
25 The husbands! love your own wives, as also the Christ did love the assembly, and did give himself for it,
26 that he might sanctify it, having cleansed [it] with the bathing of the water in the saying,
27 that he might present it to himself the assembly in glory, not having spot or wrinkle, or any of such things, but that it may be holy and unblemished;
28 so ought the husbands to love their own wives as their own bodies: he who is loving his own wife -- himself he doth love;
29 for no one ever his own flesh did hate, but doth nourish and cherish it, as also the Lord -- the assembly,
30 because members we are of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones;
31 `for this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and they shall be -- the two -- for one flesh;'
32 this secret is great, and I speak in regard to Christ and to the assembly;
33 but ye also, every one in particular -- let each his own wife so love as himself, and the wife -- that she may reverence the husband.
So imitate God, as his dear children;
and live a life of love, just as also the Messiah loved us, indeed, on our behalf gave Himself up as an offering --- slaughtered to God with a pleasing fragrance.

Matthew 19:4-6
Jesus answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”…

So why didn't Jesus have a woman? He spent all of his time with a bunch of unattached men. Paul didn't have a woman, either. I suspect they were both gay. You can't prove they weren't. So you have a bunch of hypocrites lecturing the rest of us about things they know nothing of. Situation normal.

Because Christ came to be a sacrifice and not to propagate. Unlike you, sex is not the only thing worth existing and dying for. Jesus knew what the men would face --- would you leave behind a wife and child and follow Christ? I didn't think so... so why would you wonder why Christ wouldn't enlist husbands and fathers? He certainly isn't heartless and uncaring!
